Nothing to say, yet
Philip Black and his wife Norma continue their discussion on the topic of what it means to be in the image of God. They focus on the Sabbath and its significance, reading from Genesis and Exodus. They discuss the meaning of work and how the Sabbath is a day of rest for physical bodies. They also mention that Jesus affirmed the importance of the Sabbath and had a different understanding of it compared to the Pharisees. They emphasize the need to study and compare different translations of the Bible. They conclude by expressing the hope that listeners will gain insight and understanding from their discussion. all right hello this is Philip Black and once again this is Voice to Humanity and the day I have a guest with me and my guest is my wife Norma Black so if you would how about saying hello to the audience hello everyone all right what we're going to do today is we're going to continue our discussion of what is man is man in the image of God and this session will be session number eight and we are going to begin with reading Genesis 1 I'm excuse me Genesis 2 1 through Genesis 3 and then we're going to have a general discussion about some topics inside of each of the scriptures concerning heaven concerning the Sabbath and the seventh day so I'm gonna begin with reading Genesis 2 1 thus the heavens and the earth were finished and all of the host of them and on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made and God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made so the thing that I am looking at here when it talks about finished and I mentioned this in the earlier podcast in section number six that that word finished was a Hebrew word as kalah and it's an accurate translation but also I mentioned that the word in Hebrew for bride comes from this root word so that was something that I wanted to also mention again as I read verse number Genesis 2 1 so as we continue on we want to discuss the seventh day the question was is the seventh day Sunday and as we see in the scriptures it does not designate a day as we have and what we understand today so we're trying to figure out is this actually an accurate day of worship because if he sanctifies his day and it's an important day then we should know exactly what that day is in order for us to fulfill what he's required but as we read this verse it does not say he has commanded man at this point because man is still in spirit form he hasn't been formed in the body he has not been able to instruct a human that to observe this so what we want to do is we want to look at this word Sabbath what does this word really mean and for us to be able to get a good understanding of it let's read a couple scriptures let's see why the Sabbath was made because at this time man has no input at all and we know in Job as God has to make Job understand that he had no part in his creation and you can go read Job 36 through 40 I don't know exactly where it ends but you see the reason why God asked Job where were you when I form the heavens and the earth so at this point let's read Exodus 23 and 12 you want to read Exodus 23 and 12 six days thou shalt do thy work and on the seventh day thou shalt rest that thy ox and thy ass may rest and the son of thy handmaid and the stranger may be refreshed and she's reading from the King James Version by the way so I want to make that clear in case you all want to reference that scripture so when we read this the first thing that I have a question about when I read Genesis 2 and 3 is the word work there is no definition here to define what work is so it will be difficult for us if we don't know what work is to God what's in his mind as to what we call work so when we look in Exodus 23 and 12 I think if he gives us a little clarity as to what he says here so he says thou shalt do any work thou shalt in six days thou shalt do thy work and on the seventh day thou shalt rest the ox and the ass may rest and the son of thy handmaid and the stranger may be refreshed so the first thing he makes clear to us is that the Sabbath day is a day where a physical body can be refreshed because we know what God is a spirit right and as scripture says that he never sleeps a slumber so he doesn't have a physical body that requires him to rest so this is the reason that as we see here for the Sabbath this is why he created so that man could rest his work was complete it was finished so he didn't need to add anything in it but man would now begin his work in the earth so the scripture always talks about having at least the witness of two or three for all things to be established so with that same principle we would like to also go to mark mark 2 in 27 and let's see what Jesus says about this Jesus says the Sabbath day was made for man God is a spirit so Jesus said the Sabbath day was made for man so Jesus explains and agrees with Exodus 23 and 12 there is no conflict these two established what was said in Exodus 23 and 12 so now when we start talking about day day in a Hebrew man and even in Genesis 1 5 says that a day begins in the evening we are accustomed to looking at a day as beginning in a more in the morning and that is to read that's how we see what day means right that's that's the way we understand it and traditionally that is how we comprehend day but that's not how the scripture says it begins so the other question I have is when he says that he blessed and sanctified that day this day will be a day that God has set aside for us to observe for the work that he has accomplished and and why I'm saying that is because Israel was not a nation that's correct so Israel is a creation of God so God wants us to be able to rest in his finished work something that we have no part in we add nothing to so we should accept that it is a holy and sanctified work something that God has made not men so now I want to ask this question did Jesus violate the Sabbath the reason I'm asking this question is because when Jesus was confronted with the Pharisees when the disciples and Jesus went into the cornfields there was a incident that occurred how about reading Matthew 12 starting with Matthew 12 at the time Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the corn and disciples were as hunger and began to pluck the ears of corn and to eat but when the Pharisees saw it they said to him behold as disciples do not know which is not lawful to do upon the Sabbath day but he said unto them have you not read what David did when he was at hunger and they that was with him now he entered into the house of God and did eat the show bread which was not lawful for him to eat neither for them which were with him but only for the priests or have you not read in the law how down the Sabbath day the priest in the temple proclaim the Sabbath and are blameless but I say unto you that in this place is one greater than a temple but if you have not known what this meant I will have mercy and not sacrifice you would not have condemned the guiltless for the Son of Man is Lord even on the Sabbath day so we can see clearly how Jesus observed the Sabbath one of the things that is I would say interesting is how Jesus and the Pharisees saw the Sabbath in two different ways the Sabbath to the Pharisees they saw it through tradition and as I have spoken earlier about studying scripture about biases and traditions how it would make it difficult for us to receive the Word of God we can see here this same conflict is evident when Jesus is talking with the Pharisees so with them struggling with trying to define what work is on the Sabbath day it caused them to have a very different judgment about how humans should behave on this day and you can see there's something that it troubled Jesus when he made the statement that had you known what this was all about then you would not have judged so critically so Jesus himself says that he would have mercy have mercy on what their thoughts about what the Sabbath meant and so we will continue to follow this discussion about the Sabbath as we continue understanding what it means to be in the image and likeness of God one of the things that Jesus is demonstrating that God has always about humanity being able to be whole in spirit and body and because from the very foundation of the earth God has always been about preserving life so we will see this in the next session when we continue this discussion about the Sabbath and until that time we hope that you will have an opportunity to study the scriptures that we provided and what scriptures we use today are from the King James Version and you know there are many translations so it will be nice and helpful sometime to compare them because some of them are a little clearer than others so this is once again Philip Black from Boston Humanity and we are going to sign off and say until next time we hope that you will have an opportunity to study and we just pray any questions that may come in your mind and God will give you his insight for the spirit to make you be able to know the direction that he wants to walk and how we'll be able to reflect the image of God in the earth so once again this is Philip Black from Boston Humanity and we'll be signing off into the next session so God bless you to that time amen
