The writer expresses their wishes for things to be different and their dissatisfaction with their own existence. They hope that the reader is also experiencing difficulties and struggles to find answers. The writer then introduces a story about a boy who believes he knows how stories end, but is unaware that a happy ending is only considered such because it is no longer being observed. Dear Reader, I wish I could say that I hope this letter finds you well. I wish that we were graced by different circumstances. I wish that in those different circumstances we could be friends. I wish the story was different. I wish I had more lines. I wish the sun rose west to east and the oceans covered the world and every life on this pitiful planet flickered out and left me in quiet. Ridiculous. You see that, don't you? Wishing for ideas beyond your understanding. Taking things you have no right to take. What a sorry existence to lead. So I hope this letter finds you terribly. I hope the world is bearing down on you, the walls and ceiling closing in, and you have no idea why. I hope you turn and turn in dizzying circles looking for answers. I hope they never find you. Perhaps, if I were kinder, I would pity you. The story goes like this. A boy who barely knows this world from the next takes it upon himself to be a teacher, a mentor. He thinks he has seen enough. He thinks he knows how this story goes. He thinks just because endings have been happy before means they can be happy always. He does not know that a happy ending is only an ending because it is no longer being watched.
