Nothing to say, yet
Give me two, 10 seconds. Well, you did it weird. You went three, two, one. Let's do that again. It does matter, because we have to clap at the same time. Ready? Yeah. That was right on. All right. You ready? Go. I can do it, if you want. Then go. Okay. Start over. It's fine. All right. Start over. It's fine. What? I'm feeling good. I'm the main host, by the way. To appease my ego? Okay. I don't have an ego, Coasters. No. No. Nope. I just like it. Chicken tendies are on? We'll edit that out. We'll edit that out. The NBA finals have been... What am I going to say? Not decided. Okay, I got it. The NBA finals matchup has been set. Who would have thought? As a Heat fan, it's kind of my 9-11. Yeah. Oh, my God. I know. Yeah. Anyone but the Celtics. I think everybody in the NBA. It's such a nightmare. Man, they're so hateable. It's... It's only a little sad just because they left a bad taste in our mouth. We beat them in... The Heat beat them in 2006. Then they beat us in 2011, that infamous series. The first finals that the big three reached. Dirk Nowitzki had that crazy run playing all those really good teams. Then they faced against the big three, LeBron, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh. They played terrible. They were able to secure their first championship. We've always had kind of a bad taste in our mouth after that. Towards the Mavericks. Now it's the fucking Celtics and the Mavericks. God. Yeah, that's right. I remember in 2011 when we were up 2-0, I was like, there's no way. We're unbeatable. The Heat are unbeatable. But Dirk Nowitzki, man. Don't say that. That's unbelievable. Don't ever say that. A la T.J. McConnell back in the day. Yeah, that pigeon-toed motherfucker. Dude, that guy and... I want to say Jason Terry. Jason Terry, Michael Finley. A lot of good players on that team. Yeah, I would agree with that. So far, so far, Luca is extremely close to already surpassing him, to be honest. I mean, not in career stats. He's, I mean, the stats that he's put up his whole career since entering the league and he's on the verge of maybe winning a championship, pretty impressive. All NBA pretty much every year. Yeah, and let's pray to whatever God you believe in that he will win. I'm much happier if the Mavericks win, obviously, because this is a certified fuck Boston podcast. And I know we've had comments that we say that too much, but I don't care. We're going to continue to say it because we're passionate about it. Yeah, the basis of our friendship because we're fans of different teams. So we have to kind of come together and hate, and it's kind of beautiful in a way. Yeah, it's a bond over hate. I think Darth Vader said that once. What's that? What's that? What's that? What's that? Any villain may have said that. Homelander may have said that. Joker, yeah. Dude, you know what's funny? On Reddit, when like their team, some team loses in a horrific way, somebody will comment like, I'm becoming the Joker. I'm the Joker now. Makes me laugh. Yeah, say it again because you like went like this and you're like, yeah. I saw you tweet that, by the way, and it made me laugh. No big deal. He's so deep, man. That belongs on that subreddit, I'm14andthisisdeep. He's watching too many movies and, God, he thinks he's so smart. You can just tell he's the kind of guy that thinks he's so smart. I mean, it's kind of true, I guess. Yeah, is he a good coach or does he just have the most talented roster in the NBA? And then he had Kobe and Shaq, yeah. Yeah, but what about Spoh? He took like Jimmy Butler, Duncan Robinson to the finals. No, he's one of the best. He's the best coach in the NBA. Would you agree with that statement? Yeah, it's insane that he hasn't gotten one. I mean, that's crazy that he hasn't gotten the coach of the year. I mean, two years ago, we were the number one seed, I don't think anybody predicted that we would be the number one seed. It goes to – and we've talked about this before. It goes to, oh, the media has kind of chosen this narrative and we're going to – this coach is going to be – I mean, you're right. That's kind of how it goes, but it's bullshit. And Spolster should be up there for coach of the year more so than he is. I mean, we've been the eighth seed a couple years in a row, so I get why not the last couple years, but a lot of injuries. Sure. Yeah, should we talk about the last game of the Timberwolves and Mavericks series? That was impressive, and I think the Mavericks owe a lot to – obviously Luka and Kyrie are going to get their flowers. But that game four when Derek Lively got hurt and had to leave the ball game, the game changed so much. He is so important for their team. He is such a good player, really impressive. I can't tell how badly the Mavericks started playing after Derek Lively got out. Coasters, we just sat for an hour in silence. Yeah, the Mavericks were able to close it out. I think I saw – I mean, what else are we going to say? I completely agree that Derek Lively is really smart. He's a rookie and he sets a very good screen and then he rolls to the basket and he knows whether to go up or he knows whether to make the pass. He did make the pass and he always seemed to make the right play. Yeah, the Timberwolves, they need to learn how to finesse the refs a little bit because the Mavericks get a ton of calls because of how Luka and because of how the Mavericks play. They flop a lot and it almost seems like it's coached. I wouldn't say Kyrie's a flopper. I think Derek Jones Jr. flops a lot. I think Tim Hardaway Jr. flops a lot. But mainly, I mean, it's Luka. Luka's getting to the line so much and he complains nonstop. Pretty much every possession he's complaining. It is unbearable. Yeah, it's totally unbearable. And I wrote