The transcription is a conversation between Total Recall, Juan, and Mike discussing various topics related to fantasy football. They discuss the Casey Lions game and speculate on which players will step up in the absence of key players. They also discuss the performance and potential of rookies and tight ends. The conversation then shifts to the Detroit Lions and the potential of players like Josh Reynolds and Marvin Jones. They end the conversation by discussing the upcoming games and the impact of injured players like Taylor and Cooper Kupp. Hello, guys. This is Total Recall. I'm here with Juan and Mike from our league. This week we're going to be talking about the game that just went on, Casey and the Lions. And we're going to touch a few points on the matches coming up and our players that we have drafted in our league. Mike, do you want to introduce yourself? Hey, guys. How's it going? Mike, Reject 2.0 is my second year in the league. I'm having a really good time. You can also call me the best trader in the league as well. Yeah, so I've been playing fantasy football off and on for the last six years. But joining this league, man, I'm really enjoying the fact that it's super competitive and looking to see what we can do moving forward, man. So, yeah, it's going to be on me from Del Rio, Texas in San Antonio. Diehard Eagles fan, man. So that's me. How about you, Juan? Hey, what's up, guys? Like I said, I'm Juan. I'm Hugo's brother. I've been playing fantasy football not for that long. I'm still trying to get the hang of it. But, yeah, just looking forward to the league, how competitive it is, and looking forward to some of those trades that come through. Yeah, they're crazy. Yeah, I enjoy those trades. Yeah, looking forward to it. Okay, so the first topic, guys, is the Casey Lions game. We had Kelsey out, and big questions from the wide receiver core for Casey. Who do you guys think is going to step up? Who do you guys think is going to be – the homes are going to depend on them, and it's going to hit – it's going to throw them the ball more? Mike? Yeah, that's a great question, Hugo. I mean, a lot of people are – Kansas State is really under the microscope right now, right? We really don't know what's going on with Kelsey, right? They say he might have sprained his ACL. We don't know, but regardless of the fact, somebody needs to step up. A lot of blame has been put on Tony, but I still feel like Tony is going to be that guy. I feel like Tony – let him get this first game out from underneath him, and I really believe he's going to grow into his own and become one of Pat Mahomes' premier targets. So I'm still sold on Tony, I apologize, in the NFL and for fantasy. So I think Tony is going to be the guy still. Yeah, the same thing. I think he just had a rough first game. I think there's a lot of expectations for him, especially with Kelsey being on. That was even a lot more pressure. I mean, it's not like he's a rookie, but he's come there. I think once Kelsey comes back, he's going to be one of the main targets, and he's going to allow the wide receivers to battle him more freely. Okay. I mean, myself, I think that Tony spent too much time off the field. He's hurt a lot. I think Rice, the rookie, I had said before I like Richie James, that he came from New York, and I think, like I said before, by week six, I think he's going to be one of Mahomes' main targets. Speaking on that edge, what do you think about, on the other side, what do you think about guys like Armand St. Brown, out of the rookies of Mark Gibbs, fantasy-wise? Do you feel like these guys will continue to have an uptick in their performance? Definitely. I think Gibbs had a – he didn't have a great game. It was a decent game. I mean, he had about seven points. But I think he's only going to get better. I think he's going to get more touches. I think he's a better running back. I'm not trying to knock down Montgomery, but I think Gibbs is a better running back. And, I mean, Brown, I mean, St. Brown, he is a two-goal guy for God, so definitely, you know, he's going to be top ten, I think. What do you think, Juan? I don't know. I think it all depends how Jared Goff plays for the wide receivers. Jared Goff sometimes, at one point, was one of the top QBs, and I don't know where he disappears. And that's where the running backs are going to be helping out. I think Montgomery still has a good – he still has a lot of play on him. And I think he's going to be a tough competition with the rookie and Montgomery. But, yeah, I think it's going to depend on which Goff they throw against. What do you think about the new tight end, Laporta? I mean, they traded Hawkinson in the middle of the season last year. I mean, now with Laporta, there's high expectations. He – I mean, I think his ceiling is going to be high. What do you guys think? What do you guys saw in him? You know, I mean, he had a few targets. What do you guys think? For being such a young player, Laporta had a great career at Iowa, where he played for his college ball team. But coming in, he showed flashes that he can be a premier – he's not going to be a premier tight end in the league, but for the Detroit Lions, he's going to have a promising tight end for a couple of years with them. He has the size, 6'3", 245. He