Hello everyone and welcome back to the Play Action Podcast and today we have a jam-packed episode for you. This episode might even get to an hour and if it does, I have a great title name for this episode that you may or may not see in the episode description already. So, first we're going to kick us off with a mock draft, then we're going to get into some vital record predictions for the season and then we're going to finish it off with our breakdown of predictions for the Lions Chief NFL kickoff this Thursday night.
It's a kickoff extravaganza here at the Play Action Podcast. We're going to get our mock ready and get right into it. Kickoff! Kickoff! Alright, we are starting the mock draft here and we started it off with a bang. So, Ben has the third pick, I have the eighth pick, and Robbie has the last pick in the draft. I mean, that's not a bad pick. This is designed to be showing how the podcast works. Ben, he's in this draft, he has the third position.
So, number one was Jamar Chase. Interesting pick there. Followed by Justin Jefferson. Ben, at number three, took Christian McCaffrey. So, a nice start for his team. Then, CPU took Tyree Kill, Austin Eckler, Bijon Robinson, and Cooper Cup off the board. So now, I'm on the clock here. And this is an interesting spot because I think that Cooper Cup is going to be very good, obviously. So, he went right before me. I really wanted to take him in this draft, but I could not, unfortunately.
So, I think at this point, I'm going to take... Let's start it off with a running back. Let's kick it off with a running back. Saquon Barkley is my selection at number eight here. Great player, obviously. I think he's going to be very good. And so, given that, now we have Travis Kelsey, AJ Brown, and Nick Chubb off the board. And now it is Robby's turn. On the actual draft for our league, I made the mistake of not getting enough good running backs.
And I think Derek Henry might be a good use. I think he'll do good. Odd. Alright, are you going to take... Either him... Yeah, I think Derek Henry is who I'm going to go for first round pick. Alright, and you're still on the clock here. Derek Henry. Alright, that's two. Wide receivers, I, Lions fan that I am, did this in our draft, the real draft as well. Got Aminrah St. Brown very early. I don't want to let him fall into anyone else's hands.
I have immense faith in him. It is... This should be discussed, because in a draft, it really is... Aminrah St. Brown would not be there again when Robby picked at the 3-12. He wouldn't. So it's get your guy. The Lions took that strategy this year, and it probably could have panned out well for them. So it's literally just go get your guy. And Aminrah taken at the 2-1 by Robby. Followed by CeeDee Lamb, Josh Jacobs, and Stephon Diggs by the computer.
I'm back up on the clock. And here I could go running back, running back. I like Tony Pollard. I really haven't had any shares of him so far. I really like... would love to get him on my squad. But at this point, I think some of these receivers are too good to pass up. So for me, it's between Devontae Adams and Garrett Wilson. Upside with Wilson, safety with Adams. Gonna go shoot for the fences and take Garrett Wilson here.
I like it with the Jets. The computer took Patrick Mahomes, Tony Pollard, Jalen Waddle, and Devontae Adams. So Ben on the clock took Josh Allen. Picked very quickly. I mean, he's taking that QB strategy, and I like it. Computer then took Jonathan Taylor, Chris Olave, Travis Etienne, Mark Andrews. And Ben was back on the clock. He took T. Higgins, wide receiver for the Bengals. If you're not following, it's fine. We will give you a team check-in after the third round.
After Robbie takes his third pick. Followed by T. Higgins, by Ben, we have the computer taking Najee Harris, DK Metcalf, Devontae Smith, and Jameer Gibbs. I was going to take Jameer Gibbs, but he went there. And for me, this is an easy pick. I usually don't do this, because I don't like to do this. But based on who's available, I got to take Jalen Hurts. I mean, end of the third round, Robbie was going to take him, and wow, all the quarterbacks went after me.
We'll talk about that in a second, but I usually don't go early QB, but I did here. After me, Lamar Jackson, Ramondre Stevenson, and Joe Burrow go to where Robbie's on the clock with the 3-12. What you thinking? All of my picks are getting taken. I was going to go Jalen Hurts. Unlike Ryan, I like to get who I absolutely know I want on my team as early as possible. And in the real draft, that meant Josh Allen.
It's not unlike me, but... Well, it's not unlike you, but I got Josh Allen immediately in our draft. It was second round. It was second round. And I was going for Jalen Hurts. Ryan got him. Good play. I was thinking Ramondre Stevenson for running backs. Solid pick. Can't go wrong. At this point, there are... Brees Hall, I like him. I'm probably going to end up getting him. The QBs, I feel like, are going quick, though. With the QBs going quick, Justin Herbert may be a good play.
