Talk: 19880323-Larry_Rosenberg-UNK-samadhi_in_action-1548 Leandra Tejedor (1) Start_time: 50:03 Display_question: I am wondering if I am being meditative in my walking practice when I walk at a normal pace? Keyword_search: walking meditation, pay attention, awareness, sensations, Thailand, wakefulness, mind, body, calm, reflections, impermanence Question_content: Questioner: Well, this, this time I decided to walk more normally. I walk quickly a lot more than I have in the past, and I've handled difficulty with…. it's so different than really slow walking, because with really slow walking it's very…it’s kind of easy to pay attention, because you're going so slow. And what I found, I guess I just wanted to check this out, was it seems like the awareness is, on a kind of grosser level, where you know I can feel the impact, say of the foot, but I'm not as consciously aware of the arms moving, at the same time as, when it's slow. And so, I wasn't really sure if I was being meditative about my walking, as much. Larry: Yeah, you can’t…when you're walking at a rapid rate, you're not going to have as precise sensations, but it doesn't mean that that isn’t valuable. The key thing is, did you retain your wakefulness? Now also, just so you understand the richness of walking meditation, one way is to pay attention to the sensations in the feet, or the legs, or the whole body, eventually, when it becomes easy to do. But you can do… in some schools. Break_line: For example, in Thailand they'll do walking meditation, where you're not really so interested in the body at all. You're just watching the mind directly, while you're walking. But I wouldn't try that until you really feel very calm, or you can be doing certain reflections. You can be setting a theme for yourself, like impermanence, and just seeing that, no matter how you're walking. End_time: 51:38