moves well. I feel like he definitely has an upside to him. So, I like Sam Laporta. It's going to take a couple more games for me to see him kind of develop or see a lot of these guys sometimes. They start strong and then they fade off right by like week eight. So, that's my – Definitely. And, I mean, usually tight ends, they don't start actually performing until their three, fourth year. I agree. You know, their first couple years, usually they don't perform that much. So, I mean, what do you think, Juan? I don't know. I'm really eager about tight ends because if they don't see much in you, the way that the game is designed, they kind of – if you don't get targets, you don't get good. You will not get good. You don't get targets, you're not going to show up what you can do. If you find somebody like Kelsey, you're going to get targets. You're going to be good, good, good, good. If Laporta gets some targets, he starts missing some balls, the plays are not going to go through. They're not going to go through him. So, yeah. Last game, he was 5-for-5. He had five targets. He had five catches. There's going to be a lot of mouth to feed in Detroit. I mean, we have Sam Brown. Jamison is suspended for a few games, but he's going to be coming back. They have both running backs. They have Marvin Jones. He didn't have a great game, but – And what's important, also, he did have five targets, five catches, but he didn't go nowhere. So, I don't remember the plays, but sometimes some of those catches are like, oh, crap, I need to get rid of the ball. Yeah, it was about seven yards per catch. So, it's not much. It's a good target to, like, oh, crap. Just kind of dump the ball out? Yeah, kind of dump the ball. Like, hey, I have a big target there to do it in. That's probably a 5-out-of-5, but he didn't go nowhere. Sam Brown had six targets – well, nine targets, six catches, 71 yards in the touchdown. So, he moved the ball a little bit more, even though it's a little bit different because of work receiver side-in, but I think the side-in is going to be more just dump the ball. Hopefully, they use it better on the end zone, just like they used to use Gran Cosi. What do you think about the local guy? I mean, I know you guys are San Diego guys, but being here in San Antonio, Josh Reynolds, he led the receiving for Detroit Lions. He's local to San Antonio. He had four receptions, 80 yards. Do you think that's just a one-time thing, or does Josh Reynolds have a potential to be a pretty big target for Jared Goff? Reynolds has been around the league a few seasons already, and he's always there, but he's not consistent. That's what I think. He has some good games, but he has to be consistent. If he wants to be talked about in fantasy football, if he wants to be drafted high, he has to be consistent. With St. Brown there, with Jamison there, it's going to be hard. I think a lot of people don't like Jamison. He hasn't shown much, but the potential is there. The potential is there. Just like you guys said about Tony, the potential is there. He just has to show it. Whether he's going to show it or not, we'll see, but I think it's going to depend on the next few games. Jamison's not here. That's the time to step up for Reynolds. Yeah, but the only thing with that is he's already 28 years old. He's been in the league a few years, what, two, four, six, eight, about 10 years, and at this point, he's going to make him a really good backup wide receiver, and he has to make the best of it whenever he gets the chance to try to get a few more years in it. But he's been in the league for a while. He hasn't made it. Once the other wide receivers from Detroit come, it's going to make it even harder to get in it. I agree. Yeah. So, fantasy-wise, do you leave Josh Reynolds on the bench? Once everybody's back, I would. Yeah, once they're back, unless everybody else has heard anything. I mean, I think Marvin Jones is better than Reynolds. I would play Jones before Reynolds. I mean, he had a bad game, but I think Marvin Jones is better. I agree with you guys both. I mean, I think fantasy is about consistency, right? You have some of these guys that have big games, but they go four or five games not doing anything at all. I'm not the expert in fantasy football, but I'm finding if you want to play those guys, you have to put in consistent points. Yeah, especially whenever the QBs get their favorite targets. Even if the guy, Reynolds, can be the worst wide receiver, but if the quarterback likes him and keeps on the ball, let's put him in the lineup. But if not… And I think Reynolds played with Goff and the Rams. I think he played a couple seasons with them there. And Goff is Goff. They have to do the playbook for him because he is not going to be the explosive quarterback. I think he does a lot of short passes. But I think he's in the right team. He's in the right offense that is shaped just for him. So, you know, how about we talk about the games coming up tomorrow? What key players do you think? I know there's a few players out due to injury, like Taylor. He was drafted somewhat high, unless it's the Keeper League. Taylor, Cooper Cupp, what kind of impact are they going to have on their teams, on their managers, because they're missing? I think a lot of these guys, like Taylor