You might be able to get him on the turnaround. You can take two people. Yeah. I'm going to go Joe Mixon. Joe Mixon. All right. So before Robbie makes his next pick, here's our check-in. Ben has Christian McCaffrey, Josh Allen, and T. Higgins. I have Saquon Barkley, Garrett Wilson, and Jalen Hurts. Robbie has Derrick Henry, Aminrah St. Brown, and Joe Mixon. Robbie, you are on the clock with the 4-1. Glad I have the back-to-back picks because I know I can go grab.
Tough decision between some of these QBs, though. And you know what? I think Justin Herbert might as well. That's a good pick. I like getting the quarterback there. Yeah. I don't want to let him go. Again, it's that strategy. He won't get back to you, so why not? George Kittle, Debo Samuel, Aaron Jones go after Robbie. I am on the clock now. I'm going to take fourth round. I'm going to take a player I've loved this year, taking him almost everywhere.
He's my wide receiver, 12 in my rankings. Keenan Allen is the selection. Mr. Herbert's number one receiver. Now, after that, we see the computer take Brees Hall, Calvin Ridley, Amari Cooper, and Justin Fields. Ben is on the clock. Robbie's not liking one of those picks. I heard him over there. He wanted one of those guys to get back to him. I'm betting it's either Ridley or Cooper because Brees is hurt and he already has a quarterback.
Ben's on the clock. Actually, he just took Drake London with his pick. So, Drake London off the board in the fourth round. Interesting selection by Ben. Then we go Ken Walker, TJ Hawkinson, Damian Pierce, DJ Moore. Selected by the computer. I was really interested in taking DJ Moore in the fifth. Disappointed, he goes there. Ben takes J.K. Dobbins. Solid pick to get him a second running back. Then we see DeAndre Hopkins, Miles Sanders, Terry McLaurin, and Christian Watson off the board.
I'm on the clock. I like the look of Alexander Madison, obviously, at this spot. Never been a big believer in Madison, but I do like him here. I like some of the tight ends here. I'm not going to lie to you. Derrick Waller, Kyle Pitts, Dallas Goddard, I like them here. Couldn't wait around on tight end, though, because I grabbed Jalen Hurts already. You don't want that double stack of early players at those onesie positions. I think I'm going to actually take, for the first time all year, Alexander Madison.
He has guaranteed volume. Couldn't just get a lot of carries. He's got to get a nice player to be your second running back, and that's who I'm going to take. Cam Akers, Trevor Lawrence, DeAndre Swift off the board, and Robbie is now on the clock. I need a couple more wide receivers here. I feel good about my team so far. Looking at the wide receivers, I like a lot of them. There are some good receivers left on the board for sure.
I have a feeling Lockett's not a bad idea, Tyler Lockett. Good pick. I want him as a running back. You want him? Well, can't have him. Second pick for me, let me see here. I don't want to do two wide receivers back-to-back. James Conner's available. Might as well pick him up. He'll probably be one of the last running backs I get. I like my receivers so far. James Conner, the pick for Robbie. Then we get Jerry Judy, Kyle Pitts, Mike Williams off the board.
I wanted Kyle Pitts coming back, I'm not going to lie to you, but I'm very satisfied with who did get back to me. If you look at my tight end rankings, I wanted one of those tight ends. I really wanted one of those tight ends. Last year, hated the mid-round tight ends. This year, I love them. And if you look at my rankings, Darren Waller's my tight end four, love him this year, and he's going to be my pick.
Taking Darren Waller here at the 6'5". After that, another tight end, Dallas Goddard goes, followed by Javante Williams, Alvin Kamara, and Chris Godwin. Ben is on the clock here. Let's see who he'll take. And he took Mike Evans, the popular receiver for the Bucs here. Dalvin Cook and Brandon Ayuk rounded out the sixth round. Team check-in, Ben at quarterback Josh Allen, running backs McCaffrey and Dobbins. Receivers, T. Higgins, Drake London, and Mike Evans. For me, I have quarterback Jalen Hurts, running back Saquon Barkley.
Receivers, Garrett Wilson and Keenan Allen. Tight end, Darren Waller. Robbie, quarterback Justin Herbert, running backs Derrick Henry, Joe Mixon, James Conner. Wide receivers, Amon Roth, St. Brown, and Tyler Lockett. So, the other two players picked on the CPU, Christian Kirk and then Michael Pittman. Ben on the clock takes Evan Engram, the tight end for the Jaguars. Maybe a bit of a reach there, we'll have to see. Then the computer takes George Pickens, Isaiah Pacheco, Todd White, and Hollywood Brown.
I'm on the clock here, and this is an easy one for me. I'm not going to lie to you, easy pick. So, I think I'm going to take Jordan Addison here. Good player for us, or will be a good player for us. I like him on the Vikings. After that, the computer took Jackson Smith and Jig Bud, Jahan Dotson and Brandon Cook. Robbie's on the clock at the 7-12. I feel like it wouldn't hurt to get a couple more good wide receivers in before they all start going.
