In my podcast, I am going to tell you about a young adult Christian fantasy romance series by D.E. Carlson. Empire of Ashen Song by D.E. Carlson is an ongoing series. The first book was published in September of 2023, and the second book was published on May 14, 2024. The first book in the series is called To Burn Fire. The book follows Iris and Baishan. Iris is thrown into the world her mother tried so hard to keep her from. She is told she must save the world. Baishan is the prince of the fire empire. He must figure out what he truly believes in. The world building and characters are a couple of things that make me love these books. D.E. Carlson knows how to write and how not to overwhelm the reader. The author introduces the world as Iris learns and experiences it for herself, making this an amazing book for current fantasy readers or beginner fantasy readers. To Burn the Court is the second book in the Empire of Ashen Song series. I had the opportunity to read this book before it was published as an ARC reader. To Burn the Court continues the story of Iris and Baishan. Iris has been tasked with finding and contacting Duke Romance. She doesn't know who he is. All she does know is what she was told. Look for a man no one sees. All while resisting the fire demon's temptations, Baishan is struggling with knowing what the truth is. Everything has been turned upside down and he is not sure what to think. But when a mysterious girl is announced to air instead of him, he takes this as his chance and finds the truth. He will do anything to keep it and share it, even if it means putting himself and the people he loves in danger. The world building continues in the book. The characters' development of Iris, Baishan, Alcindor, Cassandra, and the fire demon creates complex, lovable, and relatable characters. D.E. Carlson's writing will make it impossible for you to put this book down. The book has Christian elements, using a C.F. Lewis writing style to create a new world with faith representations. Both books in the series have been five stars for me. Empire of Ashen Song is a YA Christian series perfect for anyone who loves dragons, lovable and relatable characters, love triangles, and books with multiple points of views.