Cupp, they're going to have a big impact because, for example, Cupp, yeah, he gets a lot of yards, but he gets like 300 freaking targets every freaking game. So, yeah, you're going to get that. So now that they have to find who are we going to target if he's not here? The same thing with Taylor. He gets a lot of touches on the ball. So now they have to find somebody that is going to produce as much as Taylor did. And because he has so many touches on the ball, so now they have to distribute all those plays. So since you're talking about how to replace him, do you look for someone to replace him within the team, or do you look somewhere else? Do you look to one of the backups, you know, one of the backup wide receivers? Is Jefferson going to step up with the Rams? Who's going to be the one that is going to replace Cupp or Taylor? You know, which running back are you going to pick up to be able to replace him? That's a great question. Me personally, that's a great question. Me personally, I've done both. And I don't know if I would replace somebody like Jonathan Taylor with a backup running back because he's going to come back. And, I mean, when he comes back, that production is going to pick back up, and then that's just a wasted slot on the roster for me personally. So that's a great question. What would you say, Juan? I actually picked up Mollis, but I picked it up with the mindset of playing him first and to set our kids back. I think the way that I see some of the things, they have to give the ball to somebody. They have to run the ball. They have a rookie quarterback on Indianapolis. So the running game is going to be important. So it's either the QB is going to start running the ball or the running back is going to be running the ball. I picked up Mollis. I mean, we don't really have a lot of leftovers on our league, but I picked up Mollis. Hopefully he gives me some points. I'm just looking for the points that he's going to give me and to set our kids back. And once he comes back, just goodbye. Goodbye, yeah. Okay, so we're kind of focusing on Dynasty. How about for redraft? Will you pick some of those guys up? So for redraft, would you pick up like for Moss, would you pick up Moss, Dion for redraft? Would you create some space just to play them for now, redraft? No, I'm looking in totally different directions. I wouldn't. I wouldn't want to replace those guys. You know, put a patch on it. We'll try to find some other players that I could, you know, basically fill that void. I wouldn't. I think it is key for us to me. So we have to build up for the future, for the future. So these players are probably going to be there. We can pick them up after the draft is over, and they're probably going to be there. You know what I mean? It's just who's looking at the roster of what players can you pick up. And if you're there early enough, maybe you can get it. But, yeah, I wouldn't waste one of my picks. Okay. Okay. We talked about Cup. We talked about Taylor. What about Watson in Green Bay? Do you think that's going to be a big impact on that team, or would you pick somebody in Green Bay? Do you think Love is going to perform? I'll give you the next kind of question. Let's think about why do we truly know about Jordan Love right now? He's one of those guys, high potential, right? Like they kind of call it in the NFL a lot of upsides. It's his turn as the guy up for Green Bay. But there's still a huge question mark over him. Can he get it done? I feel like his performance is going to directly affect the output of guys like Watson. So I think it really starts with Jordan Love. Is he Green Bay's guy? Filling that void for Aaron Rodgers? I mean, I can't answer that question because I have to see him. I have to see him play for the next couple games to get a read on him. I never grade preseason. I think preseason is cute and all, but I don't think that's what we can kind of grade how the season is going to look. So, yeah, I think it depends on Jordan Love. If Jordan Love is who the media and what Green Bay is trying to make him out to be, I think Watson can have a decent output in fantasy football. I mean, Green Bay made a decision based on what they saw in the few games that he played last year for Rodgers or on the few plays that he had. And obviously they felt comfortable enough to let Aaron Rodgers go. Do you think he's going to be – where is he going to be ranked? Like mid-tier? You know, low end? I don't know about low end personally. Yeah, I think it's going to be really hard to say because I do believe they let Rodgers go because they didn't want to pay him. He's old. He has one or two years. Love is coming up in the league. So why am I going to waste all this money? And they don't have the support roster to get Rodgers to win under Green Bay right now. You know what I mean? I agree with Wally, but it was definitely a business decision. Green Bay let Rodgers go ahead and go to the Jets. So they can paint how they want to paint at the end of the day. It was definitely a business decision. Yeah. I would say Rodgers probably one or two more years to elite level. And, I mean, I don't think the Jets are giving him a long-term contract like he wanted. But, yeah. On that note about Love and all the questions around him, do you think the