So, Deontay Johnson looked pretty good during the preseason. There's not a whole lot of great picks left for wide receivers, so I'm going to go take him. My second pick, tight ends are starting to go now. A solid one, one I might want to take, David Njoku, wouldn't hurt. Pat, oh, I haven't said his name in a long time. Oh, I haven't said his name in a long time. How do you, okay, how do you pronounce, how do you pronounce this? Pat Friermuth.
Friermuth, Friermuth? I wouldn't have guessed that as my first, that would have been my first attempt trying to pronounce that. But Pat Friermuth looks like he could do good. I just need a tight end. Yeah, looking around, I think he's my best bet here. So, took Deontay Johnson. Now I have Pat Friermuth. Yep. Robbie. David Montgomery, Cedarius, Tony, and James Cook go. Now I'm on the clock. I'm going to take Tate Flowers. Just going to take him.
Love the Ravens, obviously, but I think he could be a difference maker for us. Maybe a bit of a reach, maybe not. I don't really like any of the other players there. Khalil Herbert, David Njoku, A.J. Dillon, and Michael Thomas go. Ben is on the clock. For context, now, hang on, now we were just listening to the glee cover of Don't Stop Believin'. Very good cover, but yeah. Ben is up. Let's see who he takes. Oh, yeah, he took Antonio Gibson.
Interesting selection there. Not a terrible selection, though. Deshaun Watson, Dak Prescott, Quinton Johnson, Gabe Davis all go. Ben on the clock again. Takes a backup quarterback in Anthony Richardson. A little early, but a fundamental project. Tua Tagovailoa, Traylon Burks, Aaron Rodgers, Zach Charbonnet go next, and I'm on the clock. I mean, do you want one of these players here? Like, really bad? Okay. I don't think I'm going to take your guy. I mean, I don't think there's a chance.
There's one guy I really want coming back to me, but I'm going to take Brian Robinson here. Running back for the Commanders. Incredible player, really. He was able to come back from that gunshot wound from last year, and now, yeah, he got shot in the leg, and he played week one. So, yeah, I take him here. Jamal Williams, Cortland Sutton, Dalton Schultz go, and now Robbie is up. Where did that guy go? He literally just disappeared.
Maybe he was taken. He was probably taken. Who did you want, Robbie? I'm blanking on his name, but Commanders. Brian Robinson, the guy you took? No, it wasn't him. Jahan Dotson? Jahan, I just took Brian Rob, Antonio Gibson? He was taken by Ben. Yeah, he was, yeah, wait, no. Robbie just forgot Antonio Gibson was taken. No, no, no, I wasn't even going to hit him. I'm just going crazy. Anyway, don't worry about that. I'm just going crazy over here.
Don't worry about it. That was so weird. I was, like, watching somebody, and I was like, you better not take him, Ryan. And I don't think you took him, but now he's just gone. I'm probably just really stupid. I'm probably just really freaking stupid. Ignore that, listeners. Sorry about that. Looking at this. I feel like Kirk Cousins taking a backup QB. I mean, it's okay, Kirk. I would not take a backup QB. All right, team checkup.
My team, quarterback, Jalen Hurts, running back, Saquon Barkley, Alexander Madison and Brian Robinson. Wide receiver, Garrett Wilson, Keenan Allen, Jordan Addison, Zay Flowers. Tight end, Darren Waller. Ben's team, quarterback, Josh Allen and Anthony Richardson. Running back, Christian McCaffrey and J.K. Dobbins and Antonio Gibson. Wide receiver, T. Higgins, Drake London, Mike Evans. Tight end, Evan Ingram. By the way, this is a 1-2-B-2 running back, three wide receiver, one tight end, one flex with six match spots draft we're doing.
Probably should have mentioned that at the top. Robbie. Quarterbacks, Justin Herbert, Kirk Cousins. Running back, Derrick Henry, Joe Mixon and James Connor. Wide receiver, Amin Roth, St. Brown, Tyler Lockett, Deontay Johnson. Tight end, Pat Fryermuth. And Robbie has another pick here. I do. Despite that slight speed bump, it was the weirdest thing ever. Anyways, ignoring that, I'm going to take Samaje Perrine. Is that how you say his name? It's completely off. Samaje Perrine. If I was his fan, I wouldn't mind having him on my team.
