LinkedIn is beta testing a video section on its platform, following in the footsteps of other big companies like Instagram and YouTube. This feature will allow professionals to share videos related to their careers, providing valuable learning opportunities and exposure to new career paths. However, there is a concern that this may lead to people simply showing off their successes rather than discussing their career journeys. LinkedIn is aware of this and aims to filter out such content to ensure a constructive and insightful video feed. The article emphasizes the importance of adapting to the evolving communication preferences of the next generation and sees this video trend as a significant step for career growth. Hello. My name is Seth Ali. This is for CIS 108. So I found an article on LinkedIn called LinkedIn Test Dedicated Video Feed. It's an article by the author Andrew Hutchinson talking about how LinkedIn currently has beta testing out for having a video section on their software. Other big companies have these and they want to follow suit to spread professions through video such as Instagram Reels or on YouTube they have like a video section. So in my career I am a groundskeeper and I've always found to have videos to watch and learn more about. The job in the field is a pretty neat thing and LinkedIn is all about connecting people in their career field. So the idea of being able to log on to LinkedIn and see videos and instruction on how to maybe take care of grass or if you have a disease in the grass how to better treat that is a huge, huge benefit. Aside from what I would get from it, this will create exposure to possibly new career paths for kids who are going to be going to college soon or kids in college who still do not know what they want to do or for people who may feel stuck in their current job and want to make a change they'll be able to scroll through and see what people do for a living and have a visual as to what someone else's job looks like and to see if they can see themselves doing that. A big concern that was addressed in the article was that the new future might be people just showing off their successes rather than actually talking about their career and how they got to where they are. But LinkedIn is aware of this and they are hopeful to be able to filter these out so that the video feed section is more constructive and gives good insight. Overall this article is well written and gives good insight into what LinkedIn is doing to grow how they connect professionals in the world. Like Hutchinson says in the article, as the next generation gets older and takes on the corporate world the way that we communicate is going to evolve in line with what they respond best to and in that sense aligning with the video trend is going to happen whether LinkedIn facilitates such or not. I could not agree with this more and this is the next step into being able to grow in my career and hopefully help others grow in their careers. Thank you for listening. Again this is Seth Ali CIS 108.
