The Newcastle Earthquake occurred on December 28, 1989, at 10:27 am. It was caused by changes in tectonic forces resulting from underground coal mining over 200 years. The earthquake caused significant damage, with 50,000 buildings affected and cracks in the ground. There were a total of 13 fatalities, with nine at the Newcastle Workers' Club and three on Beaumont Street. Additionally, 160 people were hospitalized, 1,000 were left homeless, and 300 buildings had to be demolished. The Newcastle Earthquake was on the 28th of December in 1989 at 10.27am. Things started forming in houses and from shelves. Nine people died at the Newcastle Workers' Club, three people were killed in Beaumont Street, Hamilton and one person died of shock. The epicentre was in Boreau.
