Smoking is a major issue in Jordan, causing health problems and premature death. The smoke pollutes the air and affects even non-smokers, especially children. Over 40% of the population smokes, and the rate is increasing due to peer pressure and societal influence. Smoking is often seen as a family tradition, but it leads to diseases like lung cancer and shortens lifespan by 40-50%. It is difficult to convince people to quit due to easy access to cigarettes. Smoking is not restricted in public places, and people who don't smoke are often labeled as boring. Children are particularly at risk when exposed to secondhand smoke. Instead of trying to change individuals one by one, anti-smoking campaigns and movements should be promoted. Limiting cigarette production and creating awareness are important. The goal is to have clean air and good health for everyone. you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you hello guys my name is Damon Larroas today we'll be talking about the issues when it comes to smoking within Jordan I'll be talking about the causes and the effects of smoking and how to prevent it first off how are you guys doing today I'm doing pretty good myself that being said smoking is a big problem in Jordan it creates health problems and causes many lives to be lost also the air wouldn't be safe to breathe at all due to the smoke clearing up the air so it's basically like inhaling the nicotine yourself even if you're not smoking and this is dangerous especially when it comes to kids who have much weaker lungs than adults and one more thing according to a study from 2011 more than 6 out of 10 males in Jordan smoke that's more than 40 percent of the population not to mention that the smoker rate is increasing day by day due to peer pressure and the fact that people have you know seen people smoke out in the street and whatnot seeing their friends smoke and whatnot so they're obviously convinced by the society around them or the environment around them that smoking isn't necessarily a good thing but it's passed on like a family tradition and this is bad since a lot of the time when people smoke and whatnot they get it passed down from let's just say their uncles and whatnot they're inspired and not necessarily inspired but they feel like they have to do it since their uncle and their grandpa and their father's doing it this is wrong because first of all what's why would you harm their lungs for the sake of others and number two it's known obviously known that people who smoke tend to get diseases such as cancer so most specifically lung cancer and their lifespan is shortened by 40 to 50 percent and this is basically the one thing that people should always try to avoid they should always try to avoid you know getting their life cut short we should always try to avoid smoking in general so with that being said instead of sort of trying to copy or not necessarily copy but use or do the same thing as let's just say a family member is doing how about you try to convince them to stop it before you know it's too late and a lot of the time you know it's really hard to do this because even if you were to tell them to stop they couldn't even if they tried because the fact that Jordan has so many like it has unlimited cigarette capacity when it comes to let's just say supermarkets because so let's just say if you want to you know prevent yourself from smoking you're obviously going to get tempted once you see let's just say a cigarette the problem is you can't avoid it because everywhere you look if you want to go into the supermarket if you want to go into the supermarket let's say the first thing you're going to see is a cigarette and there's obviously insanely insanely insanely detrimental to you know a person's well-being especially when they're trying to avoid what you're selling the cigarettes from a supermarket and a supermarket isn't meant to sell you know things that harm your body they're meant to sell chips food things that are supposed to sort of nurture the body but it is instead replaced by things that harm our bodies and this is something that is incredibly detrimental to you know Jordanian public and another thing whenever like let's just say a tourist were to go he's from America let's just say and he wants to go to Western Berlin obviously he's not looking for you know Jordanian cigarettes he's looking to see the culture and the problem is we're giving a bad reputation towards ourselves we're basically sabotaging our own reputation we're making people think the western society think that we're dirty people and all we do is smoke cigarettes all day although this isn't even the case really all we have to do is you know limit the production of cigarettes limit the use of cigarettes like let's just say there's smoking areas and non-smoking areas and this is a big problem in Jordan because a lot of the time smoking isn't really restricted a lot like let's just say in the bus you're able to smoke you know in a car nobody's gonna tell you or a lot of the time let's just say you're riding you're gonna go into a taxi a lot of times and I know this for a fact that a lot of the time you or let's just say a relative of yours whenever they enter a taxi they're not gonna ask the uber or the driver to you know turn off his vape or to stop smoking but they're gonna focus on getting their ride and they're constantly inhaling the vapor of the you know vapor let's just say the smoke from the cigarette but they don't mind but you know they're not bothered by it because they're so used to it um we shouldn't get used to seeing cigarettes out in public like this we shouldn't get used to having to smell to have to smell nicotine and tobacco every single day but the problem is a lot of people who are in the minority who don't smoke are usually labeled as people who don't have fun a lot of the time people who smoke or people who you know um do hook up hook up or get it a lot of the time they think they want to have fun and if you were to warn them about this product they'd obviously call you let's just say like somebody who doesn't like having fun and while that's not the case the people who they saw smoke told them this and the person you know so it came in sort of like a family cycle like i said so another thing it can also you know when i said that once you inhale vapors like once you inhale the smoke when you're out in public even while smoking as if you're smoking a cigarette this is incredible this is incredibly dangerous especially when it comes to children who have bigger lungs like i said because let's just say when you play a sport your oxygen is going to be really limited you're going to actually run out of breath at some point because you're around people who smoke and you're not going to prevent that because people are just going to call you weird for it and people aren't going to listen to you since you're a child so what i think you should do instead of going out of your way and trying to encourage them to stop because obviously people who are around you won't listen if you just tell them to stop smoking what you have to do is release and like anti-smoking campaign anti-smoking ads anti-smoking movements around your community around your school to further convince the smokers to sort of back down or you know stop or minimize smoking also we can you know maybe make a petition or try convincing people around your neighborhood or people around a man in general um by the use of social media to attempt to limit the production of smoking we're not looking to harm our bodies we're not looking to harm you know our good health what we want you know being massively produced would be like water and whatnot but we don't need cigarettes to be massively produced because we want our air to be clean we want you know our family members to be in good health and whatnot and we want to have good lungs like every time you run you don't have to get a gas for oxygen with that being said i hope that this podcast did you well that this podcast had changed your perspective on smoking in a good way obviously and i have one last question before i go and that question is if i were if or if you were to show an anti-smoking you know campaign or an anti-smoking video in general and if you frequently sort of try to convince people around you to stop smoking do you think that they would change their mind do you think that if you constantly inform them about the dangers of smoking do you think that they change their mind if i showed them if you showed them this podcast and if you showed them you know all insane amounts of information provided by Britannica and UNSF you think all of these little you know pieces of information do you think this will convince your family members do you well um i guess you can tell me if you ever you know want to send me an email but other than that i hope you guys have a good day and goodbye
