Here on Bossed Up with Bella, we have a quote of the day. Today's quote is, what you do has far greater impact than what you say. Now, this will lead us straight into the title of this episode, Leading Life with Bella. Let's get straight into the interview. First off, I would like to have a little introduction for you, so would you like to introduce yourself? Yeah, so my name is Mario Elias. I'm 43 years old. I'm originally from Peru. I live here in the United States for the last 20-something years. I have a beautiful family with my wife and three kids. I own my own business. I am an entrepreneur, and yeah, basically that's it. I have two dogs. Okay, so I would like to hear about what you think is good leadership, and in this context, for your business, what is good leadership? So, if we talk about my business, and I put myself in the leadership, is my employees are looking at someone to make the decisions, and they're looking at someone to decide what is the good or bad for the company in this case. So I get together with my team. We talk about different options, and in the end, I trust in the decision they were making, and then I say, you know what, this is what is gonna happen. This is how we're gonna do it, and we make it. I mean, sometimes we don't make the right decision, the right choice, but we always try to do the best. Okay, so what skills do you think are important for a leader to have? Well, you know, for my business it's important that my employees know that they can trust me, that every time that I'm making a decision or I'm doing something, I'm gonna be in the best for the company and the best for them. You know, it's important that you have the discipline, being honest to make the decision, and always tell the truth. So trust, a trusting relationship between you and your employees can help you to be a better leader to your followers? Yes, definitely, because when I show that they can trust me, it will be, they know that every time that I make a decision, I'm gonna be in the best interest for the company and for them. You know, I always tell my employees that it's always important to be honest and always say the truth. Okay, well, now that we've heard about some positives about leadership, would you like to tell us about some of the challenges? Well, some challenges is that you need to make decisions that sometimes are not very easy to make, but they need to be made because it's gonna be depending on the continuity of the relation with employees, or the continuity of the relation with the customer, or even, you know, decisions they have to make internally that if they can affect the business. Okay, well, since there are so many challenges in being a leader, how would you determine how to lead well in these difficult situations? Well, you know, it's hard to say that you're always making the right decision, but, you know, the more information that you can gather and trust in your team, you know, you can come out with a very good resolution and try to be better, so you can, whatever happens, even for good or for bad, you know, there's a reason why that decision was made. So when you're leading your team, the biggest issue isn't really choosing the right decision, is it, it's more like having trust in your employees than having trust in you and working towards what's best? Well, you know, yes, you know, I need to trust my employees because if I can trust my employee, you know, that shouldn't be my employee. You know, I think it has to be a trust in between, and it's important for me that, you know, we're a family, you know, we're working towards the same goal, but if someone lied or someone doesn't say the truth or someone doesn't do the right thing or we don't have the plan on what direction we're going, you know, it's gonna make it difficult, you know, so that means that that person is not in the right path and is not following the direction that you wanna go. So maybe that's not a good fit. Okay, well, to make this a little more personal, what was your pathway to leadership like? Well, you know, I'm the oldest in my family, the only son, and I always was a good person growing up, but I always was very close to my parents and my parents' friends, so I always kind of grew up a little bit faster than I need to probably, and it made me more responsible. So, and it was easy for me to make decisions sometimes, you know, I mean, that doesn't say that I always make the right decision, but I was trying always to, you know, my dad gave me the opportunity, you know, and I always take advantage of the opportunity. So do you think that you surrounding yourself by these adults and people that were leaders in your life helped you become a leader later on? Well, I think in my personality and in my point of view is that I always try to use the experience the other people have, you know, to make my own experience at the same time, but also, you know, being with all these people that's older than me probably, it make it easier for me because I mature a little bit sooner than the rest of my friends, and they always see me like a good, you know, responsible with discipline person. So I think that's, you know, how it make it easier for me. I mean, I'm not saying it is easy all the way, but you know, it's easier for me. So why would we like to have these leaders? Why do we need them? Well, I think it's important because not everybody is a leader. You know, sometimes you got good leaders and bad leaders, but I think they're important so you can lead the time. You know, people would know which direction you're going. Someone has to, an orchestra, you know, you have someone, you know, they play the music, right? So. So speaking of not everyone being a leader, how does a leader make people follow them? Or what type of leader make people follow them? I think determination and personality have a lot to do with it. So do you think that if you were to have a different personality or if you didn't have one trait, what trait would that be? Like that made you a leader? Hmm. I don't know. You know, people always follow me. You know, I wasn't a good example. I always tried to be a good person, a good example. And they always say, you know, this person is good, you know, and I probably that motivates me to be better every time, you know? So people follow me, you know, and I start making good decisions and I notice that I can be an influence, you know, for other people. So you being trustworthy is what you think makes people follow you? I think trustworthy is one of them. Okay. So what would your message be to those trying to become a leader? Well, I think that those who become, you know, they want to become, be a leader, it's important that, you know, they have good principles, you know, has to be people that people can trust, you know, have discipline, and try to be a good example always. Okay. If you're hearing this message, you've listened to the entire episode, and for that, I want to thank you. I hope you enjoyed leading life with Bella and now understand that being a leader is not as easy as you might think. To recap what was said, to be a good leader, you need to be disciplined, determined, and create trust with your followers. Remember that a good team is only as good as its leader. Thank you all for listening to this episode of Bossed Up with Bella. Bye.