a note while I was watching the game. I said, Luka is really hard to watch. Aesthetically, it's kind of gross because he's slow and he does that thing where they set a screen for him and he gets the defender on his back hip and they kind of put him in jail is the phrase that people always say nowadays. And it's just fucking gross, man. And they basically just stop on a dime. Because he's slow and fat. I don't want to hate him that much, dude. Like he's super talented but like he is so slow and he just jumps into people and he just tries to go for fouls and he just fucking yells at the refs all game. And it's just gross to watch. It's just gross. And the little step back threes that he does all game long, it's like unbearable, man. Aesthetically is not aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Yeah, which basically decided the last game. And I wanted to talk about that. Luka did a pump fake. And I believe Jada McDaniels was guarding him. He, it was Kat. Okay, so it was the last foul. So it was his foul out foul. Yeah, I wanted to talk about Luka's last foul that got Kat out of the game. He did kind of a step back, pump fake. Kat didn't really jump. He kind of just did a close out. And Luka completely just jumped, changed his shooting angle and just dove right into Kat. And they gave him the foul. I mean, it's just, I mean, it is inexcusable. And now I'm getting heated. It is inexcusable for an NBA ref to fucking call that. That is a clear offensive foul. It's just disgusting, man, that he gets rewarded for that. For completely, that is not a natural shooting motion. You're just jumping into the defender. The defender did not foul you. You fouled the defender. The defender did not foul you. You fouled yourself. They need to stop calling that bullshit. They need to stop calling that bullshit. Yeah. That's why the NBA being rigged is such a huge talking point. Because theoretically, the referees, I'm not saying it is rigged, but theoretically, the refs could call two quick fouls. It's so easy to call fouls on somebody. I mean, you could just call a bullshit foul. They do it all the time. And it completely changes the game. It gets their best defenders out of the game. But I completely agree with you. Kat and Jada McDaniels, too, needs to be a lot smarter. It's okay to sometimes give them a shot. It's okay to give them a couple points. It's way more valuable when you're on the court and stop picking up. There was a couple Jada McDaniels ones where he basically got beat and Luka kind of did a step through, and he just fouled him because he didn't want him to get the points. But it's like you just picked up your third foul early in the second quarter already. It's like, dude, you have to be on the court. You're no good on the bench. On what team? A white guy? Dante Exum. Okay, look this up while I go shit really quick. I'm really sorry. I have to. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay, I'm back. God, I feel bad for whoever has to edit this. Good day. Bro, I just slid right out, dude. I'm fucking regular. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Yeah, the refs do have the hardest job. And I'm really angry with the players more because I wish they would have some integrity and they would play the game the right way and stop flopping and stop foul baiting. It just makes the viewing experience so fucking abysmal. And the refs, it's basically impossible because, like you said, the players are so good at embellishing contact and yelling and falling. I totally understand, too, that the refs are the best in the world because the NFL had a buyout year, I think, and the referees were trying to get a pay raise. So they started the season with some backup refs. They weren't the regular NFL refs. It was so much worse. They were so much exponentially worse than the regular NFL refs. It just goes to show you that the guys at the top level are there for a reason and they're extremely good at what they do. And I don't envy their job at all. It's got to be really tough. I just wish the players would stop. Just stop. Get help. It just sucks, man. It's so frustrating because the NBA is a beautiful game and it is just being ruined. The calls that I am mad at the refs for is the Luca jumping into the defender. I'm mad at them for that because that's obvious. You cannot tell me that that's not obvious. I disagree. I think they did sit down and they did say recently that if the offensive player initiates contact and changes into an unnatural shooting motion, that is an offensive foul. And the NBA referees pick and choose when to call an offensive foul. Sometimes they give an offensive foul. Sometimes they don't. It seems like this season they said they're going to make an emphasis. Last season, I think, was actually the first year where they said we're making an emphasis that we're going to start calling offensive fouls when the offensive player jumps into the defender, when the offensive player jumps into the defender and they just seem like they've stopped calling it. But that's not true. The rule is if the offensive player jumps into them, it's a foul on the offense. They need to stick to it. And then also I think what needs to happen is they need to review the game afterwards. And, for example, Nikhil Alexander-Walker, that play that you just saw, that play that you just saw is a foul on the offensive player. So they need to review the game afterwards. They need to review the game afterwards. They need to review the game afterwards. They need to review the game afterwards. They need to review the game afterwards. They need to review the game afterwards. They need to review the game afterwards. And, for example, Nikhil Alexander-Walker, that play that you talked about where he