Look what God gave her, a perfect teenager She walks in the room, it's like he answered my prayers The way that she moves, how could anybody blame her? I know she's got ears, but it ain't her fault No, look what God gave her I know she's got ears, but it ain't her fault No, look what God gave her, a perfect teenager She walks in the room, it's like he answered my prayers The way that she moves, how could anybody blame her? I know she's got ears, but it ain't her fault No, look what God gave her, a perfect teenager She walks in the room, it's like he answered my prayers My style? It's the manner and approach in an artist's work It reflects the personal influences, experiences, and techniques that the artist has learned and had My style, for instance, includes watercolors, monoprinting with silkscreens collage, ink drawings, and often these are all mixed together into a single image where you can see the visible layers and happen through the images that I have done An artistic style encompasses various elements Each artist's elements are going to be different Things like line, color, texture, composition, layers and the way we use a brush or silkscreen or you record our voices It is shaped by cultural, historical, and personal experience and factors that affect how we are as a person For example, my use of watercolors and ink drawings often involves layers of textures and vibrant colors inspired by both natural elements and historical art techniques that I have learned through the past Some of that is from spending time outside and drawing directly from life A recognizable style is crucial It sets every artist apart My style is going to be different than any other artist's There may be some similarities, but mine is unique to me It is why I create So part of the recognizable style for each artist has to deal with the reasons why an artist creates the way they do Think about famous artists like Van Gogh or Picasso One look at their work and you instantly recognize their style Every style for an artist will evolve over time and that's natural Embrace the evolution of your journey of creating your artistic style Finding your style begins by understanding who you are as a person and how you respond to things, your feelings to things Why do you create? You have to answer that Why do you create the art you do? Your style is influenced by your experiences and inspirations Where do your inspirations come from? What kind of experiences have you had that reflect and adjust in your artwork? Think about your favorite artists and what elements of their work resonate with you For me, Milton Glaser's bold contrast and his typefaces he uses in his work has always been an inspiration David Carson's natural flowing colors that have layers and his understanding of how placement and composition work for the viewer The styles of Monet, Da Vinci, Van Gogh also inspire me with their lighting and the brush strokes and the various subjects There are many different types of styles of artists but they resonate with me for my inspiration to create my artwork Every artist is going to be different Go to the gallery, go to the museum, get inspired by the artists that are out there Identifying reoccurring themes in your own work like subjects, colors, motifs are going to start to show up in your style and it's going to be what helps you evolve I have a reoccurring theme in my work and it's familiar objects and antiques that evoke a sense of nostalgia and timelessness. These always show up in my work It could be things or objects or it could be people that are in my past Bring your hobbies and experiences into your art I love puzzles so when I create a collage, I collect items, place them together like a puzzle, putting them on my canvas and my art board and using that as a way for me to create my collage We'll be back in just a moment We'll be back in just a Apple Music and WDRB Media, the voice of the community She looks so pretty when her makeup's on You should hear her talking to her mama on the phone I love it when she raps to an Eminem song That's my girl Man her eyes really drive me crazy You should see her smile when she holds a baby I can honestly say that she saved me My girl Yeah, that's my girl in the passenger seat Windows down, dancing around, causing a scene That's my girl, tipping crown a sprite And a ball cap turned back, ooh She got me like, yeah, baby girl, you're gonna done it again Making all the guys wishing you were with them But I bet they don't see what I see when I see my girl Every night when she goes to bed She hits her knees and bows her head Thanks the Lord for another day I just can't get enough of my girl Yeah, that's my girl in the passenger seat Windows down, dancing around, causing a scene That's my girl, tipping crown a sprite And a ball cap turned back, ooh She got me like, yeah, baby girl, you're gonna done it again Making all the guys wishing you were with them But I bet they don't see what I see when I see my girl Oh, my girl Yeah, that's my girl In my truck, in the songs that I sing at the radio outs My girl In my heart, in my soul, in the air that I breathe every day That's my girl, yeah, every time My girl That's my girl in the passenger seat Windows down, dancing around, causing a scene That's my girl, tipping crown a sprite And a ball cap turned back, ooh She got me like, yeah, baby girl, you're gonna done it again Making all the guys wishing you were with them But I bet they don't see what I see when I see my girl Oh, my girl Yeah, that's my girl Welcome back listeners One of the things you can do that will help your style evolve Is to analyze your past works and identify what patterns and things that show up Reflect on the emotions and thoughts that were present when you made that artwork Think about how you created it and the process you used And these are going to help you evolve and see how your perception of your style is growing The self-exploration that you have will help you pinpoint what consistently captures your interest and emotional engagement So your engagement and your feelings is what's being put into your artwork Now, think about how your work is and what you do in order to create it Take the time and experiment You know what tools and techniques you already know So find something new that's going to challenge you Experiment with it It'll help you grow and evolve your style into something that is really unique to you It'll allow you to play with new mediums and techniques Learning and discovering new ways to be creative Try different materials and methods Painters can explore various new paint types or colors And a different approach to applying