I like the solid running backs. Yeah. He's a solid player. Samaje Perrine is now Team Robbie. Juju Smith-Schuster, Rashad Penny, OBJ. Go after that. So I'm on the clock, and I already know who I'm taking here. I mean, it's got to be Raheem Mostert, right? He's going to have a starting role. A-Chain's hurt. Jeff Wilson's hurt. Siobhan Ahmed's hurt. Raheem Mostert's the only guy left. I'm taking him in the 10th round, adding another running back to my squad.
After him goes Dalton Kincaid, Alan Lazard, Elijah Mitchell, and Elijah Moore. So two Elijahs back-to-back there. As Ben is now up, let's see who he takes. I'll bet you ten bucks it's Zeke. Nope, it's Sky Moore. I'm not giving you any money. Sky Moore taken by Ben. Then it's Ezekiel Elliott, Duvahn A-Chain, Rashad Bateman, and Cole Kmet. Ben took him because he's a chief, and we all know that. Ben on the clock. He'll probably take Jarek McKinnon because he's the highest on sleeper and he's a chief.
Or he might not. We'll have to see. Jarek McKinnon, I told you so. Then Damien Harris, Tank Bigsby, Adam Thielen, Tyler Algier. I'm back on the clock. I'm going to take a project player here. Jameson Williams. He's suspended right now, but I think he has a good shot at succeeding. The player I wanted coming back to me was just taken. Gino Smith, Daniel Jones were taken. But more importantly, Jalen Warren, a player who has been getting a lot of hype recently.
I really wanted him taken there. Robbie's on the clock. Who are you going to take? Looking around, I'm feeling a wide receiver. Weird pick, but maybe it's not a weird pick. Maybe I'm wrong. Tyler Boyd. He's the definition of mediocre. When I think of mediocre NFL player, I think of Tyler Boyd. At this point, the draft is back in the 11th round. It's fine. Do I go another wide receiver or is there not much left to do? I would say another wide receiver wouldn't be bad.
Who to pick, though? There's a receiver I'm targeting right now, coming back. Receiver I really want. I'm just looking for Ravens to try to see who it might be. No, I'm kidding. I have one of them, by the way. I say um so much. Rashad Rice. Rasheed Rice. It's my bad. I'm infamous for that on this show, just mispronouncing all these players' names. Rasheed Rice. You took the player I wanted, Rasheed Rice. I was targeting him.
After Rasheed Rice, Darnell Mooney, Chico Conquo, Romeo Dobbs are taken. I'm on the clock, taking Kendray Miller. Easy pick for me. It was between those two, and Raleigh made it easy for me. Kendray is my pick. He'll have a good role for the Saints. After that, Jared Goff, Tyler Higby, Brock Purdy, Sam Laporta go. Whoa, how old is Brock Purdy? He's like two, I would say. Yeah, he looks two. He is like two. So, Ben is on the clock.
No, Brock Purdy is early 20s, probably. I'm going to show you something about his little picture. He looks so young, that's crazy. Very young. He's a young lad. Ben is on the clock. Let's see who he takes. He is taking his time here. Ben takes Deuce Vaughn. Running back for the Cowboys. Then Jacoby Myers, Donta Foreman, Russell Wilson, Jalen Hyatt go. Deuce Vaughn, another running back for Ben. And then he takes Devin Singletary. After that, Greg Dolcich, Jonathan Mingo, who I wanted, Zay Jones, and Nico Collins go to the computer.
You used to call him Devin Singularity. That was a pretty funny time in your life. I'm taking Justin Ross. Maybe a bit of a reach, but there's two players I want in this draft. And Justin Ross to finish this draft. And Justin Ross is one of them. Taking him here in the 13th. Then Kenneth Gainwell, Kareem Hunt, Rashawn Johnson go. It's now Robbie's pick. I honestly don't really know who I want with these last two picks.
But I've got to go with somebody. I haven't gotten a running back in a while. There are not really many running backs left. Chubba Hubbard. He's a good player. He's fine. Who are you going to take here? Well, look in here. I may... Ooh, actually. Van Jefferson. Didn't see him at first. It keeps happening. And last pick to kick it off with me is my last pick. I think now I might go... Chubba Hubbard. I don't know.
There's not really many. I think I'm happy with my team. Happy with your team? He's a nice insurance back. He's kind of just there. Jeff Wilson, Marvin Mims, Luke Musgrave go. Makes it easy for me. I want a backup quarterback on my team. You don't need one. It's up to you. But I want that insurance. And I'm going to take Kenny Pickett here in the 14th round. Grab a player I really like. After that, Michael Gallup, Bryce Young, Gerald Everett, Tajay Spears go.
