April King returns for Season 2 of her green lifestyle podcast on Earth Day. She shares practical tips for maintaining eco-friendly habits while traveling, such as keeping a cooler and reusable containers in the car, packing healthy snacks like GoMacro bars, and identifying local spots for quick green options. Emphasizing a flexitarian approach, she encourages knowing your food sources. The episode also introduces hibiscus (Bissap/Zobo/Jamaica) as a featured superfood, highlighting its global cultural significance and versatility. Welcome to Keeping It Green with April King, the number one green culture podcast where green cuisine meets real wellness, superfoods meet freestyles, and every episode is repping green culture for a green world. I love good food. Take pleasure in life. I'm in a good mood cause I eat what's right. Green cuisine in my kitchen. Green life is my vision. To be a green generation is my mission. We could all buy stock in green commodities. This is green culture doing green properly. I like my yerba mate from yerba madre. Check Amazon for my acai. Get my chi straight with my yogi tea. Vitamin C out of the cherry. Raw vegan bling. This is April King. Yeah, we keep it green. Hey. Earth mother lovers. Hey. Happy Earth Day. Happy, happy, happy Earth Day. Flip all the motherfuckers to earth mother lovers. Flip all the motherfuckers to earth mother lovers. That's right, that's right. That's what we're doing over here. Now we're here to flip it. We're flipping the script. Flipping the script. How y'all doing? I know it's been a minute. I know it's been a minute. I had to take a little hiatus. I had to take a little hiatus. Get myself in divine alignment. Get my chi straight, you know what I'm saying? But we're back. We're back in action. We got a new season, season two of Keeping It Green with April King coming at ya. And you know, what day better than Earth Day to come back and say what's up, what's up. So today we are gonna take a trip to New Evergreen. If you haven't been there with us before, I'm excited for you to jump on the green train. We're also gonna talk a little bit about how to be green on the go. We got our superfood superstar. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Hibiscus is in the building. Hibiscus, you may know her as Bissap. You may know her as Jamaica. Bissap is in the building. Hibiscus is here. And of course we're gonna be talking about all the good things. So stay tuned. Oh yeah, we're back baby, season two. What's up y'all? Let's talk about being green on the go. I mean, in honor of Earth Day, in honor of flipping all the motherfuckers to earth mother lovers. How's your green going? What's up in your green life? You know, motherhood has given me some extra pointers on how to be green on the go with my family. I've taken things that have been part of my green lifestyle for the ages and now it is helping support having my green family life on the go. So I'm just gonna do a quick review of some of the tools and tips that help me stay green. So one thing I highly recommend is if you do drive, put a cooler in your trunk. I have a huge Igloo cooler in my trunk with my reusable shopping bags. And having that cooler in my trunk, it lets me stay green wherever I'm going. If I need to pick up some extra groceries while I'm out and about, I know I can keep them chilled. If I need to take food with me for the day, I know everything's staying fresh in my cooler, you know, that's what's up. I also, I gotta shout out to Hydro Flask. I love this company. I love their products. I have some Hydro Flask thermoses for my smoothies, for my homemade ginger stevia lemonade. I have some of their smaller containers that I use to put like mac and cheese for my son, some maybe egg salad, potato salad, fresh strawberries, you know, and have my snacks with me for the day. So these are some of the things that I love to use. I pack reusable straws and utensils for my son in our go bag. We have, I love Trader Joe's, you know. I am part Trader Joe's-ian. My family and I, we are Trader Joe's-ian. And I love the little lunch bag totes they have. If you don't already have one, check it out the next time that they are available. I love our Trader Joe's mini tote, you know. It's insulated. We pack it up with snacks, put a couple ice packs in there, bring our yogurts, our fresh fruits, make sure to keep it packed with utensils and straws and napkins and whatever we might need. And these are some of the ways I stay green on the go. I keep emergency snacks in the car, in the go bag. I've got energy bars. I love the Micro GoMacro bars, the Mini GoMacro bars for my son carrying on the tradition of his mama eating the GoMacro bars. I love to have the dehydrated fruit snacks. I love to have some snap peas, yes, the chip kind. I love the Innofeeds from Trader Joe's. They are delicious. They have some protein. These are some of the ways I stay green on the go, you know, bring my own snacks. Try to have a protein, extra protein source with me, whether that's an energy bar or some protein