This is episode one of a two-part series on the Israel vs. Hamas war. It is an ongoing conflict between Israel and the Hamas-led Palestinian militia groups. The war was caused by a disagreement over territory, primarily in the Gaza Strip but also in the West Bank and Israel-Lebanon border. The conflict has been going on for years but has recently escalated. Both Israel and Hamas have allies and powerful armies supporting them. The host emphasizes the need for caution as we don't know what resources the other side has. Hey guys, and welcome back to Global Perspectives by HHA. My name is Julia and I will be your host. I'm here with Addison and Kylie, your co-hosts. Hey guys! Hey! This is episode one of two, and our topic today is the Israel vs. Hamas war. So, to get started, I have one question. What is the Israel vs. Hamas war? Yeah, I was kind of, like, wondering about that. Okay, so basically, it's an ongoing armed conflict between Israel and the Hamas-led Palestinian militia groups. Oh, so it's basically the next World War II? Oh my gosh, Addison! Well, not necessarily. World War II was sparked by the 1939 Nazi invasion of Poland. The war dragged on for about six years until the Allies defeated the Axis powers of Nazi Germany, Japan, and Italy in 1945. Oh! Whereas the Israel vs. Hamas war was caused by a disagreement over territory. Yeah, that's what I thought, but where has it been happening? I'm pretty sure it has been taking place chiefly and around the Gaza Strip since October... 7th? October 7th, 2023, with clashes also taking place in the West Bank and Israel-Lebanon border. Yeah, that's right. Okay, so next question. Kylie? Yeah, um, why is this, like, happening? So, the Arabs resisted, seeing that the land was rightfully theirs, where an early United Nations plan to give each group part of the land failed, and the Israel and the surrounding Arab nations fought several wars over the territory. That makes a lot more sense. Wait, wait, wait, so all this over loss of land? Kind of, but it's been an ongoing conflict over many years, but has recently escalated. Yeah, but how do we not know that there are other countries involved? So, we do know that both countries have allies. For Israel, it's the United States, Australia, Norway, Germany, Canada, Spain, and even Europe. And there's a lot more, too, whereas the Hamas is Hezbollah, Houthis, Pesaro Front, Islamic Jihad, PFLP, DFLP, Einstein, and a lot of popular mobilization forces. Oh, so both countries have quite a few powerful armies on their sides. Yeah, that's what it sounds like. That's very true, which is why we have to be careful, because we never know who or what the other side of the war has to help them fight. Yeah, Russia is very powerful. You for sure don't want to mess with them. And that's a wrap. See you next time on Global Perspectives.
