Government agencies are being urged to do more to stop post-separation economic abuse, as 90% of victims continue to experience abuse after leaving a violent relationship. The highest amount that can be put into poker machines in Victoria will be reduced from $1,000 to $100. Australia is facing an ecological and economic disaster due to an infestation of fire ants in South East Queensland. South Australian hotels have won awards for Hotel of the Year. Two court cases against Donald Trump will be dropped due to the policy of not prosecuting a sitting president. India dominated Australia in the first test match. The hosts won by 295 runs. And finally, the Empower Hour radio show is back for its 19th episode, featuring an interview with Paralympian Scooter Patterson. Good morning, I'm Laura Dubois. Government agencies are being urged to step up and do more to stop post-separation economic abuse. New data shows more than 90% of victim survivors continue to experience abuse after they leave a violent relationship and it can last for decades. Rebecca Glenn from the Centre for Women's Economic Safety says in some cases government services are enabling further abuse to occur. So we're calling for reform of a range of government agencies so that they can better anticipate, prevent and mitigate harm from perpetrators of economic abuse. Now we know that there are several inquiries underway. What we really want to see is that translate into action so that myGov, Centrelink, Child Support and the Tax Office are much harder for perpetrators to misuse to cause harm to victim survivors. The highest amount Victorian punters can put into poker machines at one time will be slashed from $1,000 to $100 under major gambling reforms. Gaming Minister Melissa Horne will introduce legislation to Parliament today which proposes the introduction of carded play on pokies, mandatory closing times at venues and slower spin rates for new pokies. The cards will give people access to information about their gambling and allow them to set limits. It comes after a survey of New South Wales residents found the vast majority were in support of reforms that prioritise harm minimisation. Australia could be on the verge of an ecological and economic disaster, Elissa Delft reports. That's the warning from the Invasive Species Council who say the country has just six months to contain a heavy infestation of fire ants which has sprung up in South East Queensland. With storm season around the corner, the super pest is only expected to spread with thousands of nests already established along the Logan River. The council says if we don't eradicate the ants soon it will be time to shift the conversation to learning how to live with them. They're considered one of the worst invasive species to reach Australia and it's believed they could cause more economic damage than cane toads, rabbits and feral cats combined. Authorities have been battling the bugs for over two decades but in recent years the spread has intensified with fears they could spread via floodwaters. Fire ants could cause six deaths and cost households $188 million every year. South Australian hotels have won both Regional and Metropolitan Hotel of the Year awards. More than 700 people attended the awards ceremony in Brisbane yesterday. The Clarenvale Hotel was named Regional Hotel of the Year while Adelaide's Aqaba Hotel won the Metropolitan Awards and the Northern Territory's Dundee Beach Tavern the remote category. Victoria's Kikon Group was named the Best Hotel Group Operator. Two court cases against US President-elect Donald Trump will be dropped due to the Department of Justice's policy not to prosecute a sitting president. The department had alleged Mr Trump conspired to defraud the US through his efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election and was also prosecuting him over his handling of classified documents. Prosecutors have asked for both cases to be discontinued. In a statement on Truth Social, Mr Trump criticised the money spent on the cases. Turning to sports, India has dominated Australia in the first test winning by 295 runs in Perth. Jasprit Bumrah was player of the match after taking eight wickets across two innings. Questions have been raised about Australia's batters particularly Steve Smith and Marnus Labershame. Captain Pat Cummins says he was disappointed by his team's performance. The second test will get underway in Adelaide later next week. Take the money and run. We'll stick around here anymore. Take the money and run. We'll stick around here anymore. My name is Joe. And as always, I am joined by everybody's favorite superstar DJ. It's DJ Jesse, everybody. You got that right Joe. Thank you everybody and welcome everybody to episode 19. That's right, episode 19. That is incredible. Nearly 20 episodes down now. DJ, how was your weekend? What did you get up to? Well, went to the Tanzaloon. Oh really? What did you do down there? Had a swim. Nice, nice. Who did you go and have a swim with? Karen. Karen, great. Yeah. Did she get in? Yeah. Did she go in as well? That's good. That's a real support worker there, isn't it? They actually get in and have a swim with you. Yeah, and I got blocked here. Oh no, from the lagoon, from the water? Yes. Oh no, you got swimmers here. Yeah, just like Peter Pix. Okay, Peter Pix has had it before as well. Oh no, how are you holding up with the swimmers here, man? It's going alright? Yeah. Fair enough. Alright, we didn't really hear much from you last week, did we? I mean, it's nice to catch up with you again and see what you've been up to because last week you didn't, you weren't really involved because we had Scooter on the episode, didn't we? Yeah. Scooter Patterson, come and join us. The Paralympian and Cairns local legend, Grant Scooter Patterson. And what an interview it was. I mean, man, he was so much fun. It was also super interesting getting to see how his mind works. You know, someone with an elite mindset to push himself so hard, get so far, all the while facing significant obstacles. Last week's interview is pretty much everything we would ever want to showcase here on the Power Hour. It's all about inspiring stories and empowerment from amazing people like Scooter Patterson. So Scooter, if you are listening, thank you so much for coming in. Our listeners clearly loved it too. We had some great feedback online. And thanks to Scooter, we now have reached over 100 followers on our Facebook page. Jesse, what do you think about that? Cool. Yeah. I mean, I'm elated with it. Unfortunately, we did offer the hundredth follower to come in and join us for a show like we promised a few weeks ago. But they're in the UK. So they said it's not a no, but it's not possible at the moment. But if they do ever come over to Australia, they would love to come and join us for a show. So yeah, that's the best we could do. They didn't decline, but they said maybe one day. If you missed the episode, it was a great episode. As always, you can listen back online at www.audio.com forward slash The Empower Hour. Give it a listen if you did miss it. My week last week ended terribly. I began feeling sick on Thursday morning. And by the end of the day, I was wiped out. And it took me a few days to start feeling normal again. I'm not quite sure what it was, but the first couple of days were terrible. And now I feel a bit better. I'm sure you can hear my voice and probably the shaky start of the show. I'm going to put that down to the sickness. Anyway, that's enough rambling from me for the moment. DJ Jesse, what have we got coming up first? We're going to start things off today with a power ballad from the year 2000. This is Creed with Arms Wide Open. Stay tuned in. It's a beauty. It's a beauty. It's a beauty. It's a beauty. It's a beauty. It's a beauty. It's a beauty. Down my face with arms wide open. Under the sky. Welcome to this place.