powder that I can just drop in something. If you're flexitarian, you might try collagen, grass-fed collagen. Yeah, that's right, here at Keeping It Green, we are flexitarian. You can get your green flex on. Would it be amazing for the planet and everyone's bodies if we could live in a totally vegan world? Yes, yes it would be amazing. I also support the flex lifestyle. I support the vegetarian lifestyle, the pescatarian lifestyle. I have not touched meat for over 25 years now, but if you do eat meat, make sure that it is grass-fed, that it's coming from a source that you know, that you trust, that you can be certain about the quality of the ingredients in the food that you're putting in your body and serving your family. So those are some of the ways to stay green on the go. Also, I want to encourage you, know where is your green on the go spot that you can run in and grab something if you didn't pack things when you're heading out of the house. I am so blessed to live in Berkeley, California. I can stop at the Berkeley Bowl. I can stop at Trader Joe's. I can stop in at Butcher's Son. I can run into a Sprouts. I know which corner stores and convenience stores carry my kombucha. You know, have it already planned in your mind. How are you staying green? You can know where you can go grab a smoothie on the go, grab a kombucha, grab a green tea. Where do they have your favorite energy bars or pre-made meals and snacks that you can just get whenever you need and keep living your good green life. You are an earth mother lover who's flipping it. An earth mother lover who's flipping it. Are you with it? All right, well, I think we have a superstar here today. Is that right? We do, we do have a superstar. She's here. Give it up for our superfood superstar, Hibiscus. Oh yeah, Hibiscus, she is here. She is coming down the runway in Senegal known as Bissap, served hot or cold, especially delicious with ginger or mint. She is also making waves for the ages in Nigeria where she's called Zobo, often infused with pineapple, cloves, and ginger. And she's there for the celebrations. She makes her way around the globe from Ghana to Egypt to Mexico and Latin America where she is known as Jamaica. Absolutely delicious. She flaunts her things in the Caribbean. She's used in. Oral drinks, especially during holidays and gatherings. She's global. She's diasporic. She's celebratory. She is sacred in everyday life. Hibiscus. Mmm. Now, why do you want hibiscus in your body, earth mother lover? Well, she has been shown to help lower blood pressure, support cardiovascular health, even improve cholesterol balance. This is not just her hype, okay? She's been clinically studied. This has been proven. She is rich in anthocyanins, the same antioxidants that give berries their deep color. She's loaded, loaded with vitamin C, flavonoids, and polyphenols. Oh yeah, she helps fight oxidative stress and inflammation in the body. Hibiscus, hibiscus, hibiscus might be my mistress. Can I kiss this? Oh, what is this? Mmm, hibiscus, yay. You know, I got to share with y'all. My husband is from Senegal and he is serious about his bissap. And I have absolutely tasted delicious bissap and hibiscus and Jamaican drinks before, but I never really had it part of like my daily life until my husband arrived here in the States. And I got to say, I, I'm about it. It is so rich and delicious. Sometimes it almost tastes creamy. It has such a deep profile of flavor. You know, you can just, you can just get into it. Uh, he makes me hibiscus tea with ginger, sometimes lemon, maybe some stevia, maybe a splash of honey. And sometimes she doesn't need anything to sweeten her up at all because she is just like that, okay? And I got to say, I'm here for the hibiscus journey. I am excited to try new hibiscus recipes and see all the ways that she can be in my life. So I encourage you to check her out because she is naturally caffeine-free, refreshing, electrolyte friendly, all the things. Um, she's even been known to support digestion, reduce bloating, and support liver function. I mean, come on. Come on. Bissap! Hibiscus in the house! She's our superfood superstar. Hibiscus, hibiscus. Oh yeah. She's delicious. Mmm. You know, I'm feeling like relaxing. I would like to go on a trip. April, can you take me to New Evergreen? Absolutely. Let's go on a journey. Wherever you are, take a moment to just breathe deeply. Take a deep breath in. And a deep breath out. If you're not operating a vehicle, go ahead, close your eyes. Relax. If you are driving or riding a bike, you can just listen and relax while we go on this trip together. But if you're able to close your eyes and go deeper, we invite you. Let all the tension out of your shoulders. Let your shoulders drop down. Feel a wave of relaxation and calm moving over your face, from the top of your head. Relax your jaw. Take deep, deep breaths. Filling up your chest, your belly. Breathing in that relaxation all the way down to your toes. Take a trip with me. We are now entering the world of New Evergreen. The air