Jono is making a YouTube video about Tyrese Maxie and the other players drafted before him in the 2020 NBA draft. He praises Maxie's skills and potential to be an MVP candidate. He then discusses the performances of Anthony Edwards, James Wiseman, LaMelo Ball, Patrick Williams, Isaac Okoro, Onyeka Okongwu, Killian Hayes, Obi Toppin, Deni Avdija, Jalen Smith, and Devin Vassell. Some players have lived up to expectations, while others have not. Yo, what's good YouTube? It's Jono and it's I know it's been a while since I uploaded last and I really haven't Started to get into this content on this channel and now I kind of want to dive into that So starting with the first video, I kind of want to do some stuff. That's more so like basketball related so in today's vid, I'm gonna be going over Tyrese Maxie and What happened to the you know, the other 20 people drafted in front of him, so let's get right into it So we all know Tyrese Maxie was drafted in 2020, you know a very great product coming out of Kentucky you know, Kentucky has a lot of great, you know players come out of their college and you know, he was just a very good guard coming out the gate and He's just really looks solid this season and now he's an all-star and this season he's been great He's been putting up 26 points per game played in 45 games then shooting 45% from the field He's been pretty efficient at the line as well and this season he's better than ever at being a playmaker and yeah Maxie just continues to show us why he is a Really solid young guard in this league and he has a potential to be a top 5 MVP front-runner someday for sure I kind of see him more so being like even like an SGA maybe Because I like his ability to finish at the rim and just being able to score just overall He also provides pretty solid defense as well But yeah, that's enough about Tyrese Maxie Let's start diving into some of these other guys that got drafted before him so the 2020 NBA draft definitely had a bunch of decent overall selections in it and all eyes headed into this draft were on really Anthony Edwards and lamello ball and At the number one spot The number one pick in this draft the Minnesota Timberwolves had selected Anthony Edwards out of Georgia and this man definitely lived up to the hype because he went on to average almost 20 points a game that rookie season and appeared in 72 games that Timberwolves played in and Averaged about 32 minutes a game where I said, he'd you know He averaged almost 20 points a game as a rookie and he just looked really great out there Helped his team get a bunch of wins and finished up the season becoming second place in the rookie of the year voting which I think he personally should have won over lamello and he was definitely worth the First overall choice in this draft because I mean he's proved it sing every single season in the past two seasons He's even made the all-star game both years and a man just continues to show us why he is a star in this league And I kind of just want to go ahead and move on to the second overall pick which was James Wiseman and coming out Of Memphis everyone thought that James Wiseman was going to be one of the best bigs, you know in the league potentially and he definitely did not live up to that because I mean he was putting up almost 20 points and 11 rebounds a game over in Memphis and That definitely didn't turn over into the NBA whenever he got drafted by the Warriors and he definitely was not worth that second overall pick Because whenever he did get drafted he averaged about 11 and a half points a game that season with the Warriors He appeared in just 39 games averaged 21.4 minutes per game and not even midway into that season James Wiseman went out with a Injury and had to get a surgery on his meniscus, which kept them out for a full extra season Which is honestly just horrible to see because the Warriors had one of the worst seasons just to get this man and It really didn't pay off at all now moving on a couple of seasons later Now he's in Detroit where he's appeared in 31 games and hasn't started a single one he's only playing in about 14 minutes a game there averaging 5.7 points per game and Averaging almost four rebounds and yeah This was just not the correct pick and it just went downhill from that injury But now moving on to that third overall pick that the Hornets had where they selected lamello ball he turned out to be a really good pick for this team and he had a really solid season and Throughout his career. He's averaged 20 points a game a little over six rebounds and 7.4 assist and in that first season that lamello did play in He went on to win rookie of the year over Anthony Edwards and he also made an all-star game appearance the season right after but lamello just continues to excel in this organization and Proves to us why he's a really good playmaker and just a really solid overall guard He's really elite and he's tall And which is really good in today's NBA for a guard just to be a little bit taller than the normal guards But if lamello can stay healthy, which he really hasn't within the past few seasons, especially this season He was out for quite some time and last