Sri Lanka was originally colonized by the British East India Company and called Seyon. The Dutch were occupying the land, so the British had to find another way to colonize it. The settlement was important for providing the British with a flank and preventing further territorial loss or gain. The Treaty of Amiens led to changes in the social structure and a capitalist government. The British eventually retreated under the command of Prime Minister Herbert Henry Asquith. All right, good afternoon, everyone. This is Pachinko Switchday. I'm talking about the decolonization of Sri Lanka. This not only includes how it was decolonized, but also how it was originally founded, and who had owned the area of land for the longest period of time. Originally set out, Sri Lanka was colonized by the British East India Company, and they called it Seyon. The conquest was during the French Revolution between 1792 and 1801 when the Netherlands came under French control. However, during the conservative colonization attempts, they saw that the Dutch were currently occupying the land, meaning that they had to find another way, of which they decided to go through India and up into Sri Lanka. The importance of this settlement was to provide the British with a flank or a outside settlement for their nation, or to prevent this war from occurring, from more territories being lost or gained. This was known as the Treaty of Amiens, which after many changes to the social structure was being changed to a capitalist government, and the removal of a listed hierarchy, the cost of defense alone had become too much. This had given cause to Britain's retreat on the command of the British Prime Minister at the time. This man's name was Herbert Henry Asquith, which was Prime Minister from 1852 to 1928.