Ben's on the clock. He takes Tank Dell. Then the computer takes Clyde Edwards-Lair, Chase M. Hill. Finish out the draft. Our final teams. Quarterbacks for me. Jalen Hurts and Kenny Pickett. Running backs, Saquon Barkley, Alexander Madison, Brian Robinson, Raheem Mostert, Kendre Miller. Wide receivers, Garrett Wilson, Keenan Allen, Jordan Addison, Zae Flowers, Jamison Williams, and Justin Ross. Tight end, Darren Waller. Ben's team. Quarterbacks, Josh Allen and Anthony Richardson. Running backs, Trisha McCaffrey, J.K. Dobbins, Jarek McKinnon, Deuce Vaughn, Devin Singletary.
Wide receiver, T. Higgins, Drake London, Mike Evans, and Sky Moore, and then Tank Dell. Tight end, Evan Ingram. Robbie, with your team. Quarterback, Justin Herbert and Kirk Cousins. Running backs, Derek Henry, Joe Mixon, James Conner, Samaje P. Ryan, Chuba Hubbard. Wide receivers, Amon Roth, Tate Brown, Tyler Lockett, Deontay Johnson, and Tyler Boyd, Rishi Rice, Van Jefferson. Tight end, Pat Framjitz. And you guys in the reviews area for Apple Podcasts or Spotify can vote on which team you think was the best.
We're going to take a quick break, come back with some other stuff, including record predictions and our predictions for this kickoff Lions-Cheese game. Don't leave us, as this is our one-hour kickoff special. One-hour kickoff special. And we're back here on the PlayAction Podcast with my record predictions, my final predictions. I'm going to let you fly through these because we are on a bit of a time crunch. This might not quite get to an hour, but it will get very close.
It will be the longest episode yet, by far. For sure, for sure. Real quick, side note, not to take too long, but do you watch college, do you follow college very much? A little bit, yeah, I mainly just follow it around draft season. Yeah. Did you watch the Nebraska game? I did not, no. I'm so mad. It's every blessed game, every college game, Nebraska is doing good, and we all think they're going to win. And by the end, they just completely lose it and lose it at the last minute.
It's so annoying. I just had to get that out there. It's every single game. You haven't had a game yet. What? The Cornhuskers. In college. You haven't had a game? College football started? Yeah. You're not even a Nebraska fan. Yeah, I am. It's so random. Yes, I am. Hell, I am. A lot of my family is from Nebraska. That's the only college games that I watch. No chance, dude. You like the Broncos and the Lions. And? And the Chiefs.
And Nebraska. And Nebraska. It's so random. It's kind of random. What? No, but those are the only college games I watch, and every college game goes the same. They start off, nothing's really happening. We're like praying that they're going to do good. Oh, my gosh, they're getting touchdowns. They're starting to do good. We get our hopes up. We're like, oh, they've got this in the bag. It's literally third quarter. It's like 20 to nothing. And then at the last minute, they get cocky, and the rug gets swept from under them, and they lose the game, and it's really annoying, and I just had to get that out there.
Okay, moving on to the record predictions. Let's start with the AFC North. I predict the Ravens will win it at 13 and 4, then the Bengals at 10 and 7, or then the Steelers, I mean, at 10 and 7, then the Bengals at 10 and 7, finished with the Browns at 7 and 10. Thoughts on the AFC North? Yeah, yeah. Bold predictions in there. Didn't we already have a hot takes episode where we had, like, something like this? Yes, but what teams do you think come a little, maybe too high on, too low on? Bengals.
Bengals? You're too low, yeah. Too low? Okay, at 10 and 7? Sorry, I was like, Bengals. Bengals. Yeah, a little bit, but, I mean, I don't know. I feel like we've done this before. Yeah, no, you're pretty accurate, though. All right. Next up, AFC South. Jaguars, 11 and 5, win it, followed by the Texans at 9 and 8, the Titans at 7 and 10, and the Colts at 3 and 14. Robbie just got shell-shocked. He's confused by one of my predictions.
I just started listening towards, like, the very end. Wait, what did you go through? Jaguars, 11 and 5, Texans, 9 and 8, Titans, 7 and 10, and Colts, 3 and 14. Quite frankly, I just want to see the Jags get 11 and 5, and I think that could be accurate. All right, my Texans are my hot take. Do you agree with it, or do you disagree with it? I think you're wrong. I think your Texans are too high.
Okay. How much too high? I'd say something more like... I don't know. Probably, like, 6 games won. I don't know. Lower. You're just a little too high. Where did you get the 9 from? I just added them up game by game, and this is how they came out. So these are my final predictions. We already had a whole episode devoted to these predictions. We don't need to spend a ton of time on these here. AFC East, Jets, 13 and 4, Bills, 10 and 7, Patriots, 9 and 8, Dolphins, 9 and 8.
