Highways in Chicago have pros and cons. Pros include faster transportation, connecting families, and easier access to services. However, there are negative effects, especially for small neighborhoods. Disadvantages include noise, traffic, and safety concerns. Accidents and non-compliance with rules are common. Traffic is a major issue, causing backups in neighborhoods not designed for heavy traffic. Highways have advantages but also drawbacks and can be dangerous for residents. Welcome to today's episode of Simon's Station. Today we are going to talk about the pros and cons of having highways in Chicago. The pros of highways are mentioned often, but the only con people really mention is the traffic. What most people don't know is that it has many negative effects, especially on small neighborhoods. One pro of highways in Chicago is that people can get to places faster, especially if the highway is close to their house. Another pro is that it helps connect people to their families because they can drive all over Chicago fairly quickly. One final pro is that it is easier to get services to help keep things clean and working. Now we'll be back after this from State Farm. Our game plan boils down to one word, bundle home and auto. But that's four words. Not if you bundle them! Call or click for a quote today. Now we will hear from a person who has had first-hand experience with highways by their house. It's so nice to have you here with us, Maya. It's so nice to be here. What's your general opinion of having a highway in your neighborhood? It's nice for transportation and convenience through traveling through the city. But it's also really noisy and there's lots of helicopters and trucks and trucks. What's the worst thing about it? Probably the trucks. Because it doesn't happen all that often. It is very annoying when trucks turn off the highway into our neighborhood and block off all the streets because they don't fit in said streets. And no one likes it or gets used to it. Ever. Can you tell me about the other disadvantages of living by a highway? Is the rest just minor annoyances or actually safety concerns for the people living there? Some of it is just minor inconvenience like the noise from all the cars and the traffic. Others can actually cause harm to residents just like when cars come from the highway and don't obey the rules of the road such as speed limits and stop times. Have you ever seen something happen to one of the pedestrians in your area because of this? I've never actually seen someone get hit by a car. But I've seen lots of accidents around the intersections between the highways and the major roads like Montrose and Wilson. I've also had a couple of experiences when I've seen a car almost hit a person because they didn't follow the rules like stop signs. Actually, a car almost hit anyone because they did not stop at the stop. It looks like there's a lot more disadvantages of highways than people think. Earlier you mentioned something about traffic. Could you elaborate a little bit more on that? Of course. As I mentioned, I live in an area where a lot of cars turn off the highways. This causes lots of traffic and backups in my neighborhood which is not made for cars to be driving through it a lot. Especially with all the current construction going on on the highways, I can sit in traffic for like five minutes straight on a single bus. Wow. I learned a lot about the cons of highways today. That'll do it for our interview. We'll be back after this message from State Farm. I don't know who this is Jake from State Farm. Just imagine! Mahomes and Ma'ato! Best bundle in the league, baby! Why can't he change his name? We could be Kelsey and Kelsey how much he can save by bundling home and auto. If you make the letters smaller. Come on, Ma'ato, let's get it! Put your jersey on! Bundling is just another way to save with a personal price plan. Call or click for a quote today. Welcome back everyone! Today we discovered there are both advantages and disadvantages to having highways in your neighborhood. So yeah, what? Highways are helpful for transportation of goods and allow people to get around the city more easily. They're also dangerous and can cause accidents and traffic in small neighborhoods. That's going to do it for today, folks. We'll see you in the next episode of Simon Station. Peace!