running game is going to be affected? Is it going to go up or down since all those questions are around Love, whether he's going to be able to throw, whether he's going to have the receivers? Aaron Jones is there. Dylan is there. I mean, there used to be, you know, workhorses for Aaron Rodgers. If it wasn't one, it was the other one. They both had carries. I mean, Aaron Jones was the main one. But Dylan had a lot of touches, and he had – I mean, he's a big back, and he had a lot of tough yards and some of the end zone work. What do you think is going to happen right now that Aaron's gone? Selfishly, I hope that the run game continues to see an increase, right? I have Dylan drafted on my fantasy team, so I'd love to see him touch the ball a little bit more, especially with Aaron Jones back and sharing carries there. I feel like until Jordan Love finds a rhythm and gets comfortable this season, they're going to rely heavily on running backs for heavy output. So, I think Green Bay is going to run the ball. I think we're going to see a Green Bay team that's definitely going to run the ball a lot more than what they're used to. Yeah, especially with Watson now right now, I think they're going to – I mean, those two running backs are – they're good. They're good running backs. I personally don't believe they're using as much as they should because they're actually – I believe they're elite running backs. But with Watson now, brand-new quarterback, I think they're going to use their running backs a little more. We touched about Aaron Rodgers a little bit, so let's talk about the Jets. The Jets have 1,000 running backs in their roster. So, they have Fritz Hall. They signed the running back from the Vikings. Doug Cook. Cook. And they already had – they had other couple running backs. I know they let someone go. But who's going to – I mean, Doug Cook is a – it's a pretty good running back. I would say elite. I don't even know what he was like, though. But the way that the league is right now, the NFL, I think running backs are underappreciated. We have so many good running backs that they just – you're good, but I have somebody that is younger than you, and I can get more out of it. Goodbye. So. No, I definitely agree with you, Juan, that the – unfortunately, again, the NFL is a business, and being that the typical NFL running back, I mean, you can expect four to five years on high end form as far as, like, just output from them. So they don't have that kind of, you know, luxury like a wide receiver or, you know, or a cornerback or offensive tackle when you want to paint them. So they're definitely not appreciated. But Doug Cook brings a different dynamic to the Jets team. I mean, I feel like he still was a premier back in the league, what he was able to do in Minnesota. And it's obvious. We can tell that the Jets – they're putting in their chips for all-in. You can tell the Jets are going all-in this year. And I think Doug Cook is going to be a big piece of that. I'm not saying they're going to win it. I'm not going to jump on the bandwagon and say the Jets are going to win it. But they're definitely putting some pieces together that needs to make a solid argument for them. So, fantasy-wise, do you think Cook is going to take a lot of the touches for Bryce Hall, especially Hall coming back from an injury? Especially Bryce Hall, even with the second, third time that he gets hurt, as soon as he comes back, plays a few games and gets hurt. So. I agree. When it comes to fantasy football, again, I feel like Bryce Hall showed he has the ceiling, but Dadwin Cook showed he knew how to get it done. So, Dadwin Cook's the consistent back. With Minnesota, he was a consistent output for fantasy football. I think it's going to still be the same thing with the Jets. I think Dadwin Cook's going to be that guy. Okay. I just got a notice about Kendrick Miller. He's going to miss the first week with the Saints. What do you guys think? I mean, I know that they were looking at him pretty good. With Kamara being out, you know, he was still going to be the backup. But is Williams going to be taking that role? And is he going to take touches from Kamara when he comes back? Or what do you think is going to happen? Juan? I don't know. I think Jamal Williams was having a great season with the Lions. With Detroit? With Detroit. I think I'm not trying to figure it out. Like Mike said, it was a business decision probably that they let him go. We got a younger running back. Let me get this guy. But I think Williams is going to take a few from Kamara. Once he starts seeing his potential, what he's producing, I think he's going to take a few from there. And right now, he's making the RB1 with the Saints, including everybody else out. Yes, sir. I think Jamal Williams is definitely going to get his fair share while Alvin Kamara is out. But I believe that once Alvin Kamara comes back, he's going to pick up where he never left off. I think his potential is going to be back to where they were before. They're both 28 years old, right? So when it comes to a value standpoint, right now he's just a placeholder for Alvin Kamara. I don't feel like Alvin Kamara's true replacements are going to be taking a lot from Alvin Kamara. But I think he is a solid placeholder for Kamara until he