The podcast discusses the AFC East quarterbacks - Josh Allen, Mac Jones, Tua Tagovailoa, and Zach Wilson. Josh Allen is currently the top-ranked quarterback but needs to work on reducing turnovers and playing smarter. Mac Jones has been struggling and needs better play-calling support. Tua Tagovailoa has been performing well but needs to make better decisions when throwing down the field. Zach Wilson has not lived up to expectations and may be let go if he doesn't improve. The Jets have potential with their young players but need Aaron Rodgers back to go further. Hey guys, it is Martha here with the TSA podcast and I have with me Ashley and Sam. How you guys doing today doing good I'm alright. How are you? I'm great. I'm great. So our topic today will be the AFC East quarterbacks we have in that Josh Allen to Matt Jones and Zach Wilson so Josh Allen is currently ranked the number one quarterback in In the league, so that's really good for him. I feel like they have lost a few games that were a little questionable like Barely beating the Giants a little insane but they overall have been doing pretty good and definitely will be playoffs contenders if they can find their way to I feel like run the ball more and for him to not throw as many kicks and they should be able to Actually make it far. Hopefully Last couple of seasons they have one like the first playoff game and then after that they're out and yeah, it was over little things So, um so far, he's had two thousand hundred sixty-five yards seventeen touchdowns and eight interceptions Um, I think if we implement him running the ball more Because of him turning the ball over a lot recently on that that should help and he already has a very solid receiver And I feel like a very it often itself is very solid Overall the team can do good as long as he corrects those little mistakes. Yeah, I mean Josh Allen He's um, always been one of the top quarterbacks in the league, you know, he's Got a great arm. He can throw the ball deep. He can throw intermediate really well But sometimes he gets a little greedy. He plays a lot of hero ball Tries to force things when they're not necessarily there and that kind of goes into their scheme Sean McDermott their head coach great offensive coach, but he doesn't run the ball a lot So as a quarterback when you're forced to pass a lot you're going to sometimes make stupid mistakes and You're going to take shots that you necessarily shouldn't take so that's one of Josh Allen's biggest things I'd say at the end is like he needs to pick work on he needs to Stop playing hero ball be a little bit more reserved with the ball and make smarter decisions I mean they have a great team. You got great receivers great weapons, you know, they got a new tight end on Kincaid Obviously Stephon Diggs one of the top receivers, but they need to definitely do some game planning Especially against the team the Bengals who they lost to in the playoffs last year Right. I feel like especially having like Diggs and stuff if they don't get it together and make it past like round one He's going to want to leave like he's going to want to get out of there So I mean Josh Allen also has another weapon in Gabe Davis his other receiver who's pretty remarkable I just feel like if they get that running game going I think they'll be a very complete team a deadly threat probably coming to the AFC playoffs in the future All right, probably the worst quarterback in the league More remarkably is Mac Jones. Mac Jones and Patriots. They have been off to a terrible start they currently are just Bomb of the league and nearly all their offense Mac Jones is having a pretty Terrible season so far. I mean he does have nine touchdowns eight interceptions, but I feel like he can really play better. He has had a few pick sixes few turnovers that have been costly I mean, I think their biggest thing two weeks ago was beating their Aces division rival the Bills and Josh. I mean that Jones played a pretty decent game He was 25 for 30 272 yards and two touchdowns and won the bills. I feel like that was a good boost for them But overall they really have to get it together. They don't have a number one receiver guy or anybody Yeah, I feel like his rookie year he did he was pretty solid But since then has been downhill and the expectations for him were pretty high, but he's not meeting those like at all So if yeah, I mean, I feel like they can try to grow with him and get him They really need to get some like outside help. That'll help It's not all just on him But if they don't get together like over the next couple seasons and that they should cut him or let him go But they also are should try to pick up like someone like Devante Adams I feel like that'll help with them. But if they can't then Can't move on from him. I Think one of Mac's biggest things that's affecting him is his play calling He has shown in the past that he gets frustrated with his play callers Bill Belichick obviously one of the greatest head coaches great defensive mind but he doesn't always choose the right offensive coordinator and that shows because Mac Jones gets visibly frustrated on the sidelines after Certain play calls. He wants to call something else. They can't agree. It kind of puts Mac in a bad spot And