If you always use a brush, try a palette knife Writers can experiment with genres and narrative styles That is a way for you to grow as a writer Musicians might try a different instrument Compositions and techniques for making their music And using maybe acoustic techniques sometimes This will help you grow as a person And your art will reflect that Set aside some time to play and explore without the pressure or expectations for anything You don't have to share it But sharing it is going to help you grow even more Think of an artist journal or a pocket notebook for your doodles It is going to help you carry it with you When you have an idea or you see something that's interesting Jot it down, take a photo Your camera on your phone is a great resource When you go out and you look at things and see things that inspire you Give you feelings and note that It is going to help your style evolve into something that is really personal to you These pages in your sketchbook or doodle book Is going to be interesting and inspiration for later on You may not be crazy about some of the information that you sketch in your book But later on that is going to jog your memory Inspire you to continue and embrace that process Using that experience and learning from it Experimentation also means stepping out of your comfort zone Don't stay where you are always comfortable because you are not going to grow as an artist Try something completely different from what you usually do If you typically paint landscapes, try abstract just for the fun of it You can play with that If you are a writer, fiction, dabbling poetry, give it a try It's going to help you go and use that The kind of exploration can lead to unexpected discoveries And help you refine your unique voice Some of the things we need to use and do after we experiment Is to show it to others Get feedback and reflect on what your style is so you may refine it even more Share your work with trusted friends, mentors or on social media communities you are involved with Constructive criticism Now I mean constructive meaning understanding of how you create your style And criticism not saying I don't like that or it's no good Reasons why Why wouldn't you like it? Why do you like it? What colors do you like? What shapes do you like? What sound do you like? Being able to listen and take that criticism And use it as feedback to improve your style Make the informed adjustments to your work And why you do it is to grow and reflect on your style and work with it So engage your audience and peers Ask for feedback on the elements about what you're unsure about Post it on Facebook Post it on Instagram Pinterest Send it on to your friends on Snapchat It is a way for you to get better at what you do Looking at the feedback and getting on the social media is also going to help your confidence You're going to understand that that confidence needs that boost for you to see what is new with your style What your improvements are And over time you will see a pattern of growth Self-assessment will help you identify these patterns and strengths And some areas that you might need a little improvement Think about what you see or feel when you look at your past work Understanding your journey can guide you into future creations of great work Keep a journal or a digital archive where you can look at all your artwork together And see your artistic process and growth This will provide you insights into how your style has evolved And where you might take it next Where will you want to go with your artwork and your style What do you want to do with it You're back to this idea of why you create Why do you do what you do And who you are as a person in your artwork So after all this ideas and feedback and reflection and experimenting You have to be consistent And you have to be able to take the time to learn and evolve and grow with your artistic style So practice regularly Hone your skills and solidify your style Practice, practice, practice You always hear that saying Practice makes perfect Well it's obviously true You have to take the time to practice Whether it's singing, drawing, dancing, writing The more you practice the better you get And your artistic style will be solidified into what becomes And is identified with you as a person Create a cohesive body of work Meaning reflecting your voice of your art Cohesive body of work could be anything of 10, 20, 30, 40, 100 pieces of work This consistency is going to build your recognition And it's going to reinforce who you are as an artist Allow room for a little bit of evolution Your style is going to change over time And your themes may change over time But there will be a pattern of growth You will gain new experiences and techniques as you experiment and play with different mediums And it's going to evolve into It's going to involve so much that you're going to grow as an artist Take that time to practice Be consistent in practicing Not just oh well I'll do it tomorrow Do it every day One day at a time Take the time and use that as creating for yourself You may have a job that's a 40 hour a week job But take that maybe one hour or half hour a day And practice your skill of being an artist Don't be afraid to evolve and incorporate any new influences into your work Your artistic style is not a static thing It evolves as you grow too One thing you need to remember is that you need to stay curious and open to new experiences Attend workshops, art classes, singing classes, writing classes Go to exhibitions, go to the museum, go and travel Expose yourself to different cultures Different artist practices These experiences will enrich your perspective And contribute to who you are as an artist And the evolution of your artistic style Well I've given you a lot of information to talk about And we've gone over a lot Think about these things I've discussed with you Understand yourself and your influences Knowing why you create the way you do is the first thing to understand Experiment with different techniques and mediums So take that time to play Be yourself, invest in yourself and play Take feedback and reflect on those discoveries of the feedback Good, bad will all help you improve your artwork And be consistent Stay open to evolving over time And practice, practice, practice It is going to help you evolve and grow with your art Finding your artistic style is a continuous journey It's not a destination, it doesn't stop It's one of those things that is going to continue as you grow and learn Embrace the process and enjoy your exploration I encourage you to take one step today toward finding your style Practice, play and be creative
