I was excited to learn that the secrets of the restaurant fame and excellent internet reviews as I set out on my brunch time visit with my parents. As soon as you walk in, the building's elegance draws your attention. Features like towering ceilings and a grand brown staircase are combined with a historical touch caused by the former bank vault converted into a bathroom entry. The upbeat sounds of well-chosen music demonstrated a big attention to detail. It helped to improve the ambiance. According to Emily Peterson, one of the owners of the original restaurant in Lawrence, she says that you can go straight into the kitchen from the dining room, and people do. It's intentionally very open, Emily says. People walk back to compliment the team and the chef. Everything comes down to community, transparency, and openness. So we did the remodel with those things in mind. Peterson also states, we knew how much our area had to offer, and we wanted to showcase that. While my parents and I were enjoying our brunch, our waiter brought great service, struck up a conversation, and recommended the best appetizers to us. The laughing of people closely mixed with the pace of the footsteps on the staircase. The air was filled with the aroma of the freshly made food. I especially enjoyed the cozy feel of home radiating from the upper level's carpet, as it reminded me of the one in my grandma's house. I learned a lot about Lawrence's food scene and cultural identity, which will help me further my education on the history of Lawrence.