Mac also some people question coming out of the draft. Is he just an Alabama product Alabama always had great You know receiving talent and you know, you go to the Patriots. They didn't have the same guys and he doesn't perform There was also controversy people thought Bailey's happy backup quarterback in New England should have started over him They cut him brought him back So it really is a mind game to with Mac Jones because he doesn't know if he's gonna have a spot They're doing all these moves with other QB's and it would frustrate me if I was him. He's You know earned his spot, but he hasn't been able to keep it. So we're going to see how that goes So the next quarterback up kind of the complete opposite would be to a talk about lower dolphins, obviously Very polarizing team new head coach last season and Mike McDaniel young guy came from the Kyle Shannon entry Has very much helped to us he's done wonders for the kid two of this season so far through eight games He's first and passing yards with 2416 he's tied first and touchdowns with 18 is a hundred and eight point eight pass a rating first in the league Sixty seven point nine to be honest fifth in the league, you know all these great stats now he has thrown seven interceptions Which obviously isn't great through eight games. He's probably got to take that back a little he makes a lot of Kind of dumb decisions sometimes when throwing down the field. He obviously has two speed serves and Tiger kill on Jalen Waddle He always wants to get the ball deep down there, but sometimes he doesn't always make the right read specifically in a game against the Eagles he looked for Mostert on a outroute or an out and up, excuse me, and He just heave the ball down there and you can see Darius like just coming over Obviously made a play on the ball to it got picked off late in the game and it kind of was the nail in the coffin For that game, you know Dolphins went on to earn their second loss against a good Eagles team This week though. He had a great game against division rival the Patriots Did you went 30 for 45? 324 yards three touchdowns one pick with a hundred point six QB on this is the second time the Dolphins have played the Patriots this season to us now six and O versus Bill Belichick, which is huge Bill Belichick Obviously, you know Like I said great defensive coach but who has been able to find a way to win in all this time against Bill and I think that's very telling because a lot of people have struggled against guys like Bill Belichick and his defense and who has been able to get it done and I Think his future is very bright and he's got a really high ceiling right now And I think this upcoming week will definitely be a test. I Think for the Dolphins as well, like of course Damon Waddle Tyree kill obviously like the best dude on the league But I think mustard's also really good, but the injury Javon a chain the rookie kind of really held him I mean, he had five touchdowns and really going strong. I think once he comes back off of IR I think that the Dolphins will be fully complete and be one of the best of obviously maybe even go far in the playoffs All right, our last quarterback is Zach Wilson It's a very hot topic. I feel like in the MTS, especially when It was very unexpected for Aaron Rodgers to just be out for majority of the season They really weren't trying to rely on that Wilson, but that's what they had to do Um, I feel like when he was drafted the expectations for him were high But he was like the number two draft pick in his class and there definitely were I feel like the quarterback that were drafted in His class are performing better than him and have been We have like a Trevor Lawrence. They definitely have been doing better So Yeah, I feel like He's still learning But at the same time from him coming from college to the league It's been a gap there and he hasn't been able to perform the way he should and if they can't get it together with him Then they should let him go honestly, I Mean I still do the Jets credit even though I guess if Aaron Rodgers was in of course It's like a big what if they probably would be pretty far if I would be one of the top maybe an ASE But I think it's just credit I mean they did beat two big teams the Bills and the Eagles this season and they were very close with the Chiefs Obviously and Zach Wilson actually outperformed Patrick Holmes that game which was kind of absurd But at the end of the day, I mean the Jets really they do have a future I mean, they have a bunch of young guys and Garrett Wilson Breeze haul a bunch of people and I think they're gonna go pretty far in the future when Eric comes back home Yeah, I say what though they have a lot of weapons in our office like especially Garrett Wilson Like with that they have hope and that's why I feel like they've won a lot of games that I was like Whoa, like they weren't the one that like they did because they are a fighting team but honestly I see that as a filler and until Aaron Rodgers is back and if this is his Season to show that he can actually perform the way that they need him to or he's gonna get cut Yeah, I mean that coming into the league third overall pick or no second over excuse me Um, you know, he was drafted around some really big guys