flopped, he wasn't touched but he just fell on purpose to try to draw a foul, they need to review those games and they need to start handing out fines. If you flop, you're going to get fined. I think they need to start giving out technicals for flops. I've said that for years. They need to develop kind of a, I think they are, aren't they? A yellow card? No, they're not. Maybe that. I would love to see kind of a yellow card, red card situation like in soccer where they flop, you get a fucking yellow card. If you get two yellow cards, you're out of the game. Yeah. So basketball's version of a yellow, red card is technicals. So if you flop, that's a technical. Technical is a yellow card. If you flop, that's a yellow card. If you flop, that's a yellow card. So if you flop, that's a technical. Technical foul. Let's see how many people are going to flop after you fucking get dejected from the game. Jimmy Butler, Kyle Lowry, Luka Doncic, they're out in the first quarter. The one time they called it, it actually wasn't. And Jalen Brunson flops a lot. But a lot of the good players flop a lot. Agree. Yeah. Sorry. Yeah, the Minnesota Timberwolves, they switched to a zone. I don't know how many possessions they actually ran it. It didn't seem like a whole lot. But they did switch up their looks, and they started running a zone. And they kind of said, okay, we're going to guard Luka up here at the top of the three-point line, and we're going to force you to pass it to your third or fourth options. Hey, hit a three. Beat us that way. And it was working. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, at the very least, it forces the Mavericks to see a different look and kind of change up their offense. One thing that opposing teams need to do is force Luka to play defense. Because Luka expends a lot of energy on the offensive end. And also, he doesn't seem like he's in the best of shape. I mean, honestly. But a lot of times I'm watching Luka on the defensive side of the ball, and he's able to just kind of sit on the baseline. And as the Wolves players are setting back screens, off-ball screens, they just switch and switch and switch. They allow Luka to just chill kind of on defense and not really move. And NBA teams are really, really good at that. They're really, really good at communicating with one another and switching. Because if Luka's – the person Luka's defending goes to set an on-ball screen, usually Luka will get switched on to that person who has the ball. But in the NBA, they're really, really smart, and they know that they don't want Luka to get into foul trouble or Luka to waste all of his energy on defense. So, when Luka's guy goes to set a screen, they're just switching constantly. And Luka's able to stay off that person who's going to go set that screen. But you need to find a way to get Luka to play defense. Because they were just letting him off the hook over and over and over. They were letting him just rest on the offensive side of the ball. I think the Heat do a really good job of that. Because Smolstra's kind of a wizard, and he gets people in all this action, and he kind of forces people to play defense and work really hard. But I thought that was a huge, huge thing that Luka's able to rest on defense. Whoa, what's that? We won a what? Yeah, let's finish off the Mavs, and let's get into the finals after this. But I also want to say one last thing. We're bringing back the handsome player of the week. And today's handsome player of the week is Daniel Gafford. He's a handsome guy. And the eyes are a big factor. He's got some hazel-ass eyes, bro. They're, yeah, he's attractive. Would you agree? Ha, got him. The wolves won. Good game. Good game. Yeah, he was absolutely on fire. And the wolves, when your best player in the game early on is Rudy Gobert, you're going to have a bad night. Good game. Yeah, Luka was on him, switched on him a lot in the post. And Rudy Gobert was kind of hunting that matchup, it seems like. He was being really aggressive when he got Luka guarding him in the post, and he was going hard at him. And he got to the foul line a lot early on. He doesn't shoot well from the free throw line. He doesn't shoot well anywhere. He's just gangly and not very good on offense. Obviously he's an amazing defender, interior defender, that is, not perimeter. He's an amazing interior defender. But one thing I also want to mention is Kat needs to start bullying people. He needs to start bullying people, and he needs to start playing like he's seven feet tall. Yeah, and when he drives, he's driving straight to the hoop. He has no moves in his bag. He doesn't have any footwork in the post. He's just driving with his left hand and trying to make a crazy shot. And he's always falling. He's seven feet tall. I mean, he's not going to be able to do that. He's not going to be able to do that. He's not going to be able to do that. He's not going to be able to do that. He's seven feet tall. I mean, he's a big guy, and he's strong, and he really impressed me against Jokic playing defense. But, man, you need to start playing like a seven-footer sometimes. When your shots aren't falling like they weren't falling in this series, you need to start going in the post, using your footwork, doing some little baby hooks because he's just trying to – like the degree of difficulty shots that he was doing on the inside of his drives was like out of control. Yeah, but also, now that we're kind of talking about it, Rudy Gobert is in the middle. So, he clogs up a lot of space on the interior. So, he kind of does have to play on the perimeter or get Rudy Gobert set a ball screen for him. I mean, there's a lot of different ways that you can kind of get him to play on the perimeter. I mean, there's a lot of