Join Nasir and Mommy on another bedtime adventure! Tonight we are reading "When I Grow Up" by Mike Berenstain.
Nasir and his friend are starting their own podcast called Nasir's Storytime. They are inspired by Mr. Matt's Storytime on Spotify. They read a book called "When I Grew Up" by Berenstain Beard, which is about career day at school. Sister and Brother Bear explore different jobs they could have when they grow up, such as firefighters, police officers, pilots, construction workers, and farmers. They also learn about artistic careers like painting and acting. At the end, they realize that being a parent is an important job too. The episode ends with a reminder to choose the right job and have fun with it. Hey, welcome to Nasir's Storytime. Say hi, Nasir. Hi. What do you like to read? Mr. Matt's Storytime. Mr. Matt's Storytime. Shout out to Mr. Matt's Storytime. Mr. Matt's Storytime. You can find Mr. Matt on Spotify. He's our favorite. He's actually our inspiration behind why we're starting our own podcast, to read little children's books. So today, we're gonna read a book by Berenstain Beard, When I Grew Up. Are you excited? What do you see on this? Um, him, her, him, her, him, her, him, her, him, her, All right. When I Grew Up. Now come with us and you shall see the many things that you can be. It was career day at the big country school. Mom, dad, grandparents, uncles and aunts were teaching students all about their jobs. Papa Bear showed his woodworking skill. Mama displayed her quilts and told about her foot shop. Two tall Grizzlies dad, Two Ton, explained how he ran a junk yard with his wife, Tutu. Grizzly Gramps and Gramps performed their old tap dancing routine. Finally, Ferdie Factual's uncle, Professor Actual Factual, told them about being a scientist. He showed them his telescope for studying the stars. He showed them his microscope for studying tiny germs. He did a chemistry experiment that made a bad smell. Ew. Ew, nasty. He showed them real fossils from a dinosaur dig. It was all very interesting. As the cubs walked home after school, sister was thoughtful. Brother, she said, do you know what you want to be when you grow up? Sure, he said, bouncing a soccer ball off his head. A soccer star. A soccer rocker. Bounce, bounce, bounce. But sister wasn't so sure. She had many interests. Books, music, nature, science, art, and art. Yummy ice cream truck. Ooh, that's not an ice cream truck. I'm gonna tell you what that is. She could be almost anything. As they walked, Professor Actual Factual and nephew, Ferdie, jumped by in an actual factual mobile. This is not an ice cream truck. It's an actual factual mobile. Let's see what that is. Hello, Professor. Hello, Ferdie, said brother and sister. Would you like a lift, asked Professor. You can use my cell phone to ask your mom and dad. Thank you, they said. Ask your mom and dad. And called mama and papa before climbing aboard. How do you like career day? Asked the professor. Did it give you any ideas about what you'd like to be when you grow up? Yes, said sister. Too many. I don't know if we want to be, maybe an animal, maybe a wolf. A wolf? When you grow up, you're gonna be a wolf? What about a wolf trainer or a veterinarian, a wolf doctor? You wanna be a wolf doctor? No, I'm gonna be just a wolf with sharp claws. With sharp claws. All right, we'll figure out how to turn you into a wolf, all right? Just for Halloween. Just for Halloween? Yeah. Okay. How did you like career day? Asked the professor. Did it give you any ideas about what you'd like to be when you grow up? Yes, said sister. Too many. There are so many jobs to choose from. Good point, said the professor. Maybe we should take a tour of Bear Country to learn about different kinds of jobs. That would be great, said sister. Sounds like fun, said brother. One actual factual job tour coming up, said the professor, picking up his phone to okay the trip with mama and papa. Now look around, he said. What sorts of jobs do you see? Carpenter, painter, mail carrier, cook. Everyone is hard at work. Whoa. What job looks the fun out of this picture? That, that, that, and that. Isabella's pizza, being a construction worker, being a mailman, or being a house painter. I think those are all pretty cool jobs, too. I do a mailman pizza. A house painter? What color would you paint mommy's house? That, that, and that. Tell me what the colors are. Pink, white, and, and. Brown? Brown! Brown. I didn't think it was colored like that. All