Hot takes there. There's a lot of them. I think, honestly, all four of the teams, except maybe the Dolphins, are really hot takes that they'll finish there. Even the Dolphins! They're all hot takes. What do you think about it? Okay. I wasn't thinking about the Dolphins. I'd say... I'm thinking, personally, Bills are too high. I mean, it's a take. The Bills are very, very low in my predictions, compared to the consensus. Robbie's just out on the Bills this year, even though he loves Josh Allen.
Why are you out on the Bills? Um... Just a feeling. Well, I don't know. I mean, I could be dead wrong, but partially it is kind of just a feeling. I mean, as you said... Thinking the window's closing, like all the other... As you said last week, I think it was, or last episode, it's a new age for the NFL. Things are changing. I think that could apply to the Bills. You could be dead on. You probably will be, but I don't know, I wouldn't bet on them being super, super great.
I wouldn't say 10-7's a bad prediction, though. Okay. Now in the AFC West. Have the Chiefs winning it at 11-6, no real surprise. Chargers 10-7, Raiders 6-11, Broncos 3-14. I already know what prediction Robby disagrees with. Broncos 3-14. He has them winning the AFC West. Thinks they'll be much, much higher than that. Robby, give me some reasoning. Um... Well, they don't really have any bad players. Well, no, that's not true. Every team has some not-so-great players.
But... I don't think they're a super weak team. Depends on what you think of Russell Wilson. I think he could definitely bounce back. Um... Yeah. Of course, slight bias, I am a Broncos fan. Not as big of a fan as a Lions fan, though. Um... Yeah, I... I think 3-14's too low for them. Uh... Well, I'd say of the three teams that I'm biggest fan of, Lions, Broncos, and Chiefs. Lions is number one. Then, probably just Broncos and then Chiefs.
I just like the Chiefs, because a lot of my family's from there. But, um... Be your own man, Robby. Starting this episode, you are going to choose one of those three teams to roll with from now on. The other two, the other two you're sacrificing forever. You will never love them ever again. Choose it now. Lions. Lions! He hates the Broncos and the Chiefs. Least favorite teams in the NFL. He hopes they all die. Um, so...
Sure. That being said, though, I think your Broncos is too low. 3-14. I would put them much higher. Maybe not much higher, but not 3-14. Yeah. Um... NFC North. Lions winning it at 10-7. Then Bears at 9-8. Then Vikings at 8-9. Packers at 8-9. Um... So... The Lions, obviously, you can talk as much as you want about the Lions. I'll let you handle the Lions. Why do you think... I know you agree with me on them winning their division.
So, why do you think that? I think they could even go higher. I just think they have a really good setup for this season. They really showed how good they were starting to become at the end of last season. I could just... I think they could go all day. They could... I keep saying I hope they make it. A Super Bowl for the Lions would be really nice, but, um... I don't know about that, but... I don't know.
I mean, I think you're right with them winning. I would even put them at maybe 11-12 games, but... 11 at least for me. I just think they have a really good setup for this year. Okay. Um... So, in that case, um... I guess... Yeah, that's some good arguments. Um... NFC South. I've got the, um... Hawkins winning it at 9-8, Bucs in second at 9-8, then the Panthers at 7-10, then the Saints at 2-15. Big hot take there.
Do you disagree with any of these? I'm just more curious why you put the Saints so low. I mean... That's a good question. I'm out on Derek Carr. That's what it comes down to. Not a Derek Carr believer. Not a Derek Carr fan. Never have been. Never, um... will be. Um... So... Like, I just really thought he wasn't a great player in, um... with the Raiders. He had one good season in which he unfortunately broke his leg at the end of it.
But, um... Since then, he's just not been that great of a player. Got the Raiders to the wild card like one year. I mean... They lost in that round to the Bengals who eventually went on to the Super Bowl. So, um... Not a fan of Derek Carr on the Raiders. Not a fan of Derek Carr on the Saints. And their roster around him is just weaker. So, that's why. East. Remember my hot take. Commanders winning it at 11-6.
Then the Eagles at 11-6. Then the Cowboys at 8-9. Giants rounded out at 6-11. Lot of hot takes in here. Which one do you want me to explain? Um... So, you have Eagles and Commanders as the same. Yes. But you say Commanders are gonna win? Yes. What pushes them over the Eagles? Tiebreaker. They sweep... or not sweep the Eagles. They probably split. I think I have them splitting with the Eagles. They win games that the Eagles, uh...
They beat teams that maybe the Eagles lost to. I know you do not like my Cowboys take. I can tell. So, because everyone hates my Cowboys take. So, let me just explain that to the listeners right now. Cowboys... They didn't really get much better this offseason. They looked very bad last year, I think. Just barely squeaked by in the wildcard. Lost in the Divisional. So, um... Not a fan of the Cowboys, obviously. So, what it comes down to for me is...
