José Daniel Zúñiga, músico, poeta y maestro, nació el 24 de mayo de 1889 en San José, en una familia de artistas. Desde niño mostró talento musical, recibiendo su primer violÃn a los cinco años. Tras estudiar en la Escuela Santa Cecilia, obtuvo su certificado como maestro de música en 1909. Destacó como docente, compositor y defensor de la música nacional, con 326 obras, incluidas Caña Dulce, su canción más conocida, y Auroral. Fue Director Técnico de Música, dejando un legado invaluable.