Trevor Lawrence one of the better quarterbacks in the AFC There was always a lot of questions around him. He played at BYU not one of the best schools His arm talent also like he has a big arm, but does he know how to use it? That was always one of the big questions and so far, you know He hasn't been able to perform in all the years. He's been in New York. I mean, he's gone through a head coaching change, which always Causes young quarterbacks to struggle and he's gone through a lot. You know, he hasn't always had the most talent around him Yeah, he has Garrett Wilson, but outside of that He doesn't have too many weapons last year Breeze Hall got hurt even Zach Wilson went through an injury last year where Mike White had to come in and Mike White won them Some games and then that kind of caused a little controversy in their locker room. People thought oh Is Mike White better than Zach should we you know, get rid of Zach and you know, Zach stayed and he sucked it out to be honest and Then though they go inside Aaron Rodgers. I mean that just has to be a killer to his mentality It's always great to you know, have a veteran quarterback one of the greats like Aaron Rodgers but as a young quarterback that's gotta hurt your confidence because They obviously see the and think that you can't perform and they bring in a new guy and then he gets hurt You're kind of thrown into the fire at that point You weren't expecting to play much or if at all this season and so far this season He's been alright five touchdowns five interceptions and probably what eight games which isn't great But he's still got a long way to go I think this year definitely is a proven year for him because if Aaron Rodgers comes back and Aaron Rodgers is looking healthy I think Zach Wilson's gonna have to find a new home and if he doesn't perform then no one's gonna want him He's going to be a free agent. So So now we're going to talk about probably the biggest matchup of the week not even being played in the USA Miami versus Kansas City, they're playing over in Germany. I believe it's Frankfurt or Berlin I'm not sure but it's going to be a big matchup Patrick Holmes obviously on the other side with the Chiefs One of if not the best quarterback in the league and a lot of people You know don't like to uh, they say you can't perform They say Tyreek is what makes him good and I think this game will be a very telling game if Miami can Find a way to beat the Chiefs who just lost to the Broncos who Miami put up 70 on I think that's big I think it kind of solidifies to as one of the top-tier quarterbacks and to Solidifies Miami is one of the top two teams Yeah, I agree I feel like especially from that embarrassing loss last week with Kansas City that they're definitely going to be on their a game this week and If they were to lose back-to-back and lose Miami, then that'd be telling for them So they have a lot of proof honestly, even though they are Super Bowl champions and all that But um, it'll be a very exciting game, especially since it's out of the country I feel like that'll help to like it'll really show like who which team is really like serious I feel like yeah, obviously the big headline Tyreek Hill going back against his old team for the first time It's going to be a really big matchup. He's been talking all week about it And I think he's got a really big game You know the Chiefs secondary hasn't always been the best And obviously the Chiefs, you know biggest weapon on the offense side is Travis Kelsey The Czechos also been coming up as well But I think it's a Patrick Holmes does he's been playing a lot of hero ball too as well So we're going to see how that matchup. It's gonna be a really good game I think this matchup also favors to it in a way the Chiefs secondary definitely Isn't as talented as Miami's and we all know that after losing Tyreek Hill Travis Kelsey's number one for Kansas City And he's going to be going up against some really good corners and defensive backs for Miami Jalen Randy just came back. It's a huge piece. We got to Sean Elliott Javon Holland, so that's my home is going to be in trouble, but you know, he is Super Bowl champion two-time. So he always finds a way and this week will be very interesting Okay, the game I only has a squad man Mm-hmm Okay, next team coming up I feel like this is going to be the next best game on the conference will be a build at the Bengals So that is Josh Allen versus Joe furrow Sunday night back This is going to be those looking for revenge from last season when they watch the playoffs at home against the Bengals Josh Allen Joe burrow probably Two of the best quarterbacks coming up one of the top five basically, you know The Bengals were very slow in the beginning of the season, but now they're coming back and cooking, you know, Jamar chase is coming T Higgins like they have a really good weapons and then of course Josh Allen and Stefan Diggs really wanna go at it with Joe burrow Yeah, I think it obviously big revenge game after getting knocked out in the playoffs at home by the Bengals It'll be very interesting there's been a lot of talking Tyler Boyd on the Bengals. He talks a lot of trash He's gonna he was talking on social media saying that he was going to Beat the bills this week and I