Nurses often struggle with mental health due to the emotional toll of their job. A study found that a third of nurses surveyed experienced moderate to severe anxiety, while almost half met criteria for moderate to severe depression. Additionally, nearly half were at risk for developing PTSD. These findings highlight the importance of addressing mental health in the nursing profession. So this next part in our discussion is about mental health. I think everybody in their life has at one point or another struggled with some type of mental health. Nurses go through so much during their job, seeing their patients die, not being able to help. That takes a huge toll on them. So while I've previously talked about some small mental health aspects of nurse burnout in this podcast, I just want to take a few moments to go more into depth about it. In a study done to learn more about the mental health tolls on nurses, a measure of moral distress, burnout, PTSD symptoms, anxiety, and depression were taken by surveying volunteers. 488 nurses responded to the survey that they received. Around a third of respondents met criteria for moderate to severe anxiety. 44.6 of respondents met the criteria for moderate to severe depression, and 46.7% of respondents were at risk for developing PTSD.