right, I think I would like a pink, brown, and white house. Let's do it. Oh, oh, I, I said, I go, I'm gonna be that. What's that? Hey, guys, we need to go to jail. A police officer putting people in jail? Let's think about that one. Uh-oh, said the professor, rounding a bend. What's all this? Wow, said the cubs, a fire. Fire trucks, police cars, and ambulances blocked the way. Smoke was coming from a building. I didn't see that. Yeah, she got a boo-boo. Say, said the professor, you might be a firefighter. You could ride on a big red truck and save lives. You might even save someone's pet. Look, they're saving the bird and the doggy. I'm, I'm sure no one will mind if they get a little bit wet. Or you could be a police bear, or an emergency worker, and keep everyone safe. You think you wanna be a police wolf? Yeah, I wanna be a police wolf. Okay, I think we can do that. Whoa, they drove past the Bear Country Airport. I know you're really into airplanes, brother. You too, sister, said the professor. If your dream is flying, you could be an airplane pilot and fly a jumbo jet. Or you could fly even higher and really go some places. Yeah, out of space, to be exact. You could be an astronaut. Why that can fly in the air? Because it's a spaceship. It's not a spaceship. It's a, maybe it is a spaceship. It has rockets at the bottom to blast off into space. You could be an astronaut and blast off on a rocket to the stars. I think the rocket's cute. Yeah. The professor and the cubs passed a construction site where giant dump trucks and earth movers were digging and plowing, pushing and piling. On the other hand, said the professor, you may decide to keep your feet on the ground and try on a hard hat and some mega machines through their paces. Now there's a job you could really dig, a job you could really dig, he added with a chuckle. Do you see some excavators, some tractors, some hauling trucks? Yeah. They drove into the countryside past Farmer Ben's farm. Farming is a very important job, he said. Farmers grow their food that we eat. Without them, we may starve. Uh-oh, no food in that hungry belly. Wow, said the cubs. They had never thought about Farmer Ben like that before. Farmers grow all of our wheat and corn, our vegetables and fruit. They raise farm animals like sheep, goat, pigs, chickens, ducks, and turkeys. Look, I see a pig. A pig, yeah. Where's that pig? Don't worry about it. He's probably trying to eat something. Farmers work all day plowing plants, weeding, and harvesting. And, he added, they still have time to milk the cows. Who do you see milking the cow? Me or Osa? You're funny. Let's move a little faster, said the professor. We may have many more jobs to learn about. He pulled a lever and a big propeller popped out of the actual factual mobile. They took off and flew across Bear Country. They flew over Big Bear High School. They saw teachers in their classrooms and coaches with their teams. They flew over Grizzly Medical Center. They saw doctors, nurses, dentists, and other health workers. They flew over downtown Gregory Town. They saw shopkeepers, delivery bears, plumbers, sign workers, bus drivers, mechanics, road crews, and repair bears all busily at work. Perhaps, said the professor as they flew on, you are more the artistic type. Maybe an artist's life is a life for you. You could paint pictures or become an artist. You could act on stage, dance in a ballet, play in an orchestra, or sing in an opera. There are many interesting and important jobs to be done, said the professor as he turned the actual factual mobile towards home. Can I talk to him? Yeah, talk. Hi. But there's more, there's one more important job to learn. I love you too, Bear. They flew lower over a neighborhood of family homes. It's the job of being a parent, a mom, or a dad. That may be the most important job there is. The professor landed in the backyard of the Bear's family treehouse. The big propeller folded back into the actual factual mobile. Brother and sister climbed down and waved goodbye. Goodbye, called the professor as he and Bertie drove away. I hope you enjoyed our big country job tour. When you think about what you wanna be when you grow up, just remember this little rhyme. So many different jobs to be done. Just choose the right one and work can be fun. The end. The end. Thank you guys for listening to our first episode. Nazzy, say bye. Bye. Thank you so much, and we'll join you for another nighttime recording. Sweet dreams, everyone.
