The USA provided supplies to Allied forces but didn't initially want to be involved in the war. Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japan in 1941, leading the USA to declare war. In 1942, the USA started a project to develop nuclear weapons led by Robert Oppenheimer. The first nuclear bomb was tested in 1945 and later dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Oppenheimer had mixed feelings about his role in creating the bomb and later faced accusations of espionage. He died in 1967. Hello to everyone. Welcome to the Holocaust from the Frontlines. Today we will talk about the famous attack on Pearl Harbor and the atomic bombs of Oppenheimer. Thank you for listening to this once again. With that said, we will begin. The USA used to give supplies to the Allied forces in the first part of the war. At first, USA didn't want to be part of the conflict, with the risk of the interference of such a big potential. On the 7th of December of 1941, the base of Pearl Harbor was the victim of a surprise attack by Japan. In the attack, more than 3,500 soldiers were killed or injured by Japan. After the attack, Roosevelt decided to declare the war to the Axis forces, joining the Allies' power. In 1942, during the war, USA started investigating about nuclear weapons. They decided to put the well-known Robert Oppenheimer as the leader of the project. The project was named Project Manhattan. This project would take part in Los Alamos, Nuevo Mexico. The date of the play was suggested by Oppenheimer. The objective was to create the first nuclear bomb. On the 16th of July of 1945, the first nuclear bomb of history was tested. This bomb used an implosion mechanism. The name of the test was Trinity. However, this came with a risk that Oppenheimer knew. The bomb is in an atomic chain reaction. In the chain reaction, when rungs would catch the atmosphere catching fire due to hydrogen instability. After that, Little Boy and Fat Man were launched in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On the 6th and 9th of August of 1945. On September 2, Japan surrendered to the power of the Allied forces. Oppenheimer had fear of what he did. He knew that he practically killed innocent people. The nuclear project opened the doors for more destructive weapons in the future. Oppenheimer totally knew that. He named himself the World Destroyer. He was emotionally horrified. Years later he was accused of espionage and betrayal. But later he was declared innocent. Oppenheimer died in 1967 due to cancer. Oppenheimer never said he regretted creating the nuclear bomb. Even he was horrified of his act.
