Nurses need to be educated that unsafe patient to staff ratio is not normal and should not be accepted in hospitals. Families should also be educated about this issue outside of the hospital. It is important to discuss this matter in public forums and with healthcare organizations to bring attention to the problem and implement national policies for safe nursing staff ratios in hospitals. Some education factors that can come into play is, I think, out of nursing school, nurses should be taught that an unsafe patient to staff ratio is not normal, and it's not something that should be accepted whenever you get into the hospital setting. Also, educating families outside of the hospital about this problem. You don't want this to be done in the hospital. You don't want to be telling people how the hospital is out of safe ratio. But bringing this up at the dinner table or at your public forums can be a good way to spread this problem around and hopefully shine a better light to it. Finally, talking to organizations that are in healthcare, like nursing organizations, and hopefully getting this topic on the national scale to where there can actually be policies put in place to give us rules in every hospital on what the safe nursing staff ratio or staff to patient ratio should be.
