The author discusses their frustration with how people perceive their cultural identity as an Asian. They are tired of hearing stereotypes and insensitive comments about their race, such as asking if they eat dogs. These experiences have made them feel ashamed of their background and heritage. They mention seeing negative comments on social media about someone eating a traditional Asian food called Balut, which highlights the ongoing discrimination. The author hopes for a future where Asians no longer face this kind of pain and everyone feels loved. Welcome back to my blog. On today's episode, I will look closely at things that make me frustrated about how people perceive my cultural identity. To me, the thing that makes me most confused and frustrated is when facing other people's consumption and stereotypes about my race as an Asian. I'm tired of hearing people saying, do you eat dogs? Or is there anything you don't eat? When seeing us eating something that's unique to our culture, it is very disrespectful and can make others feel ashamed of their background, heritage, and identity. I remember feeling extremely ashamed of the foods my mom packed for school when I was younger, simply because a person just came up to me and said that my food smells weird. I believe these experiences were not subjective. It is rather an experience that I've found many facing. In fact, just this evening, I was surfing on social media and found this girl eating Balut. I never anticipated such hatred and disrespect when seeing the comments being filled with people shaming the food that she's eating. Personally, it's such a shame that even when society is modernized, people still find a way to foster discrimination. In the future, I hope that no other Asians will face this type of pain as we create a healthier society where everyone is loved and feels loved.