season. He only played in 36 games of the Hornets season But overall he definitely lived up to the hype and that brings us to pick number four Which the Chicago Bulls ended up picking Patrick Williams out of Florida State and this is just another guy that I believe was not Worth this pick. I mean pick number four is kind of crazy for how he's played He's really just been stuck in the same spot each and every season. He's right around nine to ten points per game He really hasn't improved at all and in the 21 to 22 season He only appeared in 17 games and started nine of those and this season he has played You know about half the season and he does have to get like a little bit of surgery I believe on his foot right now But yeah He just hasn't done much and he was just not worth the fourth overall pick in this draft and the Bulls could have definitely got Someone better but moving on over to the fifth overall pick which the Cleveland Cavaliers had selected Isaac Akoro out of Auburn Now this may have not been the best overall pick especially at pick number five It may not have had the most value out of it But for this team, I mean, it's not bad currently at least as of right now Because you know, the Cavs really don't have a whole lot of wing defenders And this is really their just primary wing defenders Isaac Akoro and he just plays a huge part of this defense and he's really the only three and D player that they have and I just Don't think that he was worth the fifth overall pick, but he still does provide some decent overall value to this team But now let's move on over to the sixth overall pick that the Atlanta Hawks had selected on Yeka Okungwu out of USC where he's really just kind of been a backup pick and just a really just a shadow You know behind Clint Capella He's just someone that I thought would have had a better overall career and just more success than what he's had because he's been more so of just a guy who averages about nine to ten points per game and About seven rebounds as well And he is a decent overall rim protector as well to come off of the bench and he still does have some time left You know to grow and just get his career a little bit better I just don't think he's really lived up to the hype of being selected, you know, the sixth overall pick But that's just me and now I kind of want to move overall to the seventh overall pick Where the Detroit Pistons had selected Killian Hayes and he's definitely one of the worst players that I've went over so far And he hasn't proved anything besides that. He can play make a little bit and he's that's really it He's just a decent overall playmaker for this team and he just really cannot shoot the ball at all he's not efficient at all neither and he's really bad at shooting from behind the arc is Throughout his whole career. He's only been a 27% three-point shooter and his field goal percentage is terrible as well, especially for the amount of shots he puts up He doesn't put up a whole lot of shots per game and to have a field goal percentage that bad is really just terrible Now with the eighth overall pick in this draft the New York Knicks had selected Obie Toppin out of Dayton We're in his rookie season. He only averaged four points per game He played 62 games and only played in 11 minutes Average per you know every game that season and then just a few seasons later Ended up getting traded to the Indiana Pacers for him. He got traded for a two second second round picks I believe and this season he's been averaging almost 11 points per game for rebounds per game as well while shooting 56.7% from the field. He's been pretty efficient this season Especially with Halliburton as your guard at number nine The Washington Wizards had selected Dini Avijia from I believe overseas We're in his rookie season. He really didn't live up to any hype at all And he's just been more so just kind of a guy that averages, you know, right around, you know Ten plus points per game each and every season now and in his career He is averaging nine points a game, but this year he is doing it, you know doing things a little bit better He's filling the stat sheet up a bit more as well and I think he has just improved overall as his time being here Over in Washington. He's been putting up about 13 points per game and he's just honestly someone I expected to be You know a lot better than what he is Now next with the 10th overall pick the Phoenix Suns had selected Jalen Smith right out of Maryland where he was a pretty good overall player and Was averaging 15.5 points per game Averaging over 10 rebounds per game as well. He's just someone that I honestly I thought was gonna be better But now he's just a role player for this Pacers team and he's just another overall pretty good efficient score for this team Averaging about 11 points per game. He's played in 37 of the Pacers games this year And he's been like I said a solid overall role player for this team now next up with the 11th overall pick the San Antonio Spurs had selected Devin Vassell right out of Florida State where I'd say he's improved to a decent overall type of player for this team Pretty good young guy to have and he has improved