Um... They gained Stephon Gilmore, who I think is kind of washed at this point. They gained Brandon Cooks, who is... He's fine. He's a good receiver. But he's not as good as Amari Cooper was. So, um... What it comes down to it... Not a fan of the Cowboys this year. I'm not a... I've always been more of a Dak Truther compared to the rest of the world right now, but still not a huge Dak guy. And they'll miss Zeke more than they think.
So, um... NFC West we're moving to now. Yeah. So, hang on, hang on, hang on. NFC West. 49ers, 12-5. Seahawks, 10-7. Rams, 9-8. Cardinals, 1-16. What's your reaction at all about that division? Well, everyone kind of thinks the Cardinals will be around 1-16, so I guess you have a hot take that they'll be better than that without their starting quarterback, who was injured with an ACL injury, and without, like, any good players. So, why do you think they'll be better than 1-16, Robby? Honestly, I don't.
I just... So they're your worst team on this whole thing? Yes. Yeah. I mean, that's fair. I just... Yeah, no, I could see that. I could see them maybe turning it around a little bit, um... fighting through their issues, but I don't really know who I'd put them above, thinking about it. Yeah. So, um... No other real hot takes about that division? No. Alright! So now, let's get to the seeding. The AFC seeding. One seed is the Jets.
Two seed is the Ravens. Three seed is the Jaguars. Four seed is the Chiefs. Five seed is the Steelers. Six seed is the Bills. Seven seed is the Bengals. Those are the seven teams that would make the playoffs. Outside of that, teams just barely missing. Chargers at 8, Patriots at 9, Dolphins at 10, Texans at 11. Teams that were kind of out of it this year. Browns at 12, Titans at 13, Raiders 14, Colts 15, and Broncos 16.
Thoughts on the AFC seeding? Who's really high for you? Who's really low for you? Uh, what do you think? Obviously, I know you think the Broncos are gonna really, uh, do way better than that last place in the AFC record. So, um, but besides that, what do you think? Um, so you think the Jags are gonna make it in three. I agree with you there. Um, of course, Ravens, number two, that's no surprise. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Um, no real surprises here. I'm just happy to see Jags. Yeah, that's true. I, well, I don't believe that the Broncos are gonna do amazingly. I just don't think that what was, I think they, well, yeah, they could win the West. They will win the West. They will win the West. Yeah, that's right. Um, what did you, what did you have them for? Four in the Broncos? Four? Yeah. Um, yeah. So, I think they have a higher chance of making it into the playoffs than you think.
I think they will make it into the playoffs, possibly, but not gonna do... I don't know. Honestly, I'm gonna stick with what I said. They're gonna win the AFC West, and definitely do better than you projected them, but besides the Broncos, which you probably guessed I would have a hot take about, I agree with you there. Moving to the NFC seating, um, we have, um, one 49ers, two Commanders, three Lions, four Falcons, five Eagles, six Seahawks, seven Bears.
Those teams make the playoffs. Just missing it. Eight Buccaneers, nine Rams, ten Cowboys, eleven Vikings, twelve Packers. Just not their year. Thirteen Panthers, fourteen Giants, fifteen Saints, sixteen Cardinals. So, what do you not like here? I don't not like anything. I'm just really happy the Lions are there. Um, yeah. I think the Lions... I've been going back and forth throughout these episodes, and if I want to say that they're gonna make it to the Super Bowl, obviously I'd like for them to, but I think they have a good chance at it, and I think they're gonna give it the...
they're gonna try really hard to get there. And they deserve it. Well, of course they're gonna try really hard to like it, of course, but I think they deserve to make it to the Super Bowl. Of course I think they deserve to win as well, but I'd agree with you here. And if you didn't have the Lions in the top seven, I would be very angry. Dang. Um, so, uh, um, now we're going to get into my playoff predictions.
Um, so, obviously, I have, um, I think that in the AFC, um, I have the two-seed in the wildcard round, two-seed Ravens hosting the seven-seed Bengals. I think they win... the Ravens win that one. Three-seed Jags hosting the six-seed Bills. I think the Jags win that one. Four-seed Chiefs hosting the five-seed Steelers. Great game. I think the Chiefs... Yeah, give me the Chiefs in that one. Close game, though. I really like the Steelers this year to play great.
Um, then, um, um, divisional round for the AFC. One-seed Jets host the four-seed Chiefs. Give me the Jets there. Two-seed Ravens host the three-seed Jaguars. Give me the Ravens. So, the AFC championship I have being Jets-Ravens. Give me the Ravens to move on to get to the Super Bowl. In the NFC, two-seed Commanders hosting the seven-seed Bears. Give me the Commanders. Three-seed Lions hosting the six-seed Seahawks. Um, close game. Give me the Lions in a tight one.
