Herman Melville

Herman Melville, born on August 1, 1819, was a renowned American author who excelled in various literary forms such as novels, short stories, essays, and poetry. However, he is most famous for his novel Moby-Dick. Melville's early works, including his first three books, received significant acclaim during their time. In fact, his debut novel, Typee, became a bestseller. Yet, despite his initial literary success in the late 1840s, Melville's popularity took a sharp decline in the mid-1850s and never regained its former glory during his lifetime.
