In 2022, in Melilla, the Spanish enclave in Moroccan territory, several dozen sub-Saharan migrants who were trying to reach the enclave by crossing the fence were killed by the Moroccan police. According to Amnesty International, the Moroccan police were passing among the lifeless, living, and dead bodies and hitting them with their batons to check if they were breathing. Les policiers marocains passaient entre les corps inertes, vivants et morts et donnaient des coups avec leur matraque pour vérifier s'ils respiraient.
