If we desire to be God's Mouthpiece we will have to be trained by Him, Cleansed by Him and Filled by Him. This lesson deals with our mouth and our heart.
The main ideas from this information are: - Being a mature son of God means becoming His mouthpiece - Our mouths should be cleansed and touched by God - The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom and judgment - We should be careful with the words we speak and honor others - Our mouths should be filled with truth and the word of God - Speaking words of edification and blessing is important - We should not judge or accuse others - Our mouths should represent God and be used for His purposes - We need to surrender our mouths to God and be trained by the Holy Spirit. Friday, May the 5th, and we're together with some powerful men and women of God, just enjoying the Word of God. Last week we were talking about being. One of the privileges of being a son of God, a mature son, is to become His mouthpiece, to speak on His behalf, even as He will have attendants around Him, so does a father. An influential father would have sons around him, and the father does not have to get on top of his house and begin to holler loudly to all the neighbors, whatever his commandment or desire is. He simply will speak to one of his sons. I've been in Pastor Sylvester's house, and I know, Brother Emanuel, that your father can speak from any room in the house, and he'll say, M, M, and that's all he has to say. From somewhere comes Brother Emanuel, and says, Yes, Papa, what did you want? Is that right, Brother Emanuel? Yes, sir. I don't remember if he calls you M, M, or something like that, but when he calls you, what does he call you? He calls me by my Igbo name, which is Ugu Chukwu, or Ugu Boy. Ugu Boy. And so anywhere in the house, Brother Emanuel's ears are always tuned to hear the voice of his father, and I'm always surprised when I've been there with them, whether he calls one of the girls or one of the boys. Immediately, or very soon, that they're there, and they say, Yes, Papa, what is it? And I believe that this is a very beautiful picture of a son of God. And we answer, we say, Yes, Lord. Even as Samuel said, Speak, Lord, for your servant heareth. Even as Isaiah said, Here I am, send to me. The father was saying, Who should I send? Is there anyone, anyone out there? Anyone can hear me, because I need something done in this earth. And Isaiah said, Here I am, send to me. So this heart of the son, of a mature son, who has the same heart as his father, is easily sent and quickly understands the heart of the father. So we will be looking at a few verses, just simply about our mouth, about our tongues, and may the Holy Spirit speak to us today. Psalm 37, verse 30. Who's reading today, Brother David? Are you reading? And as a reminder, last week we talked about how the Lord had to cleanse the mouth. And each of these, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, even Daniel, and I think even Amos, talks about the cleansing. And you'll see that in the notes as I post it. Isaiah's mouth was touched with a cold from off of the altar. He said, I am a man with unclean lips, and I dwell among a people who are also unclean lips. Ezekiel was told to eat the scroll into his mouth. And in Jeremiah's story, the Lord reaches out himself and touches Jeremiah's lips and then put his words into his mouth. So many. Daniel, in Daniel 10, verse 16, he says, And behold, one like the similitude of the sons of men touched my lips, and then I opened my mouth, and I spake, and I said unto him that stood before me, O my Lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no strength. And he goes on to, Not until Daniel, not until one that looked like the son of man. Well, who is that? Who is it that looks like a son of man who is God? Oh, it's only Jesus. So in all of these cases that we looked at, we observed that it was very important that our mouths be cleansed, be touched, and such. I might say, I believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit, together with speaking in other tongues, is something that God would give to us as a gift. That is the touch of his Holy Spirit, even upon our mouth. And so such is my thinking connected to this. Brother David, do you have the verse ready then? Let's talk about the mouth of the righteous. Psalms 37, verse 13. The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh judgment. Judgment. In other versions, it says, speaks what is just. And another version, speaks what is correct, what is right, to make a right decision. The mouth of a righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaketh right judgments. How beautiful. So often it's difficult, as Solomon discovered, difficult to know wisdom. Two women came to Solomon, and they said, you know, she took my baby. Her baby died. She stole my baby. And Solomon, with wisdom, said, then let's divide this child in two. And each of you can have