This is a conversation on Radio Kidnappers about allergies and homeopathy. Heidi from Thrive Homeopathy explains that allergies occur when the immune system mistakes harmless substances as dangerous invaders. This leads to an immune response, producing histamines and triggering symptoms such as itching and burning. Heidi shares her experience with hay fever and how homeopathy helped her overcome it. Homeopathy can provide immediate relief for acute symptoms, but a more holistic approach is needed for long-term prevention. Heidi discusses how homeopathic remedies are chosen based on symptoms and individual characteristics. It is important to find the right remedy, and if it doesn't work, adjustments can be made. The conversation highlights the effectiveness of homeopathy in providing quick relief and the importance of understanding the underlying causes of allergies. You're listening to Radio Kidnappers, the voice of Hawke's Bay. This is the program all about homeopathy and it's our pleasure as always to have in the studio Heidi from homeopathy, Thrive Homeopathy in Napier. Yes that's right Ken and it's great to be back as always. Finally the sun is shining, flowers are blooming, grass is growing, spring winds are blowing and with that what happens? Allergies. Allergies and that's why we're here to talk about allergies this month. Allergies and homeopathy and tell us first of all what is an allergy? Well Ken actually it's pretty simple, it's a little error, it's a mistake. So the immune system mistakes a normally harmless substance which can be in our case a hay fever, a pollen or a grass pollen for example and it thinks that this substance is a dangerous invader and we then have an immune response. We produce antibodies that remember and recognize the substance so every time we come in contact with the substance the antibodies send out alarm signals which triggers the body to produce chemicals such as histamine. So with that, with the histamines more blood is sent to the area so let's say you've inhaled a pollen then the histamines will go to the nasal cavities and with that we produce mucus to flush out the invader and we have more blood going there so it's hot and it's burning and itchy and the body is actually just doing what it's supposed to do if it were an invader and dangerous but as I say it's a mistake because most people don't you know suffer from a pollen and it's not dangerous. Indeed. What if some people get an allergic reaction to pollen do you think and not everyone? Well personally as I've been a hay fever sufferer myself, I know that the immune system is basically the key to it and I believe that something or various incidents in your life can just weaken the immune system so maybe lots of stress, not sleeping well, lots of things going on in your life, in my case it was all that plus vaccines and we know that vaccines carry lots of toxic carrier substances so my immune system just didn't cope at the time with this overload and I immediately had allergy. Yes. So I've been able through homeopathy to overcome that and I'm now for three years hay fever free. That's great isn't it? Yeah I know that the immune system is the key. Now with homeopathy of course you can have a I guess a reactive for want of a better word treatment or cure to it that you can come around and say look I've got hay fever, what can you give me right now to help me out? But also homeopathy is a holistic thing isn't it? You treat the whole body looking down the track not necessarily just reacting to the problem. Exactly. So we've got two approaches here that I can recommend to our listeners. So if you are a hay fever sufferer and you want that acute immediate relief which I fully understand then I do encourage you just try homeopathy, you've got nothing to lose, it's safe, it's non-toxic. If you don't get it right, if it's the wrong remedy, nothing's really going to happen. No side effects. No side effects, no. But if it's not working after a few days then stop because it's obviously not the right remedy and you can create symptoms of that remedy picture okay. So if it's not working stop. Doesn't mean homeopathy is not working it's just not the right combo. So in combo if you go to a pharmaceutical provider so it could be healthcare shop or pharmacy they will have homeopathic hay fever combinations. So yeah get yourself one of those try and that will give you acute relief. But if you want to treat the immune system so that next season you will also be hay fever free then that is something that is more holistic will go more into depth and treat you as a whole person. So your personality and all your other little problems that you might have are just as relevant and that's in a constitutional treatment and you can't do that as a layman. Now if we're going to do that preventative route, do we do that every single day for the rest of our lives or is it just coming into that season for pollen? No what happens is in my case for example it did take a while so I had my acute remedies that often changed over the few years and I had the constitutional treatment and that can be sometimes just one or two doses of a