The podcast discusses whether it is possible for people to achieve true happiness in today's era, inspired by the documentary "Fake Famous" and the book "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck." It highlights how social media can easily fake happiness and suggests ways to overcome feelings of inadequacy and unhappiness caused by comparing oneself to others on social media, such as limiting social media time, focusing on real-life connections, and celebrating personal achievements. The hosts also discuss how certain social media platforms like TikTok can promote genuine happiness by showcasing real-life experiences. They emphasize the importance of embracing things within one's control and finding individual definitions of happiness. They conclude by expressing the joy derived from exercise, good relationships, and accountability, and the desire to spread happiness in the world. I'm Cruz Ridgway, and I'm Tate Hunter. This podcast is produced on April 13th 2023 in the Russell Library here at Georgia College. Welcome to our podcast today We're going to discuss the topic on if it's possible for people to achieve true happiness in an era in the era We live in today. This will be inspired by the documentary Fake Famous and the subtle art of not giving a fuck Happiness on social media is easily faked as we saw in the documentary Fake Famous We saw how easy it is for celebrities to fake everything from their locations to how many likes and comments they get Cruz, what advice would you give to someone who struggles with feeling inadequate or unhappy when comparing themselves to others on social media? I would say there's a couple ways you can do this. One way is to limit your time on social media Especially if it's making you feel worse about yourself. A great way to do this is to set a daily or weekly time limit for yourself Most of the time social media is showing you what you don't have or what what you don't look like Which makes you feel more upset with yourself and makes you want what you don't have Another way is to connect with others in real life rather than on social media Spend time with people you care about in real life This can help you feel more connected and supported and remind you of the things that truly matter unlike social media One more way you can do this is to focus on your own goals and accomplishments Take time to reflect on your own progress and achievements and celebrate your success This will be very beneficial in improving your own mental health and happiness as a whole Going off that are there any particular social media platforms or features that you do? Shit so going off that say are there any particular social media platforms or features that you believe are more Conductive to promoting genuine happiness and well-being Yeah, I feel like tik-tok is different than Instagram or snapchat per se because you can actually see into people's real lives and people actually post like workout routines and things of that nature that actually promote happiness and aren't just fake all the time Yeah, I totally agree. I feel like when I'm from on tik-tok I can see one video being informational or educational and the next can be just pure entertainment It's just like with everything else doing in moderation and not doing too much of it Yeah, and the subtle art of not giving a fuck I'm a remark Mason said that we need to embrace the things that we can control So yeah, like you said that can be controlling how much we're on tik-tok but it can also be getting exercise and like being in the gym or also making good healthy relationships and Just controlling things that you want to do and just having fun while doing it going off that say and going back to our main topic of Is it possible for someone to achieve true happiness in the area we live in today? That's such a tricky question But when you think about it and think about what you just said about having fun and if you figure out what brings you joy in life Then you could figure out your own happiness and everyone's happiness is different Everyone has a different definition for happiness yeah, like your happiness could be different than mine, but that could like totally change the way that our lives work out me and based on how You choose to be happy For some that's going to be sports. It could be relationships. It could be religion You just never know and for everyone it's going to be different and you just need to find that For some people that's the hardest part and many spend their whole lives trying to figure out what makes them happiest Now for you to say, what would you say makes you happiest in life probably right now It's just getting exercise and hanging out with all of y'all for me Y'all been a blessing in my life since I've been here at Georgia College It's been a solid group of friends that I like hanging out with and always there for me That's huge, dude I love to hear that and one huge thing that you said that I loved was accountability accountability can lead to so many great things in life if you can be there for people and can provide a Great surface that people can rely on You can bring them happiness for me, it's also a plus to know that through every season of my life my God is always there for me and Supporting me through it all but yeah when When you feel happy, I feel like you always want to make other people feel that way, too So Cruz, what are some ways that like you can make other people feel happiness For me. I would say if you find people where they're at in life, and you meet them there and Can help them to where they want to be? That that is huge for them if you can just be that person for them to help them reach their goals and aspirations That's huge And I feel like in today's world people are so quick to get angry and if we would focus on spreading happiness The world would just be such a better place Totally agree with that Cruz on that note. We're going to wrap up this podcast on happiness Tate and Cruz signing out