half of this child. Oh, many of the attendants around Solomon were shocked. But Solomon had wisdom, and he knew that the true mother would not allow her child to die. But the mother whose child had died would be satisfied that both children were dead because of jealousy. And the wisdom that was put in the mouth of Solomon was unlike any that has been said. Another verse. Let's go to Proverbs 10, verse 31. Free of deceit. Free of perversity. Proverbs 10, verse 31. Proverbs 10, verse 31. And then just before you read, Brother Alan Wilco, please, would you get 1 Peter 2.22 while David reads. Okay. Proverbs 10, verse 31. The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom, but the forward tongue shall be cut off. The mouth of the righteous. I just want us to note the connection in every one of these verses between the righteous and their mouth. Sir Alan Wilco, my dear brother, 1 Peter 2.22. 1 Peter 2, verse 22. Yes. Who do no sin, neither was guilt found in his mouth. Now, Brother David, does it say guilt or what is that word exactly? Guilt. Now, I pronounce the word guile and maybe you pronounce it guilt. What is the meaning of that word? It's an old English word and so it's not common to us. I think the meaning of the word deceit. You are correct. Forwardness. Forwardness. So, a man that has no deceit. A man that says how any event happened or speak the truth at all costs. Oh, that's good. What would be the opposite? A man who is tricky. A man who can lie. A man that no truth can be found in his mouth. Yes, that would definitely be the meaning of guile. And then the other extreme or the opposite would be someone who tells the truth and they are transparent. Their lips would be full of truth. Their mouth would be full of righteousness. So, it was said about Jesus that no guile was found in his mouth. What a testimony of a righteous man. Where does it say? The one who does not sin in word, the same is a perfect man. James chapter 3 verse 2. James 3 verse 2. Brother Zebedee, are you able to read tonight? I'll give you another one. Brother Zebedee, if you're able to read tonight, Joshua 1 and verse 8. Brother David, if you have James 3 verse 2. James 3 verse 2. We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he sees, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check. I just read that in NIV translation. Yes, it sounded like it was. Whoever is able to keep his mouth in check, the same is a perfect man. Reminds me of earlier in James where it says, talks about the tongue. And they say any animal can be tamed. They put bit in horse's mouth and cause them to go wherever they want. But the tongue is full of evil and deception and cannot be tamed. But here in James 3 verse 2, it's implying that possibly that the Lord is able to transform this life so deeply. With his word and his spirit, his nature, that these mouths also become a fountain of blessing. He says also in James, such a powerful book about the mouth, about words. He says, out of the same mouth comes cursing and blessing. Brothers, these things should not be so. For with our mouth we bless God and with our mouth we curse men. So James is pointing out how important it is to God about our tongues. And how our whole being must come under subjection to the Holy Spirit. If we are to be a mouthpiece of God and people began to recognize that we speak on behalf of God. Will it not cause a lot of confusion if we begin to out of our own flesh curse someone. Or declare something is so when it is not. This is why we need God to purify our whole being. For out of the heart the mouth speaks. And so we cannot control and put a bridle, a horse's bit in our mouth. But we can come under the control of the Holy Spirit. So that our heart is cleansed and pure. We have eaten and consumed truth. And consumed of the nature and the wisdom of God for our own life. And then what begins to come out of our mouth is sweet. It's consistent, it's dependable and it's wisdom. How many times have we spoken rashly. Spoken rashly rather than wisely. This is the training of a man of God. One of the areas of training that he will bring us under is in the area of our mouth. Please allow the Holy Spirit as he says set a watch oh Lord. Set a watch before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips. We desire that God would. Psalm 141 verse 3 and 4. It's not Proverbs it's Psalms. 141 verse 3 and 4. Whoever is able when you find it read it. Psalm 141 verse 3 and 4. Verse 3 says set a guard over my mouth oh Lord. Keep watch over the doors of my lips. Verse 4. Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil. To take part in wicked deeds with men who are evildoers. Let me not eat of their delicacies. It's good. Brother David what does that speak to you? Well, seriously this is the first time I'm saying this. Oh okay. So it sounds like it hits you very hard. So what does it say? Like yeah exactly. This verse shocks me immediately. Set a guard over my mouth. Like help me to cut what comes out of my mouth. Yes. Keep a watch at the doors of my mouth. Let not my heart be drawn to. You know before anything comes out the Bible says that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. And the book of James said that if you can control what comes out of your mouth you can put your whole body in check. You know I think it is inevitable for any man's heart to think something that is negative. But when you think something that is negative the confirmation that your next action will be a negative action is what comes out of your mouth. Yes. If you have a negative thought and the next thing that comes out of your mouth comes out what you have in mind that negative thought dies. So this David is saying that God should set a guard. Like caution what is coming out of my mouth. When you say things your heart gives to you automatically your whole body is moved towards that direction. That is why he said let not my heart be drawn to evil and let me not eat from the delicacies of evildoers. When you say things and your heart continues to pump out something that is negative and you keep saying that. Before you understand it you find yourself in the midst of people that you are not supposed to find yourself in. Because what you say directs your next action. And our world, the Bible said that we are ensnared by the words of our mouth. Even our conscience will keep warning you concerning the things that you say and things that you say that you did not do. So it is very very important for any shade of God to be very careful on what comes out of your mouth. Especially negative things. Whenever your heart comes up with any negative thought counter it with the word of God. And that negative thought dies off. And you answered the question I was going to ask everyone is how do we deal with this mouth that will speak those things. And you answered by filling our hearts with the word of God, the truth. I would say also with honoring, honoring others. Let our mouths not speak dishonor of others. When we speak honor we cannot complain about someone, gossip about someone. Put someone down and lift ourselves up. It is such a habit of worldly people to lift themselves up by the use of their mouth. But God did not call us to lift ourselves up by our words. Come on men of God, come on here. Hear what the Lord is saying. God did not call us to use our mouth to lift ourselves up. May the Lord connect us. He called us to speak the words of the Lord. And God will lift us up. Or God will bring us down. It's not for us to build our reputation by our excellent words. Our motive is incorrect. It's for us to proclaim the word of God with the nature of God to the people of God. That they may hear and could be a fountain of life. Let's see in Proverbs 10 verse 11. Choice silver and a fountain of life. These are the descriptions that the Bible has. Proverbs 10 verse 11. Really the whole chapter of Proverbs 10 deals with our mouths. Proverbs 10 verse 11. The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life. But violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked. Proverbs 10 verse 21 and 22 in the same chapter. Verse 21. The lips of the righteous nourishes many. But fools die for lack of judgment. Verse 22. The blessing of the Lord brings wealth. And he adds no trouble to the rich. Amen. Amen. The lips and the mouth of the righteous are like a fountain of living water. That can sustain many. When the praises of God are continually in our mouth. So is the wisdom of God readily available. The wisdom just flows out with praises. With worship. With truth. It flows from the same spirit. Jesus instructed his disciples that in the day that you stand before magistrates. In the day that you're tested. You don't have to think in advance what are you going to say. Just open your mouth and I will fill it. You know if they had not been filling their hearts with truth. And with being in the presence of Jesus. Then what would have come out of their mouths would have been affected by fear. Would have been affected by defending themselves. Oh we use our mouth to defend ourselves. Rather than to speak the words of the Lord. The tongue of the just is just like choice silver. But the heart of the wicked is worthless. The lips of the righteous will feed many. I mean how can my lips feed anyone? Oh it's not talking about physical food. It's talking about those words that bring life to somebody. How often has our mouth been used to hurt others. To make them feel less than. And to lift us up. To build our reputation. The Lord convict us. A man of God cannot allow his mouth to be used to build himself up. But to build others up. The Lord calls us to prophesy in 1st Corinthians 14. But prophesy with the motive that we may edify. So to edify means to build. To build up others. To encourage, strengthen, instruct, even correct in love. You know a correction in love