The Babylonians were skilled in cultivating various types of foods and had a wide selection of dishes. The Euphrates River provided them with water for drinking and cooking. Hammurabi expanded their land and implemented an efficient system of leadership. Some interesting Babylonian recipes include red beet stew, Thelamite broth (which used blood as an ingredient), and Unwinding, a hearty dish for relaxation. Imagine this, it's pre-1600 BC and the civilization of the Babylonians are in the midst of cultivating many different types of foods and resources, crafting a various selection of dishes to choose from. Whether that's lamb stew or a feast of barley and date bread, the Babylonians got it all, for the most part. The Euphates River not only provided them water to drink, but also provided fresh water for them to cook with. At the top of the Babylonian civilization's debt, Hammurabi expanded the Babylonians' land far and wide. He also laid a path to adjust the system within the Babylonian civilization. Under Hammurabi's rule, the civilization of the Babylonians thrived and progressed through life with an efficient system of leadership. Now some background information on the Babylonians. We will be taking a closer look at the foods and recipes the Babylonians have created. To start off, we will be taking a look at red beet stew. This is one of the many recipes that the Babylonians knew how to craft. Alongside of the stew, they would like to have a glass of wine, preferably red. Next up, we are talking about the Thelamite broth. This recipe caught my attention when I found out there was blood used in it. This got me thinking about how the Babylonians were affected by the health risks of consuming the blood. However, all of the ingredients in this dish just caught me by surprise, and hopefully you too. The main ingredients in this dish are fat, blood, sour milk, and garlic. Very interesting combo. The final dish we will be taking a closer look at is called Unwinding. This dish has an interesting name, I'm assuming it has some sort of relaxing ingredient. In this dish, you will use fat, garlic, cilantro, and dried sourdough. Very hearty and full meal, perfect for relaxing and unwinding. And there you have it, some insight of the Babylonians.
