Apple's new introduction to reality technology, the Apple Vision Pro, combines virtual reality and augmented reality. It has the potential to replace phones and change how businesses, consumers, and the tech industry function. VR technology gained popularity in recent years, especially during quarantine when people turned to it for entertainment and connection. Oculus's success led to its acquisition by Facebook, now known as Meta. The Apple Vision Pro has advanced features and capabilities that can revolutionize various industries and workspaces. However, some are concerned about the negative impact of technology on society, such as addiction and control. The future of technology, including the Apple Vision Pro, is both exciting and terrifying, as it has the power to shape our lives and societies. Disruptive technology. The Apple Vision Pro is Apple's new introduction to reality technology. Unlike previous reality technology, Apple is incorporating virtual reality with our own reality, known as augmented reality or AR. Technology like this has yet to be seen before and is acting as the doorway into a future that will change how businesses, consumers, and the entire tech industry function and behave. I can see the Apple Vision Pro replacing phones sometime this century. It's truly a view into the future. VR was tried by some major gaming companies in the 80s and 90s, and they failed miserably despite their influence on game culture, like Nintendo and Sega. VR started to blow up when Palmer Luckey, John Carmack, and their team developed the Oculus. It took off in 2013, but it made its mark in 2019 and 2020. During quarantine, people were left unable to see their family and friends. VR helped make a dark time a little bit brighter. VR was able to transport you to another world. You could watch movies, travel, and play games with family and friends. During this time, there wasn't a single gaming streamer that hadn't played in VR. This resulted in many consumers buying VR headsets of their own. With how many people were now investing in VR, game developers quickly developed games with chat rooms where you could talk to strangers and friends in fun environments via virtual reality. Oculus's overwhelming success caught the eye of Mark Zuckerberg, owner and creator of Facebook. Oculus was sold to Facebook for $2 billion. Oculus is now known as Meta. Meta makes the VR headsets, the best of their craft. VR has paved the way for all of VR technology, including the Apple Vision Pro. I think Apple has bigger plans, though. They know the potential of the Apple Vision Pro. It has all the convenience of an iPhone and a computer, except far more advanced. It will change the entertainment industry, spatial audio for any movie. The screen can even expand to 100 feet wide. All this while still being able to interact with reality. And if you want, you can even tune out reality, fully emerging in VR and vice versa. It will change how we work. All the data you need is accessible by simply moving your eyes or waving your hand. You can see all your tabs and spread them out however you like, controlling the size and the volume and still in tact with reality. The capabilities will only continue to grow. So far, we've seen doctors trying out the Apple Vision Pro to aid with health care. This thing can change how human beings function. Being out of touch with reality, the capabilities war on control and consumerism. All past technology will be rendered useless and the tech game will be changed forever. In my opinion, this product is more bad than good. As we've evolved, we've become far more involved with technology. It's kept us alive for so long from ancient civilizations expanding thousands of years ago to now. With each generation, the same complaint is made. You kids are far too immersed in technology. In my day, we used to play outside. And it's true. I can make the same complaint now. Every time I go shopping, all the kids are glued to their phones or iPads, out of touch with reality. They throw tantrums when their devices are taken away. It makes sense to me. I would do the same thing as a tired parent. But this is our new reality. Each decade, it feels like technology expands in ways that we've never even thought to dream of. But now it feels like those dreams are infused with reality. It is something straight out of Ready Player One, and it's terrifying. If I see people wearing these out in the street, I'm going to freak out. Technology has been... It's beginning to scare me lately. With this and new recent developments in AI, there are going to be many new laws set into motion with how we utilize technology. It's dangerous. Framing and priming already have very influential ways to shape our opinions, like algorithms. These lead to extreme beliefs, exposed to content only portraying one side, and controlling what we see and what we think provides easy ways to control societies, combined with how AI is being used to create deepfake videos that have the potential for war. I'm scared to see how far this is going to go. Being here while it's happening, something that you know will change the world, is the feeling of excitement and fear. The Apple Vision Pro is quite literally the key to the future. It faces backlash now for being so expensive and the technology not being all the hype Apple has spat out. Who knows, maybe this will flop, being forgotten and discarded in the past. Or it could be the start of spatial computing, changing how the world works.
