The speaker, Ben Yuen, discusses non-green behavior and its impact on the environment. Examples of non-green behavior include forgetting to turn off lights and air conditioners when not needed, not properly recycling items, and using air conditioners inefficiently. These actions waste energy, contribute to global warming, and fill up landfills. Ben encourages listeners to visit his organization's website to learn more about green behavior and emphasizes the need to save the environment. Book 6B, Module 1, Practice 1. You will have 30 seconds to study the questions. The recordings will be played only once. Elaine is listening to a talk about non-green behaviour. Good afternoon, boys and girls. I am Ben Yuen, and I am a volunteer of a green organisation in Hong Kong. Today, I am going to talk about non-green behaviour. Non-green behaviour means actions that harm the environment. One example of that is forgetting to turn off the lights and the air conditioner when you don't need them. A lot of energy is wasted. Since electricity companies burn coal to produce electricity, we make the earth hotter and hotter when we waste energy. Another kind of non-green behaviour is throwing away items that we can recycle. Many people just throw everything into rubbish bins. Others don't know much about recycling. Therefore, some dirty cans and plastic bottles are not washed before they are thrown into recycling bins. We cannot recycle them unless they are clean, and they usually go to landfills. Our landfills are becoming full. Finally, you must use air conditioners wisely. Hong Kong is quite hot in summer. Some people turn their air conditioners up to make themselves cool. They may even turn on their air conditioners all the time. That's not green, because air conditioners use a lot of energy. It uses even more energy when you turn it up. Therefore, you should follow the government's advice and keep your air conditioner's temperature at 25.5 degrees Celsius. When it is not too hot, you should turn it off. If you are interested in knowing more about green and non-green behaviour, you can visit my organisation's website. Unless we try our best to save the environment, the earth will soon become very sick. So please, help save the earth. Thank you. This is the end of practice one.