is so much different than our words of condemnation. We're not called to condemn others. We're called to correct others. Using our mouth. Using the truth of the word of God. Oh I don't know if anyone is mature here today and wants to hear what we're saying. It takes a maturity to realize that. The Lord has called us to be his mouthpiece. And he wants to train us. And that training begins now. The next time brother so and so steps on your foot, what comes out of your mouth, let it be of edification. The next time your child irritates you, let you bless your child and not curse. And not let the ill word but only that which is for edifying. May the Lord help us. This training is too difficult for me. Even as Isaiah said, I'm a man of unclean lips Lord and I dwell with a people of unclean lips. Everyone around me is talking so the same. But the Lord says, no Isaiah, I have called you to speak my words and to be my mouthpiece. I have set my bridle upon your lips so that you may speak my words and not your own. In Isaiah chapter 58, there's a very interesting statement near the end of the chapter. Hallelujah. Verse 13. Isaiah 58. Let's read verse 9 and verse 13. Isaiah 58 verse 9. Then you will call and the Lord will answer. You will cry for help and he will say, here I am. If you do away with the yoke of oppressions with the pointing finger and malicious talks. Verse 13. If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on the holy day. If you call the Sabbath a light and the Lord's holy day honorable. And if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words. Sorry. Yeah. That's good. Verse 14. Then you will find your joy in the Lord. And I will cause you to ride on hides of the land and to feast on the inheritors of your father Jacob. The mouth of the Lord has spoken. Now it's interesting that only in two places in the Bible do we find this phrase for the mouth of the Lord has spoken. They're both in Isaiah. One is I think the first chapter. And then also this one. The mouth of the Lord has spoken something. And he's dealing with his people. And he said if you remove that yoke from in your midst and the pointing of the finger and speaking vanities. So these are pointing of the finger almost always includes words where we are accusing other people. We're judging other people in a negative way. We are to judge. We are to discern. But we're not to pronounce judgments. Does that make sense? It's the position of a judge to pronounce what someone deserves to be judged by. It is our job to discern and to look into matters and to understand people and to know and to see and to discern. This is correct judgment. One day we'll talk about that. But it is not our job to judge in the sense of pronouncing you deserve three years in prison for your actions. You are a horrible person. And therefore you deserve something horrible. This is not the judgment we're called to. That's the pointing of the finger. Accusing others. Many times in the world we are trained to judge others. Meaning like, oh, there's a 10 out of a 10. No, that's just a 6 out of 10. Oh, their speech was only a 7 out of 10. And we judge in that manner, which is not ours to judge. Leave the judgment to God. It is for us to honor and appreciate and to speak well. Okay, verse 13. He says, turn our foot from the Sabbath. Turn from doing our own pleasure, from speaking our own words and seeking our own way. And then to take delight in the Lord. How does this inform our mouth? When we're doing our own thing, we have the right to speak our own words. But when we've been under the anointing and we've been chosen by God to speak as his mouthpiece, then our mouth becomes his. Our life becomes his. Our ambitions are checked with him. Oh, often God will put something in our heart we desire to do, and that's wonderful. But selfish ambitions are not pleasing to God and won't lead us to be servants of the king of kings. Do we want to be a son of God, a mature son who can represent him? Then our mouths are different. The requirements of God upon us are different. When we're a child, children say all kinds of things, and no one takes them seriously. But when an ambassador, a representative of the government, when someone like that speaks, especially on national television, the words that they say represent power. Now, it's a poor example these days because of the corruption of our own governments and the lives of people, dear brothers and dear sisters. If we want to be used of the Lord as his mouthpiece, we come under the training of the Holy Spirit. He will put a bit in our mouth, and he will, like David cried out, Lord, set a watch over my lips. Keep the door of my mouth. Our heart changes, says Lord, this mouth I dedicate to you. Look at how many prophets touched their mouth. May I encourage you, cry out to the Lord, God, touch my mouth. Fill my heart with your words. Reveal to me the truth. Sometimes when I teach, I'm speaking