I created my garment to represent the effects of global warming. Global warming is the long-term warming of the planet's temperature. Oceans have been getting warmer, causing coral bleaching and sea animals shifting habitats up north seeking cooler waters. Also, the leading cause of global warming is us. There are actions we can take for a healthier planet, but ironically it starts with us. Driving eco-friendly cars, recycling, switching to energy efficient appliances, and being intentional with what we eat. With these themes in mind, I sewed my own blazer and pants. I chose to do all black to show how easy it is to turn a blind eye to this matter. I used orange, yellow, and red flowers on the shoulder pads of my blazer to represent the urgency of global warming. I heat pressed vinyl in the shape of flames onto the cuffs of my pants and blazer as a metaphor to show that just by standing still, climate change won't go away. My mask is two toned, blue and orange. The blue represents life and the hope for a healthy planet. The orange represents fire, heat, and most importantly, us. The ones who have contributed to climate change. Let's do better. Mahalo.