each and every season pretty much except this season He hasn't improved much from his former season But he's just been a player that has made constant improvements to his game and he was one of the most improved players from last season So that brings me to the 12th overall pick where the Sacramento Kings had selected Tyrese Halliburton out of Iowa State Where he went on to score 13 points per game in his rookie season and was just an overall pretty good rookie He was a top three rookie in the class for sure especially that year and last season He got the all-star vote as well. Also, he was ranked. I believe sixth in the voting for MIP and Also this season now he's an all-star starter for the East but it's crazy That's how really good Tyrese Halliburton has become. He's become, you know, the best playmaker in the league I believe and best overall guard I would have to say from a playmaking perspective He is the best point guard in the league and he just helped transform this Pacers team to a really good You know just top six in the East type of team But now it brings me over to the 13th overall pick which was Keira Lewis who was selected by the New Orleans Pelicans Hasn't really proved anything in his career Never really got much of a shot But I mean he's never been good enough to really play and he's been only averaging 5.4 points in his career out of 119 games played and Has appeared in 16 games this season averaging 2.8 points per game I'm not really gonna talk much on him But he just really was not worth this pick and now that brings us to the 14th Overall pick where the Celtics had chose Aaron Neesmith out of Vanderbilt He was one of the best shooters coming out of college out of Vanderbilt And he really didn't prove much whenever he was on the Celtics and then he ended up getting traded for Malcolm Brogdon and now he has more of an opportunity to kind of prove himself and he kind of has this season as He's been putting on a lot better of a performance and just had a bunch more of playing time as well being on this team So that brings us to pick number 15, which is Cole Anthony who was selected by the Orlando Magic now Cole Anthony kind of reminded me of you know, Tyrese Maxey coming out of college with just a little bit more athleticism And now he may not be what Maxie currently is He has shown some type of potential in this league of why he can be a pretty solid guard But that brings us now to pick number 16, which was Isaiah Stewart who was selected by the Detroit Pistons And honestly, I don't think it was really that bad overall of a pick because they have so many centers going in and out of the rotation So obviously his stats ain't gonna be that crazy But he's just been a pretty, you know good overall type of big to have on a team now that brings us to pick number 17 where the Timberwolves had selected Poco Sheskey where his size was definitely intriguing because Whenever they drafted him, he was a 7 foot 190 pound, you know forward Which was a very interesting type of build to have and was you know I think one of the youngest players on this draft and he definitely really hasn't lived up to much of anything Especially this season which had Holmgren in that lineup I don't think he's really gonna see much time on this team at least, you know for right now now this brings us to pick number 18 where the Dallas Mavericks had selected Josh Green right out of Arizona and Green's defense was really the reason why the Mavericks chose him over Tyrese Maxie and that was just a you know A key need for this Mavericks team was the defense and he showed in his third year Why he can be such an excellent perimeter shooter and he definitely approved on it now with the 19th overall pick the Brooklyn Nets had selected Sadiq Bae who they had quickly traded to the Detroit Pistons where he was pretty valuable over the seasons that he did play there at the first few and Then he ended up getting traded over to the Atlanta Hawks Where he's been a you know a key piece for the team and it's kind of crazy that the Detroit Pistons could have selected Tyrese Maxie with all three of their picks in this first round, but they passed on him But now that brings us to the final pick before Maxie where the Miami Heat had selected Precious Ochoa from Memphis and he was really just a you know overall shadow behind BAM out of bio for his first year and did end up getting traded by the Or to the Toronto Raptors because the Miami Heat really didn't feel a need to have him there and they really just needed a guard So they traded him and that Kyle Lowry Trade package that they had done and it really just would have been smarter to take Maxie Instead of doing all this because they really needed a guard and obviously with the 21st overall pick the Philadelphia 76ers had took a chance on Tyrese Maxie where he has proved to be everything that they wanted out of him and Even more because now he's an all-star and he's a guy that's putting up 26 points per game even with Joel Embiid on the floor and he's just constantly improving and continuously proving to be a better player year in and year out and Let me know down below what you guys think of this video.
