of the Holy Spirit A gift with gift Since this past third Sunday, a month and a Sunday ago We have done as much as possible To bring some knowledge, additional knowledge to the body of Christ Concerning the person and work of the Holy Spirit For the most part, our denominational churches Not just ours, but many of what we understand to be mainline denominations Baptist, Methodist, Episcopal, Church of God and the like Many of them do not deal with the power in their doctrinal pursuits of the Holy Spirit Amen We spend quite a bit of time talking about the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost But most of the time we don't delve into the power of the Holy Spirit Amen You do realize that you can talk about Pentecost and still not embrace the promise of power that came at Pentecost Many scholars will stand on Pentecost Sunday and take a text from Acts chapter 2 And it will be biblically in order and talk about the birth of the church in the earth realm And the Lord did establish the church on the day of Pentecost Amen I need a little help, I just need a little help Amen But not only did he establish the church on the day of Pentecost But he put power in the believer on the day of Pentecost Not only did he establish the church, he put a church in every believer Many times when we study the New Testament we study it with a European mind When we talk about the church we immediately think about bricks and mortar We think about pews and cushions, choirs and pulpits But in Acts chapter 2 none of that was present I need some help here Amen, when the Holy Ghost came he didn't come to build a building He didn't come to establish an organization He came and established a living organism the old preacher would say Amen, he brought power to the believer Now to talk about a pre-Calvary scripture concerning Pentecost might seem a little off Because when we read in John chapter 16 Jesus is on his way to the cross I need some help here this morning Jesus is on his way to die Not to mention having been ascended and 50 days later returned in the person of the Holy Ghost Amen, but in John chapter 14, 15, 16 and on to chapter 17 Is Jesus' farewell discourse Oh you listen, John chapter 14 Jesus said let not your heart be troubled He's telling the boys I'm getting ready to go to the cross He said I've got to go and I've got to die Amen, you remember Peter said Lord be it far from me don't start talking about dying And Jesus said get behind me Satan He said you're talking about things concerning men You're not talking about the things of God I've got to go and number one I've got to pay the ransom for the sin and debt of mankind How are you going to pay it Jesus, I'm going to pay it with my own blood Amen, I'm going to shed innocent blood for a guilty people and I'm on my way Hallelujah, I'm going to die for the sins of humanity And Jesus explains to the fellas that I've got to go Amen, and I won't leave you comfortless Amen, he said I won't leave you Some of your newer translations will say I won't leave you as an orphan Amen, he said I'm going to pray to the father And he's going to send another comforter And Jesus said when he comes Discerning of spirit All of these are gifts In manifestation Now you can covet the best gifts But the gifts Are administered By the Holy Ghost He does the choosing We don't have a choice About the
