S02E04 Baby Dumbo

A group of people chartered a submarine to go down and see the Titanic. However, the submarine ended up imploding, killing four people, including the CEO who built it. The CEO cut corners and used questionable materials, such as expired carbon fiber and possibly an old septic tank. The passengers were packed tightly inside the submarine and couldn't open it from the inside once sealed. The whole idea of going down to see the Titanic seemed unnecessary and dangerous, considering that it can already be seen through pictures and videos. The incident also brought up discussions about using gaming controllers in serious situations, like flying an airplane. Some speculate that the submarine incident may have been a distraction from other news stories. Additionally, there were jokes made about Celine Dion's song from the movie Titanic resurfacing on Spotify. That's right, it's another night, I'm not sure, take my keys, grab yourself a drink, sit back, relax, let me, Foxtail, and Junk. Who do you want to start? I don't really know exactly what to think about this because I didn't even know this was a thing. I didn't know that they had some kind of like toy boat that you could go on all the way down and see the Titanic in. Well apparently they don't. Controlled by like a video game controller or something. It's a beautiful Logitech controller, it's a nice controller. Okay, Logitech, alright, I've been hearing Playstations, Xboxes, all of everything but. So, I would never do it. So even if I was aware of this, I wouldn't be down. I know I've jumped out of an airplane twice skydiving, but like, I hate water, I don't like drowning, I don't want to drown. Yeah, no, it sounds god awful terrible. Yeah, so right now, no, I don't know why they even did this and it wasn't even, were they, I guess this wasn't a normal day, this was just a special event here. No, yeah, this is like a trip that basically they chartered more or less, I guess that's probably not the right word, but this guy who built the submarine and decided to take it down there was like, hey, you know, who wants in 250,000 bucks a pop, my guess is he was picturing himself as like a Richard Branson or something and take people up into space for cash when he's going down to the Titanic, he just forgot to build it good. It's been tested before, they've used it multiple times in the past. But have they been down to the Titanic multiple times? Not that well. Yes. Did they? Really, in this exact vehicle? Yes, it didn't implode before. I guess that is a key difference, a key difference in the whole scenario is the lack of implosion, I do agree. I do love, I feel like it's karma, love is a strong word. I was going to say, good lord, that's a tight embrace. I feel bad for the four people that died, but the guy who's the CEO who was in it, I don't feel bad for him at all, because he cut corners and did all kinds of shit to do this, and he basically killed four people and himself. So I wish he was just on there by himself, but yeah. Well, I do know that part of the infrastructure that was used was carbon fiber that was purchased from Boeing. I believe it was Boeing, and that Boeing didn't want to use it anymore because it had passed its expiration date, which I didn't know carbon fiber was a perishable item. But I guess that is the case here, and there were some other corners being cut. Is it true, I saw this and I'm not positive, that he used actually an old septic tank as the main body of it? I could not say yes or no to that, I do not know. You don't know, didn't get the research done that deep? That's all right. From the photos I'm looking at, it looks like an old grill. Well, it's definitely terrifying in that, if you see the pictures and the diagrams of how they were had to be sat in there, I mean, they're very much like, kind of like I'm sitting right now, cross-legged and kind of hunched over. And they're packed in, and the other thing that freaked me out was you can't, apparently, you can't open this thing from the inside. Once you're sealed in from the outside, that's the only, you can't open it. So even if things like started to go awry, you can't just like pop the hatch and, you know, bail. You're committed, fully. I mean, to me, there's so many things about this that are dumb. Like that, number one. Why do you need to go down and see the Titanic? What are you going to see that you haven't already seen in pictures and videos and shit? And the movie. It's like, what? And the movie. Like, the movie clearly explained it. Yeah, straight facts. Yeah, the movie pretty much, that's not why I needed it. Straight facts. Like, it's not like you can get out and walk on it and touch stuff. Like, all you can do is look through a window and see it, which you can already do with TV. Like, to me, this is just like a bunch of people that have so much fucking money, they don't know what to spend it on. So they're like, hey, let's get in a little six inch or six foot cylinder tube and fucking go down and see the Titanic. Why