different ways that you can get him to play on the perimeter. I mean, there's a lot of different ways that you can create space in the NBA. But the Timberwolves do have to deal with Rudy Gobert, a lot of height on the court at the same time and a lot of people on the inside of the paint. All right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, it's one of those things in today's NBA when you're hot and you're shooting a lot of threes, it looks great. But it looks really, really bad when you're missing all your threes. I mean, Steph has those games too very rarely. But when he's missing a lot, it looks really bad. Yeah, they're kind of stuck with Rudy Gobert. I mean, nobody's going to take on that contract. And Nazarene, I mean, they have a great problem to have because Nazarene is so valuable. I mean, it's not every day that you get an athletic 6'11 3&D player on your bench. So we'll see what they do with him. I don't know. Do you think they would try to move him, try to get some picks or try to get another player because they have a lot of height? I don't know if he fits on their roster. He's beloved in Minnesota. Let's see. Yeah, and this was their first playoff series together. And, like you said, they're very young. They just need to be consistent. And they'll learn that. It was a great learning experience for them. LeBron James struggled in the playoffs before. Michael Jordan has been swept in the playoffs before. So this is just a start. I don't know. They struggled in the playoffs before. Michael Jordan has been swept in the playoffs before. So this is just a stepping stone. They faced a very good Mavericks team. And they made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals. Very impressive. Beat a lot of really good teams in the process. I totally agree that they'll be back, and they have a great roster for the future. Definitely. Any time you make the semifinals, it's a great year. Definitely. Any time you make the semifinals, it's a great year. Yeah, you cannot allow Luka Doncic to just take defensive possessions off. You have to get him in action. You have to force him to play defense on ball, try to get him in foul trouble. You can blow by him. He's not fast. So they need to try everything they can to get him into a position where he can play defensively. And also staying out of foul trouble. It's the NBA Finals, so it's going to be a little bit different. They definitely let people play. The further you get into the playoffs, they let them play. So the Celtics have experience. They have a lot of experience. They have a lot of experience. They have a lot of experience. They have a lot of experience. They have a lot of experience. They have a lot of experience. They have a lot of experience. They have a lot of experience. In the finals, they played the Warriors a couple years ago, and they still have pretty much the same team. They got better. They'll have Chris Stapp's Porzingis back. They have Drew Holiday now. It's going to be a great matchup. They're two very good teams. The Mavericks are heating up, and I don't think anybody thought that they would make the finals this year, but they've proved a lot of people wrong. Hopefully they can continue their hot streak and bring home the ring. I wouldn't mind Luka winning a ring. I wouldn't mind it at all. Yeah. I just think – I don't know. I don't know how the coach is going to figure it out. We'll see what Joe Mazzula comes up with, but all those players that you mentioned are all 6'4 to 6'7, the 1 through 4. I don't know how the coach is going to figure it out. I don't know how the coach is going to figure it out. I don't know how the coach is going to figure it out. 6'4 to 6'7, the 1 through 4. Is he 6'9? I thought he was, like, 6'7. But all those players are kind of a similar height. I just think Luka, his coach, Jason Kidd, is just saying, hey, if they come and start setting screens, your guy that you're guarding comes to set a screen, you're just going to switch it over and over and over and over, and you're just going to sit and basically go the path of least resistance and just try to stay as still as possible and just continue to switch. And his team is going to pick up the slack form on the defensive end. You have to be really creative and try to get Luka into the game somehow. I just think an off-ball defender is going to recognize that, and I think that's the Mavericks game plan. They'll recognize that Luka's about to be put on the ball, and they'll say, hey, switch, switch, switch, and Luka will go out to the guy in the corner or he'll go out to the guy on the dunker spot, and he'll go to the guy that's not involved in the play. And the Mavericks are really good at that, and NBA teams are really good at that. It's very difficult to get him into the action, and I sound like a broken record. He's got it. He's got it. Wow. Yeah, that's impressive. Obviously Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington had a lot to do with that. They have a great team. The Mavericks are really, really good. They have one of the best players of all time in Luka Doncic. They have Kyrie Irving, a lot of great role players, defenders, things like that. It's still crazy that Derek Jones Jr. was an undrafted guy, and he wasn't picked up, and they got him for a vet minimum. He's been really important for them. He's a really athletic defender, very valuable in today's NBA. Great. Let's see. Let's see. Yeah, it'll be exciting. I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully it's a good game. I'm looking forward to it. We'll see. We'll see. We'll see. We'll see. We'll see. We'll see. We'll see. We'll see. We'll see. We'll see. We'll see. We'll see. We'll see. We'll see. We'll see. We'll see. We'll see. We'll see.
