Nothing to say, yet
The speaker initially didn't have education in mind for their future career. However, through various experiences at the Boys and Girls Club, they realized that education was their calling. They had the opportunity to attend career fairs, field trips, and listen to guest speakers, which opened their eyes to the importance of teaching. They also worked as a junior staffer at Camp Kiwanis, where they learned valuable skills while overseeing children. These experiences shaped them into the future educator they aspire to be. They were inspired by their own teachers and the belief that actions speak louder than words. They are excited to embark on their education journey and see what lies ahead. I can say from the start I didn't have education in mind when I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I found myself as many things and there definitely wasn't education. I wanted to be a neonatal nurse, a pediatrician, and even a nurse in aid. Even though I had it in mind that a neonatal nurse was what I would attend school for, life had other plans. I grew up from the ages of 6 to 18 going to an after school program called the Boys and Girls Club. There I was allowed the opportunity to really see what my path would be. I got to attend career fairs, field trips, and even have guest speakers come and talk to us, which at that time I didn't know that education would be my path. Later on, by the time I was 10 years old, I knew education was what I wanted to be and by that I got to help teach others and teach myself. I was able to help with homework, helping in the art room, in the computer lab, and even in the gym. It really shaped that teaching is a very, very important tool. I also attended a camp called Camp Kiwanis that was affiliated with the Boys and Girls Club. There I worked as a junior staffer and helped oversee about 10 kids. I got to show them how to build a tent, how to swim, learn how to roast marshmallows, and even learn how to kayak. Those experiences really shaped who I am today and who I hope to become as a future educator. It's been an amazing opportunity to have these experiences in my life to show me that teaching was my calling. As well, growing up in school, I had amazing teachers and that also showed me that that's definitely what I want to do. As well as having teachers tell me that I can do anything when I put my mind to it, my family telling me that it's better to show somebody who you are than just words. With that, I hope that I can show my future teachers and students with actions than just words. And I'm very, very excited to go on my education journey and see what life has for me.
