Well, we bought in October But we didn't get our visas For the joys of Brexit Until we came in on the 7th of January So we opened on the 10th of February So not very long No, so it's all new to you as well then Have you ever done anything like this before? Not owned a bar No, no, I've worked in bars And I've done a lot of events and stuff I've worked in a very different world I worked in broadcast journalism for a long time So organising filming or events Or outside broadcast You know, getting people together I am familiar with And I think it is a transferable skill Because what we're trying to do is build a really strong Music home in the Diamant Where it feels like this is where You can walk in here on a Saturday night And there will be live music Do you want this to be a place for live music then? Yeah, we want it to be a home For all different kinds of music And Tuesdays as well We do it on Tuesdays as well And we have our jam and our open mic Every month Of which Brian is incredibly helpful With the jam And we've heard a bit about that So it's about bringing All of the different kinds of musicians As much as we can Represent the different people Because it's a really strong musical community I think in this area It's quite surprising how many people there are Who are musicians who live here There's a lot of people Quality musicians as well Because I've got one of them with me now And that's Brian Bennett Hello Brian, welcome back to the show I wouldn't say quality Going back to you Justine Are you looking to Expand your music then With the jam nights Are you going to keep those going? Oh yeah, absolutely They happen every month First Tuesday of the month Unless there's some reason we have to move them But it will always be the first Tuesday of the month Unless there's a special reason And then open mic is the third Tuesday of the month We also do quizzes But one of the quizzes we do is a music quiz Which we'll be doing again in a few weeks time Which again It's all about music It's organised by a fantastic guy called Robin Who we raise money for Hope, the association And for the animal charity So that's Kind of activities around the music And then of course it's different performers Different musicians coming On the Saturday and the Tuesday in between times So you also do Craft noons or something? We do, we do We're trying to get some events going So different kinds of things to do So we've had a couple of craft noons We've got another one coming up Which is on the 18th of May Sorry, 25th of May Sorry, on the 25th of May We've got classic cars Come once a month to meet on the Saturdays They're coming again on the 18th Really fantastic, interesting cars If you're a car enthusiast We're trying to bring different kinds of activity Into the bar This is a community bar And there's a real diverse mix of people Who live in this area You've got obviously the French community But you've also got a very strong expat community here You've got different ages So yeah, it's trying to bring something Something for everyone we hope Well that's great, well good luck with it all And thank you very much again for allowing me to come And record Brian with his jam night And we'll come and see you again soon It's a pleasure Mick, thank you so much for being here Thank you, now then Brian Turning to you, the jam night Now on the jam night What made you decide to do it on the jam night? I think Wolfie Wolfie's a resident of this village And well known to everybody Plays drums, has done forever Much like myself And Wolfie almost talked me into it You know, it wasn't going to happen And we said yeah, Wolfie said Why don't you give it a try And we did, he was going to help Because of his His operations on his hip And his knee, he's not been able to So it sort of pushed me In the deep end if you like, initially in January And so far it's working And you enjoy doing it? Yeah, it's a little bit of hard work Trying to keep everybody happy But I mean it's good, it's so good for the bar Good for the community So for those of us that don't know What's the difference between a jam night And an open mic night? Oh, difficult I think basically a jam night Allegedly is I guess for Established, broke, competent musicians Who can actually get up And ad lib and jam I think an open mic is to show people People who have not gigged, not in bands But would like to be Or have done some maybe private parties And would like to get up And do what they can do And then develop their part of the music scene That's great, yeah Because it is different It's actually catching here tonight With the people for the jam night I guess it must be the same On the open mic nights as well I think it is very popular So many people want to get up And sing And play and whatever And why not It's such a good thing Today we didn't have this sort of thing Well no, because it's not been I mean jam nights and open mics They've not been going that many years really No, I don't know, maybe 15, 20 years Even in the UK I don't remember it that long back So since we last spoke You've joined a band Yes, I did a gig with Echo Road Some from this area Some from much further south Haute Vienne and even De Duyne Nice people So five, these two female singers Drums and bass and guitar now So I started in December, did one And then January, February and here we are now So I'm going to do as many as we are able This season, this summer at least Great, so you're going to be out and visiting You're also getting involved with Back to Soul Back to Soul, yeah They've got a few Well they've got actually quite a lot of summer geeks Now that Chris is back from his His work in Germany So yeah, all the time I can If I'm not committed elsewhere Then I will be doing some gigs with them Again, friends, nice people, good band That's great So on the last time we spoke to you When you came in and we did the interview You were going to have an operation on your hand I understand there's been a development Yeah The specialist said It's not ready, it's not ripe For operation and to wait So yes That's not stopping you being able to play your guitar No pain, it's just the finger Is closing up The rest of the name is a disease And I can't I can't speak How to Describe it It's not uncommon I won't be repeating that If you didn't get it there, did you? I wish you well with the jam night And we'll have a chat at the end Great, thank you Good to speak to you You You You You You You You You You You You You You You Ready set On the ground I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I