think it'll be very interesting This matchup kind of does favor Josh Allen though In the offseason Bengals got rid of a lot of their defensive backs including Bondo one of their better safeties and Jesse Bates. So Obviously with weapons like Dave Davis and Stefan Diggs Duncan Cade all these guys Josh Allen will have a chance to you know, kind of re solidify himself as the top three top five QB He's just gonna have to you know, play smart no matter what Bengals are a big team and it'll probably turn into a shootout. So After we have the toilet bowl with the Patriots and the commanders I Mean honestly, this will be a very interesting game for both parties So the commanders just got rid of two of their best edge rushers Montez sweat and chase young So I kind of takes a little bit of pressure off of Matt Jones, you know He won't have to worry about these really big fast defensive ends coming at him So it'll kind of allow him to play hopefully a cleaner game from the pocket find his receivers, you know He's got some guys. He's got guys like Devante Parker juju all that but and the commander's defense is known to give up points You know this season. I don't think they they've had multiple games where they've given up over 30 So the Patriots do have an offense I can score they put up 29 against the Bills recently, so they have a lot of firepower and they have a good run game, too But both teams are just you know, not that good. I Think the biggest thing I think commanders they kind of got a little bit of edge Offensively slightly because their best receiver Terry McLaurin is probably gonna light up. I'll stop John Dawson as well But these are two young QBs going at it So I think it's gonna be very interesting in a way and it's gonna be maybe exciting. Maybe not. Who knows? Yeah, I think it'll be a game where Mac Jones can Show what he can do and hopefully Yeah, it'll definitely be an opportunity to kind of resolidify himself into that starting role prove to people that he can Be a QB one, especially for you know, a great organization like the New England Patriots But you know people lose their jobs all the time in the NFL and Bailey Zappi is not a bad backup and they're not Afraid to pull Mac Jones out and put him in and against a you know I'm not so good team out of conference. You need to win this game. You know, this isn't a game You can just drop so it'll definitely be big for Mac and the Patriots as well because they're trying to fight For one of those wildcard spots come in the end of the season. So there's a much-needed win for them And then the last game coming up we have is the chart the Chargers and Justin Herbert waste versus the Jets and Zach Wilson, so Um, the Chargers have been a pretty solid team this year Um, they've played some pretty good games and they've won some pretty good games They're not one of the best teams in the league But they definitely are a fighting team and then obviously the Jets, you know Zach Wilson has a lot of proves if he wants to keep his job So that'll be a good team and it's at home for the Jets So, yeah, I mean Chargers coming in. I think they have of course a little bit advantage better I mean, I've often I put on that side here now and But Justin Herbert, he's been he's been pretty decent this year Honestly, they've lost some games that they shouldn't know but at the end of the day I think that this is a game that Chargers should win but the Jets are going to come in there at home with all the energy and try to Beat the charge try get a game to win and the Jets did beat the Bills and the Eagles So they definitely are capable of taking out teams that they should have lost to Yeah, I mean the biggest thing for the Jets is their defense. They have a great amount of talent on their defense They got guys like Quincy Williams Quinton Williams And a couple of defensive ends that are really good as well. They have sauce Gardner DJ Reed So that'll prove difficult for Justin Herbert and the Chargers, you know Chargers have a great team on offense They got some guys over there Justin Herbert Honestly top five quarterback in the league maybe, you know great arm talent all that But their defense is not as good as people think, you know They got guys like Cleo Mack and Joey Bosa, but the Jets have a strong offensive line and if they can protect for Zach Wilson I think Zach Wilson can have a good game, but it'll all come down to what kind of decisions he makes Is he you know making the right reads? Is he throwing the open guys or is he gonna have one of those games where he's not really, you know on his game? You know, is he making stupid decisions? Is he holding the ball too long all that kind of stuff? It'll definitely be a big game for him and it'll be a big game for both You know these these kind of games have playoff implications despite not being in the same division But you know, they're both some of the lower teams in their division But if they win enough games in games like these they can sneak into a wild card slot So I think this kind of about wraps it up for us a lot of interesting matchups going into next week so I'm very excited this week. I mean these quarterbacks are going to have a We're gonna test the time for this a few of them. So it's gonna be exciting to watch.
