Nothing to say, yet
The slide focuses on the common words teachers use to describe students in poverty. Most of the words are negative, such as loud, rebellious, and stubborn. However, there are a few positive words like curious and talkative. These words shouldn't be seen as a reflection of every student in poverty, as they perpetuate stereotypes. It's important to avoid these stereotypes and discuss them further. So, on this slide, I mainly focused on the most common words that teachers use to describe students that are living in poverty, and as you'll see, these words on the list are pretty negative. There are a few words that they use to describe the students that were good, such as curious and talkative, outspoken, so not all the words are negative, but for the majority part, they are negative. So, most of the words that teachers use to describe the poverty-stricken students are loud, rebellious, show-off, stubborn, sulky, touchy, distrustful, irresponsible, prejudiced, indifferent, outspoken, talkative, temperamental, withdrawn, fussy, invasive, curious, and argumentative. Now, these words are how the teachers describe their students that are in poverty, but these words do not mean every student is going to act like this, that's living in poverty. This is the stereotype that we deal with, because not all students in poverty are going to show the same characteristics. So, we need to focus on not continuing our stereotypes for our future students, and we will discuss more about stereotypes in the next few minutes.