Four-seed Falcons hosting the five-seed Eagles. Give me the Eagles. Divisional, one-seed Niners hosting the five-seed Eagles. That'll be a game right there. Niners-Eagles. Um, give me the Niners in a close one. Two-seed Commanders hosting three-seed Lions. Give me the Commanders there. Um, so then, NFC championship, Niners-Commanders. Give me the Niners to squeak by. Commanders to fall just short with Sam Howell. Um, Super Bowl, Niners-Ravens. Give me the Ravens there. So those are my final predictions. Might sound a little biased with the Ravens.
That's okay. I can block out the haters. Um, the Ravens, they're gonna do great this year, man. Um, I've felt more, I have not felt this confident about the Ravens doing well since right after Lamar Jackson's MVP year. So, um, I'm really excited for Lamar Jackson, the Ravens. We're gonna take a quick break and then we'll get it back with the last segment of the day where we will be doing, of course, our predictions for the kickoff of Lions-Chiefs.
So our next episode will be next weekend after that game's already happened. So we're gonna get into it on this episode and then we'll wrap this thing up. Super excited, guys. And we're back here on the Play Action Podcast. Final segment before, actually, we have a brand new segment today. But before that, we have Lions-Chiefs predictions. Um, so, let's start with, uh, fantasy purposes. Jameer Gibbs is definitely a play. Patrick Mahomes is a play. Travis Kelsey's a play.
Amin Ra's a play. Those guys are in your lineup. Um, Jared Goff, very streamable in this game. I think it'll be a shootout. Other than that, I'd probably avoid the Lions. I'd play those three players. Amin Ra, Jameer Gibbs, Jared Goff. Chiefs, Mahomes and Kelsey, you play. If you want to take a dart throw on one of the receivers, you can. I wouldn't recommend it. The Checo, not a... I mean, the Lions aren't a great run defense.
You can play the Checo on this one. Moving forward on the fantasy aspect of this, my actual prediction is that the Lions will win this game. 35-34 in an incredible shootout win on a touchdown from Jared Goff to Jameer Gibbs on a route to win the game over the Chiefs. What are your thoughts on this one? Um, I think, of course, the Lions are going to win, but I don't think it's going to be 35-34 like you're saying.
I think it could be a bigger margin than that. Um, not even sure if it's going to be a super high scoring game. I could see it being closer to like I don't know 20-something to 14 or maybe like 30 or 40. I don't think it's going to be like neck and neck though, personally. Super Bowl champions versus the Lions. I don't know. I mean, it would be awesome, honestly, if it was like close. Um, I just can't see it really being first game of the season.
Yeah. Well, that's true. I don't know. I don't think it's going to be super, super, super close. What's your final score prediction and who's winning? Um, Lions are winning. I'm going to say 14-28. Alright, 20-14 win for the Lions. I have a 35-34 win for the Lions. So, somehow we both tipped the Lions over the defending Super Bowl champions. That's crazy. I'm surprised you did. That's crazy. I could be super, super far off. I do think the Lions are going to win one way or another.
And I like your prediction. I think it's interesting. Um. Next, we have a segment that is new and we're going to do it every week, every episode that is here. Robbie's Perfect Ironclad 100% Right Pronunciations. I'm going to give him some player names and we're going to give him three player names and he's going to have to pronounce them. Robbie's Perfect Ironclad 100% Right Pronunciations. I can't even pronounce that right. Um. First name. We're going to get into here.
Um. This player. I will tell you who it is after. But I can't give hints to Robbie. Um. Devon. Devon Achane. You were so close. It's Devon Achane. Devon Achane is his name. You were so close, dude. Oh, it's getting a little harder. We're doing another rookie running back. Okay. Zach. Good. Charbonnet. Zach Charbonnet. It's not Charbonnet. I was kind of being silly on the Char, but I thought Charbonnet. Okay. Um. Oh my god. This is going to be hilarious.
Last one. Oh, wow. That looks like someone dropped something on their keyboard. No offense to this guy, by the way. Chigozeme. Is that right? Is that right? You didn't really Aquanquo. Dude, that was way closer than I thought it was. It's Chigozeme Oquanquo. That was way closer than I thought it was. Chigozeme Oquanquo. He just threw a bunch of W's in there for no reason, but he was really close. Chigozeme Oquanquo. He often goes by Chig.
Chig Oquanquo. That was Robbie's perfect, ironclad, 100% right pronunciation to end the day. Didn't quite get to an hour. A little over 48 minutes at this point, but this was our one hour kickoff special. You'll love to see it. Yeah. I hope you guys enjoyed this one, and we'll see you in the next one. Have a good one. Bye.