very high potency so a very strong dose of a remedy and maybe a few different ones because it's like peeling the layers of an onion when you work through your issues and with that it's done. Like I haven't taken a homeopathic remedy for months or yeah a year now. So it's not something ongoing because it's about stimulating the immune system to rebalance and once that happens it works. Yeah yeah I thought this through the process so if I go to the chemist for instance and I said I've got hay fever he reaches the question says you take this product and you'll feel a whole lot better. That doesn't happen when I come and see you does it? Well it does it just happens with a different. It takes a bit longer doesn't it? No no no. Because you don't just say take this? No if you come and I see the symptoms I can give you an acute remedy and honestly within minutes that dripping nose those itching burning eyes will actually subside. It's pretty amazing. I have so many clients it could be the migraine it can be the cramps it doesn't matter what it is but they take the remedy and then we're still talking and 10-15 minutes later I say so you know how's that itch or how's that cramp or how's the headache or how's that stuff nose oh oh yeah what's improved it's already good. So homeopathy works just unbelievably quickly if it's the right remedy. Yes. And in an acute situation the more so. But you also try and find out what causes it. Exactly why your body has mistaken this harmless substance of a flower pollen to be such a threat to the body yeah. I love your 3,500 and counting remedies that you have access to. How do you decide which one you're going to use for allergies? Okay well obviously the remedies do have affinity to certain organ systems or body parts. Some remedies will have more an affinity to kidneys or blood and circulation others to skin. So in hay fever we would look for remedies that have an affinity to mucous membranes for example right. So if you have nasal drip and sneezing coughing I would look at respiratory affinity so that's already going to limit my pool of remedies. Then I also take into account the person and the personality how you react to having this hay fever are you very irritable and restless or do you just want your peace and quiet and so that also will reduce the pool. And it's sort of like all these puzzle pieces of information that you get the symptoms the reaction the cause the frequency what makes it better the modalities better worse and so on. And so all that information sort of eliminates certain remedies and you come up with well a little selection of potentially this one that one that one and you compare those in detail and then you get the right remedy. And it's as simple as that? Yeah in theory it can be quite time-consuming and obviously the more experience you have the quicker and easier it is. I mentioned that if I take it for a few days and it's not working then I would come back and say okay well it didn't work so then which potion do you decide is going to be the next best thing? Again you just have to go back to the drawing board and have a close look at the symptoms are they the same and did you just you know get it wrong did you miss out something important or have they changed? It has happened that for a certain amount of time one remedy works but then it doesn't and then you need to go along with how the body is reacting and changing. I just need to be upfront with you when we're talking to you because for instance if my allergy is a stress related thing I don't tell you that you're obviously looking well it might be pollen related. Yeah well it's still pollen related obviously as an allergy would be and you don't necessarily have to understand why you've reacted. It's often in the conversation that there are key words that you say, body language, circumstances, the way you talk about things all that is information as well not just what you explicitly say. So I guess it's also the training of the homeopath to understand and see and hear a bit more. Indeed. We're going to take a break have a song and then when we come back we're going to talk some more to Heidi all about homeopathy and allergies. What song would you like to hear Heidi? Well I was thinking what about A Beautiful Day by U2. Favorite song. Here it is. Up to the stony ground, there's no road. No space to run in this town, you're out of luck. And the reason that you had to care, the traffic's stuck. And you're not moving anywhere, you thought you found a friend. They take you out of this place, nowhere you can lay. A head in the churn for grace. A beautiful day. God knows you feel like a beautiful day. And when you can't get away, you're on the road. You've got no destination in the mud. In a wave of imagination, the love you found. Even if that doesn't ring true, you've been all over. And it's been all over you, it's a beautiful day. And when you can't get away, it's a beautiful day. And when you can't get away, it's a beautiful day. And when you can't get away, it's a beautiful day. And when you can't get away, it's a beautiful day. And when you can't get away, it's a beautiful day. And