things that the Lord taught me, I hate to say it, 40 years ago, 10 years ago. A wise man, a rich man, out of the treasures of his heart, bring it forth things both old and new. Let this mouth be like a river of choice, silver. Oh, let this tongue be filled with his praises, filled with wisdom, filled with insight and encouragement and understanding. Never let this mouth be used to dishonor others, to accuse others, to blame others, or just to build ourselves up. May the Lord help us to open ourselves for training so that he may teach my heart and my mouth to speak. And I may speak out of the abundance of his riches within my heart. Oh, bring it forth, Lord, out of our spirit, things both old and new, things that you've revealed unto us, Lord, mighty God. For the Lord looks for someone to speak to and to speak through. In the faith chapter, Hebrews chapter 11, on nearly every example, the Lord showed Noah the plans how to build, and he built in faith. The Lord spoke to Abraham that he would have a son, and he believed, and so he spoke. When God speaks to us and we believe and therefore we speak, our mouths become instruments of power that God can use to do great and mighty things. The instrument of prayer. When we pray, not my will, but thine be done, our mouths are actively praying the will of God. First John chapter 5 says this is the confidence that we have in him. That if we ask anything with our mouth, according to your will, O God, we know that you hear us and we know that you will give us the petition that we ask of you. Confidence. Confidence that we have heard the will of God and we have prayed the will of God. These mouths the Lord wants to deal with and train us in the area of what we speak, and what we speak comes out of our hearts. So he's got to deal with our stinky hearts, our inappropriate attitudes, and our pride, and our desire to be somebody. Even our fears and insecurities as God deals with it. He says, fear not man, open your mouth and speak the words that I give you. Lord help us. This is the training of men of God to speak the words of the Lord. Paul told his people to earnestly desire the best gifts, but especially you would be able to prophesy. In other words, to speak the words that God is speaking. Desire earnestly that you might speak the words that God is speaking. Because when we speak God's will and God's words, we release a tremendous power. Because God is looking for someone to be his mouthpiece. To breathe life into others. To speak truth unto others. May God help us to be those who he uses. Our tongues would be under the control of the Holy Spirit. I encourage you to read the book of James chapter 1, 2, and 3. And observe what is he saying about the mouth. Today we'll keep this study short. Because I think we have enough to chew on here. And I will also post the notes in the group. And you're welcome to use these in any way that is encouragement and a benefit. Amen. Let's pray. Father, in the name of Jesus, we thank you for your word to this day. Father, for each one who will hear these words that you put in our hearts. God, we desire to be your mouthpiece. But now we realize that, Lord, you're going to have to train us. You're going to have to deal with us. We need you to cleanse us. Lord, set your fire upon our lips. Oh, Lord, send forth a baptism of your Holy Spirit to cleanse us. And to take control of our whole being, Lord, including our mouth. Lord, help us this day. Amen. Help us this day, Lord. Amen. Amen. From this day forward, oh, God, just make it coveted with our mouth and with you, Lord. Thank you, Lord. This mouth is for you and not just for me. Forgive us, Heavenly Father, for thinking we can say whatever we want to say, whenever we want to say it. For, Lord, that is not true. Lord, we're not our own. We've been bought with a price. You called us, Lord, many of us, to be your mouthpiece. To speak your words. Thank you for the training of the Holy Spirit. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord, for opening my eyes to understand you, Lord. Thank you. Lord, we thank you that you want to use us to see miracles happen. And that we would declare a thing and it would happen. Many teach that, Lord. Father, how many teach that training that's required to entrust that kind of power. Oh, that it might not be used for our glory, but for yours alone. Lord, many desire to have that power, but, Lord, they're not ready to be your servants. They're not ready to handle. So, Lord, we need that training. That our mouths would come under your control. And that our lips would be used for your glory. Oh, mighty God, help us. In the wonderful name of Jesus, we pray. Take these words. Take these words. And just use them in every life that hears them. In the wonderful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen. Amen. David, any comments from you? Brother Zebedee is back now. Welcome, Brother Zebedee. I'm sorry for your network.
