Social media has had a significant impact on football fans. Platforms like Twitter have given analysts and wannabe analysts the opportunity to share their opinions and criticize players in new ways. The shift in watching and consuming sports towards social media platforms has made it harder to enjoy the experience, as there are different reactions and people trying to prove their opinions. This has had a negative effect on players, as seen with Dele Alli who felt unjustly criticized and it affected his mental state. While social media has made the game more accessible, it has also created a space for negativity and trolling. Overall, it's a mixed bag. In this podcast I'll be briefly covering how social media affects football fans With platforms such as Twitter It gives a lot of analysts chances to speak about football These platforms allow a lot of wannabe analysts to Have their opinion on football Also allows them to criticize a lot of players in different ways that we haven't seen before John Buemma has explained that the patterns of watching and consuming sports especially football has changed to more social media platforms in recent times such as Twitter and Instagram used to get the highlights of the games and And it allows people to have different reactions to games Which I think makes it harder to enjoy the experience of consuming football on social media platform because you have all these different reactions to the games and Different people wanting to prove their opinion is right Which a lot of the time is not And obviously criticizing players and it has a big effect on the players on top of that with all of these Opinions and reactions are coming to light. It has proven that social media can have a negative impact on players An example of this is Dele Alli In an interview in 2023, Dele Alli stated that he has felt that fans were Criticizing him unjustly just for a couple of bad performances that really messed with his mental state and How he felt about playing football at a professional level. I think overall the addition of social media to football has been a good thing that makes the game more available to Worldwide everybody that wants to watch football, be a part of football, but also it has Created a bigger gap for people that want to criticize players, talk bad and troll players So it's a 50-50