when you can't get away, it's a beautiful day. And when you can't get away, it's a beautiful day. See the world in red and blue. See China right in front of you. See the canyons bursty white clouds. See the children sleep steering the sea out. See the beds and fires at night. See the oil fields at twilight. See the birds that leave in your mouth. And to the floor, all the colors came out. And when you can't get away, it's a beautiful day. And when you can't get away, it's a beautiful day. And when you can't get away, it's a beautiful day. And when you can't get away, it's a beautiful day. And when you can't get away, it's a beautiful day. I also want to talk about some remedies. Yes. So to explain, as I said earlier, we differentiate this remedy, that remedy. We narrow it down. So I thought I would just introduce two or three remedies that are very common and might actually be found in those combination remedies that you can get over the counter. And it will also explain the principle of homeopathy. So Allium Sipa is the kitchen onion. And that is a homeopathic remedy. So it's not going to work if you go home, you have hay fever, and you chop up a kitchen onion. That's not right. You need the homeopathic remedy. Exactly. So everyone knows if you chop up onions, what happens? Your eyes water. Your eyes water. And what else? Something else. I know you've told me this already. Well, your nose starts dripping, at least mine does. And it's just like a water tap. So that is very similar to the symptoms that people will have when they suffer hay fever. And that is why the kitchen onion, Allium Sipa, is a remedy to consider. The nasal discharge is burning. It's worse in the warm room. And it's very fluid, just like real watery. No color or anything. Better out in fresh air. And you want to rub your eyes frequently. And there's violent sneezing, congestive headache, and it's worse on the left side. So those are all little key notes and indicators that if someone comes and says this is what it's like, then I would consider that remedy. But then there are also other symptoms. For example, Nux Vomica, that's the poison nut. And you wouldn't necessarily think of that for a hay fever. You wouldn't eat a whole handful of them, would you? No. And as it is toxic, you would only use it homeopathically where the toxins have been removed. And all remedies are made in pharmacies that are recognized and are specialized in homeopathy. So for the Nux Vomica indication, we would have that the person is irritable and restless, chilly. Again, very fluent nasal drip during the day, but congested at night. So you have a blocked nose. So that's already quite different. It is totally different. So in Allium sepa you might be more restless, but in Nux Vomica you're more irritable and angry and upset. The personality behind a Nux Vomica is more the A-type personality. So the workaholics, people who are highly competitive and enjoy stimulants or need them just to cope. So that's the personality behind it. But then their hay fever would be frequent sneezing and worse in the morning upon rising, for example. So all these little things are very relevant to get it right. So the list is endless. There are about 20 or 30 common remedies that people can look up and give a go in low potency only. And the higher potencies you get from the homeopath if it really matches you overall. I think we need to also stress about homeopathic remedies. If we took a remedy that was a little bit too potent, nothing untoward is going to happen to us, though, is it? It's not going to faint or anything like that or collapse. No, but you can... Well, the way we found out about homeopathy is by trials, by proving. So people actually did take substances in very diluted, minute doses and observed the symptoms and the reactions. And they wear off after a very short time because they're not inherent to you, right? It's from the substance. So if you were to take something for a long time that isn't for you, you could have a proving. You could create symptoms and they would subside, but it can potentially be a bit uncomfortable. That's why we come to you, Heidi. Exactly. Because you're the expert. So you try it. If it works, you're on the right track. Again, it's only acute relief. If you want permanent relief, then you do have to consult a professional. And otherwise, yeah, just enjoy the summer. Absolutely. We're just about out of time, Heidi. So before we get to the end of the show, just to remind our listeners once again, where is Thrive Homeopathy? Number 1, Lambton Road on Hospital Hill in Napier. And how do we get hold of you? We ring you up and your phone number is? 021-335233. And you've got a fabulous website. I do. I think I do. Even if you do say so yourself. What is it? Well, I do put blogs and posts and quite a bit of information. Yes. There's some testimonials. There's just a lot about homeopathy, so people can look it up and get to understand a bit more what it is. Before we let you get back to work, because I know you're busy, what's your pearl of wisdom for this week? Well, how about health is a relationship between you and your body.