not? You know, it's like, it's dumb. Can you not scuba dive down there? Like, is it too far down where you can't even? Oh, I think it's far enough down that you're going to get crushed if you try to go that far without a submersible. Okay. But then they've been sending this crushable submersible back and forth for a while now. And, yeah, it just sounds like a good old cold case of cutting corners. Well, a wireless mouse. I can't even get wireless to work at my house sometimes. Yeah. So let's take a wireless object down to the Titanic. Okay. And also. Yeah, you buy the thing for $30 on Amazon, the controller that they use to control this thing. Nobody thought that was a red flag? Jesus Christ. So something that I did find interesting, kind of ancillary research that was done into this. I was looking into the controller aspect of it. I didn't realize this, but it wasn't all that long ago that the Navy, the United States Navy, used a pretty complicated, like $30,000 piece of equipment to operate the periscope and the submarines and whatnot. And actually, as the millennials, such as ourselves, and the Gen Zers became seamen, I guess it would be, in the Navy, they actually changed. And this is dead serious. I know it sounds like a joke. They changed to a controller that's very similar to, like, an Xbox or a PlayStation controller to control the periscope. Because we and the generations around us are so familiar with using that type of control. Saved the military a bunch of money and gave them more accurate controls, apparently. Yay! I mean, a periscope is one thing. You don't have a bunch of people's lives in your hands with a periscope. No, you're right. You just have, like, a long eyeball in your hands. Yeah, like, do you want to get on an airplane where the pilots are flying it? No. Sorry. I thought that was the whole question. I do not want to get on an airplane. Like, let's say they've changed airplanes to where you can fly it with an Xbox controller. Do you want to get in that airplane? Because I don't. Wireless or no? I don't care. It's got to be wireless. If it's a wired controller and it is Gen X or younger that's controlling it, I would feel more comfortable with it. I'd rather fly a plane with a controller than with a thick... Well, then that means that thing was already leaking. They were in such close quarters, they would have all synced up. That thing had already been leaking to give off some scent, you know? That means there wasn't any Titans in there. Yeah, there would have been a bloodbath in there for a different reason. No, they're smart. They don't land. Oh, my God. So, there have been many different fucked up jokes. I guess we're just feeding into it now to the disgusting people that we are. Many jokes told about this. But kind of a large meta joke that's come out of this is that Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On, the song from Titanic, actually hit the Spotify Top 100 this week. It came in at number 12. Yeah. 7.8 million times that song has been streamed on Spotify. I have to imagine at least half of those were probably for various TikTok videos and whatnot. So, there's like a societal breakdown of our humor here. We're talking about 7.8 million in just the matter of a couple days. Yeah, it's a few days. Yeah, this is just because of this whole story. And if you deep dive into the comment section of that little thread that you sent on that, the best part is not only is it the Celine Dion song or whatever with the Titanic and everything else, but 90% of the comment section is filled with, I guess she has stiff body syndrome or something? So, basically, besides the submarine doing what it's doing and what's going on with it, everybody's more worried about the stiff body syndrome or extreme breast cancer that Celine Dion has now. Well, I mean, I don't know if you guys heard, but Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden's son, was charged with some crimes this week. And, conveniently, the submarine crashed to bury that story. Okay. I think a great example of motivation right now that I just saw the other day, great example of motivation, the Oral Roberts baseball team has actually found a way to keep their players upbeat and it's working. Any time that an Oral Roberts ball player, a hitter, gets on first base, gets a little single or maybe draws a walk, the first base coach is actually keeping a pocket full of gummy worms. He's like feeding it to them like a little baby bird. He's just dropping it right in their mouth there, which I find to be, it's beautiful. Very touching. Is that what you're going to have your son do? So I was actually thinking about that. Our season's almost over. We only have one game left next Thursday, the championship game of the tournament, by the way, in case anybody's wondering. Number one seed here. But I thought about that. They need some kind of additional motivation to get on base because winning baseball apparently is not enough motivation. And that's the sad part. It should be. It should be.