gets back. And we talked about running backs being underappreciated. One of the big stories was Eckler. Eckler was actually given permission to look for a new team. He wasn't able to find one that was willing to pay enough for him. Paying enough because the Chargers were looking for a first-round pick, you know, it was going to be hard for him to find somewhere to go. What do you think his year is going to look like? Obviously, it's the last year of his contract. You know, is he going to play for a new contract? Is he going to have the best year? I mean, even though he had a great year last year, is he going to have even a better year? Is he going to be able to keep up? What do you guys think? I mean, it's a workhorse for the Chargers. I think most of these NFL teams, whenever something like this happens, they reduce the number of targets for those players because they know they might lose them or not. Maybe it's just the opposite. But I think it's going to be really hard, especially with Eckler trying to find a team. There's so many good running backs that we're looking for for work. Look, there's one of them that we just talked about. CK Elliott is the other one that was out there. I mean, all these guys are still pretty good level. But according to the NFL, they're old. So, yeah. I have to agree with Juan. I think when it comes to what he's going to do this year, I think Austin Eckler is definitely going to have a solid season. I think he's going to do what he's always been doing. But what it looks like next year, I think that's still a big question mark as well because he's 28 years old, going to be 29. And like Juan said, in the NFL, that's your shelf life, right? So, there's not a lot of people that's willing to pay a lot of money for a running back at that age. I mean, I believe that if you look at New England, I think Zeke got the best contract he's going to be able to get, right, for his age and for his output. I think Austin Eckler is going to be in the same situation. I think he's going to find a team that's willing to pay him, but he's not going to get that premium price that he's looking for. And if you look at right now the running backs in the league, most of them are getting 1-2-year contracts for about $10-12 million. Nobody wants to invest into the long-term with a lot of money, and that's where the running backs are kind of flying forward. I think it's going to come down to, hey, you're good, but it's the same thing with Jacobs from Raiders. He did not get a long-term contract. The same thing with Conor from Cardinals. He had a really good season. They're just happy to have a job. Yeah, the Raiders is crazy, but when has the Oakland Raiders ever got it right? I'm not very high on Jacobs, so I can't agree with you there. I don't like Jacobs. I think Jacobs had a good season because he was trying to get a new contract, but I think his performance this year is going to go way down. He had the league in Russia last year, correct? I understand. I love to agree and disagree. The season before that, he had a good season. He had a decent season. I know, but I guess what we're talking about is these guys are still good. The NFL is not paying them, so all these guys, even though they're good at making plays and doing this, hey, let me get you a 1-year contract. You know what? I'm not going to pay you. I'm going to give you an average. By then, these guys are not getting any younger, and now we're getting good running backs that are younger, so why am I going to pay an older guy? I agree with that. If I can get somebody that is younger and get two, three years and pay him the rookie money, and then yeah. I agree. Hugh, I've got to ask you, man, before you jump to the next subject. If you had to do a redraft, where would you take Jacob? If you had to take Jacob? Third round. Third round? I wouldn't take him before the third round. I wouldn't. We said that he was number one in the league last year, right? And he was receiving too. Can you name four backs that you would take over fantasy-wise and just in general as far as the NFL? Eckler, Henry. Henry? Yes. I would just agree with Henry because he's a really good running back. He can't catch the ball to save his freaking life. Jacob catches. Eckler, yeah, Eckler does the same thing as Jacob, catches, rushing and everything. But Henry is a train. He has to be on the ground. He would not catch the ball. Chuck? I would take CMC. I would take between Robinson and Chuck. I think Robinson has a high ceiling with Atlanta. Is that Robinson the rookie? It is the rookie. Making a point. Because I'm going with him. He has a lot more potential. He has a lot more shelf life than Jacob. Jacob is good in everything. I would take him on redraft though. I would take him on redraft over Jacob. I don't think the Raiders are going to do as well as people are going to think they're going to do. And I don't think Jacob is going to do. I don't think Jacob is going to do as well as people are going to think they're going to do. I don't think Jacob is going to do as well as people are going to think they're going to do. I don't think Jacob is going to do as well as people are going to think they're going to do. I don't think Jacob is going to do as well as people are going to think they're going to do.
