The Sacramento Kings are currently ranked eighth in the Western Conference with a record of 31-23. Compared to last season, the Kings are not doing as well, but the competition in the West is tougher this year. They struggle to win consecutive games and have lost to weaker teams. Keegan Murray has shown improvement, but is still inconsistent. Kevin Herter has had a solid season as a role player. Harrison Barnes has been inconsistent, while Demantas Sabonis has been a solid contributor. De'Aaron Fox is having a great season, but the Kings need more depth and a true second scorer. Their defense is also lacking, ranking poorly in points allowed and three-point percentage. Overall, the Kings need to make improvements to be more competitive. yo what's good y'all it's John O back from Topgolf Central and in today's video we're going to be going over the Sacramento Kings and really just how they've done this season from the start leading up to now let's get right into it. So the Sacramento Kings are currently sitting at number eight in the Western Conference currently as of all-star break with a record of 31 and 23 which is kind of similar to how they were last season going into the all-star break they were 32 and 25 last year which in last year's you know NBA that was good enough for the third seed in the West and the Kings honestly may not be as you know that bad compared to last year honestly the West is just so much stronger than last year for sure because a lot more players and teams are a lot more healthier than you know last season on the West so there's just really not a huge margin for error for this team and it's just going to be a lot more tighter because you know most of the uh Western Conference is decided by just a few wins by each ranking and it's just a lot more tighter and there's just so much more talent that's healthy this season over on this side and one thing I would say is the Kings kind of have trouble winning consecutive games as they've only went on like two decent runs throughout the season and another thing that I would say that they've struggled with is losing to bad teams like the other week they lost to the Detroit Pistons by 13 points and they've even lost to other teams such as the Hornets and the Trailblazers and yeah just some of these losses are kind of just inexcusable and yeah and also I kind of want to dive into some of the players I kind of want to run down and go over Keegan Murray real fast and just how he's improved so far this season and what we've seen out of him so far so Keegan has been kind of inconsistent in some games but some games he does show out and put on a great performance like in one game where we saw him sink in 12 three-pointers which was historic which was honestly truly insane to watch and I was watching that game live and it just seemed like the man couldn't miss and that was like the Kings future but I mean if the Kings could get this like half of that every night they would be in really good hands and I do think he has the talent to be able to do so for the future but he just needs time to develop he is just a second year player and he's still very young and we've also seen other flashes in games of what he can do such as in a trip or not triple overtime but a double overtime victory for the Orlando Magic over the Orlando Magic he put up 28 points played in 46 minutes and he shot 62 percent from the field and last month he played really good but so far this month he hasn't been the best his best game was a 17 point performance against the Denver Nuggets but other than like this month of him playing kind of bad he's had a exceptional year where he's shown us how he can improve his game and just you know how he has gotten better so far since he's gotten in the league with the next player I want to talk about real fast and that being Kevin Herter. Now Herter's not having as good of a season as he was last year but he's still having a solid overall season for a role player he's putting up a couple really good games this year so far and he continues to be one of their elite perimeter uh three-point shooters in some games earlier in the season he really showed up and helped them you know get some wins in there like in the uh in-season tournament towards like the beginning I believe of November he had some really solid games like versus the Thunder the Cavs and the Lakers and helped put a cap on the W for the uh Kings to be able to win those games and I believe he was a really good pickup for them to get the other season and yeah now I want to move on over to Harrison Barnes who I believe has had a okay season some games he's pretty inconsistent like he'll go from dropping 39 points one week to dropping just nine the next like for example versus the Indiana Pacers who have one of the worst defenses in the league Harrison Barnes played 22 minutes in that game and only took two shots and he had you know one basket that whole game and one assist and one rebound and then the next game literally plays in 30 minutes and puts 32 points up against the Atlanta Hawks and then and then puts up 39 points against the Golden State Warriors just the next game right after but that's the one thing I would say that Harrison Barnes needs to work on this season is his inconsistencies as I believe it's been his biggest issue so far this year is I mean he only needs to drop like 10 points a game for him to be consistent in my eyes but now moving on over to the next player and that being Demantis Sabonis he's been a very solid contributor for this team so far this season I mean he's a guy that someone thought you know that should have made the all-star game people thought he got snubbed and he's definitely in my top five for guys that did get snubbed for that game because Sabonis has had some insane games this year like versus the Grizzlies when he had 26 rebounds and 20 points he's just a really insane player I mean overall he puts up so many stats on the stat sheet and every game so far this season he usually just shows how impressive what he is by dominating the glass he's able to make plays on the ball he's able to dime I mean he's sixth in the NBA when it comes to assist he's first in rebounding he's eighth in field goal percentage and although his defense definitely you know isn't the best among centers it definitely has improved this season so far and one thing I would say he needs to improve on is his turnovers because some games he'll get five plus turnovers and he just needs to try to minimize those but yes Sabonis is currently having a really good all-star caliber season and moving on to the last and final player that I'm going to be talking about and just going over real quick is De'Aaron Fox. De'Aaron Fox has had a really terrific season as he's averaging close to 27 points a game four rebounds and also getting 5.5 assist while shooting 46.4 percent from the field he's just had a exceptional year especially at the start of the season he was going crazy like in the month of November whenever he was playing he was averaging 30.4 points a game and he truly just couldn't be stopped and he's putting up some really good performances like that so far this season leading up to now but some games he has been kind of inconsistent but this man too is having another all-star type of year and if I'm being honest I think this is the best season that we have seen from Fox and yeah now that I've already done a rundown of some of like you know the main starters I kind of want to talk about the problems currently that the Kings are having and just kind of what's going wrong so I believe that the Sacramento Kings need a true third star on their team maybe even a second tier score behind De'Aaron and also the Kings defense as a whole unit has not been good this year at all as they currently allow the 21st most points in the league right now which is 118 points per game which is definitely nowhere near good enough especially if you want a title in the near future because their offensive production is not going to be able to catch up to how bad their defense truly is like for example this team is 28th in getting blocks in the league and also they're 30th in a three-point percentage allowed this season and moving on I believe that De'Aaron Fox he has way too much of a low for that backcourt and the bench outside of Malik Monk has just been totally garbage this year and they really just don't have any pieces besides Malik Monk obviously they have Chris Dorte, Trey Lyles and like Davion Mitchell and that's really about it I mean they have like Alex Lin and yeah man I just feel like this team is lacking so much depth honestly they should have traded for a star at the deadline in my opinion and yeah kind of like I said earlier towards the beginning of the vid every team has just gotten so much better and it feels like them after losing to the Warriors in the playoffs last year it really just doesn't feel like they made any real roster moves and I feel like De'Aaron Fox you know is a really good first option but Demonta Sabonis isn't that second tier score but he is a great center he's top five in my eyes for sure and Keegan Murray really isn't exactly championship ready yet so yeah I think they needed a true second score that they truly do need and it's just pretty sad to see how bad this bench really is I mean realistically Malik Monk is the only good one in my opinion and yeah there's just not much there besides him and yeah let me know down below in the comments what you guys think do you guys think the Kings will get things together and gain some momentum to come and become maybe like a sixth seed or better or do you guys think they'll fall into the play-in scene let me know down below what you guys think and as always make sure to like comment and subscribe and turn on post notifications and I'll see you on the next one I'm out