is warm and alive. It smells like orange blossoms, hibiscus, hyacinth, and rain that knows it's needed. The sky is crystal clear with beautiful clouds, rains of sunshine, rays of sunshine passing through. You see a city that has partnered with nature. Skyscrapers are wrapped in gardens. Rooftops are overflowing with fruit. Vines are holding buildings like they're gently being hugged by the earth. People move differently here. Dressed in beautiful linens and natural materials. There's no rushing, no frantic energy. Here we just flow. Here we just flow. Mmm. We've got some good news from the New Evergreen Global Broadcast. We did it, everyone! The earth is thriving! Yes, we did it! Everyone on earth has access to all of the clean air, delicious, nutritious, organic, non-GMO food, and healthcare. Well-being, everyone has access to the infinite source of well-being. We did it, everyone! The earth is thriving! Global rewilding efforts have increased forest coverage by 30%. Deserts are now blooming into solar green cities. Even Mother Earth herself released a statement that simply said, "I love what you've done with the place." Mmm. The bees, the butterflies, the hummingbirds have protected luxury habitats. Everything is thriving. Everything is well. The soda industry officially has rebranded into botanical beverages. The top global drinks are bissap, ginger, tamarind, mint, and baobab. Plastic bottles are now museum artifacts labeled "early industrial hydration era". Traffic jams are classified as ancient mythology. Solar transit pods have replaced cars in most cities. Road rage archived. Buildings now produce more energy than they consume. Skylines are vertical gardens. Real estate listings now include sunlight exposure, herb yield, and bee friendliness score. Fast fashion has collapsed because the biggest flex in New Evergreen is, "I've had this for 10 years and it still loves me." Urban farming supplies nearly half of city food. Children learn gardening before algebra. Farmers are cultural icons. Landfills are being converted into parks. The four-day work week is now a global standard. Burnout is something historians study with concern. Meetings are held while walking under trees. Productivity is measured in clarity, not exhaustion. Doctors prescribe sunlight, movement, connection, and nature immersion. All covered by insurance. We are living our best lives. In New Evergreen. Congratulations, Earth Mother Lovers. We did it! Wow. We have returned to New Evergreen. Earth Mother Lovers. Yes, Earth Mother Lovers. Wow. Wow. You know, I have one question I really wanted to ask today. What the f*** is beta carotene? Like, what is it? You know, that's a great question. Let's talk about it. Let's talk about it. What the f*** is beta carotene? You know, it's a plant pigment that gives fruits and vegetables their color, the orange, yellow, and sometimes deep green colors. So you find it in mangoes, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, carrots, and even spinach. And here's where it gets cool. Your body actually converts beta carotene into vitamin A, but only as much as you need. And it helps with your skin health, your eyesight, your immune system support, and your cell growth and repair. So yes, carrots can literally help you regenerate and see like an upgraded human. And why it matters, just think of it like plant sunlight in food form. And a fun fact, you can't actually overdose easily on beta carotene, but if you eat a lot of it, like if you're obsessed with carrot juice or something, your skin can turn slightly orange. So it's not harmful. It will just, um, you know, give you a certain glow if that's what you go for. Uh, that is what it is. Now you know. That's what the f*** beta carotene is. Cool. Now I know. Thank you. Wow. I really missed everyone. I missed you all. So happy to be back here at the public station in New Evergreen with everybody. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. We're back. We're back in action. This has been a wonderful way to celebrate Earth Day. And you know, Earth Day really is every day. It's every day. We got to do the shoutouts. We got to do the shoutouts. Shoutouts to Trader Joe's. Shoutouts to everyone out there like me and my fam keeping it Trader Joe's-ing. Shoutouts to Berkeley Bowl, to Hydro Flask. Um, shoutouts to Go Macro, we love your bars. And shoutout to Earth. Shoutout to Mother Earth and all the Earth Mother Lovers out there. We love you. We love you so much. Oh, feels like, feels like being home. Feels like everything is right with the world. Yeah, this is, this is my happy place, fam. I'm so happy to share it with y'all. Please stay connected, keep in touch, hit me on the socials. You got a product, got a question about, you need to know about something, you need to know what the f*** something is, let me know. I'm gonna, I'm gonna put it out there. We're gonna talk about it. We're gonna get into it. We're gonna dive deep. And we're gonna keep taking trips to New Evergreen. 'Cause you know what I am? I am militantly positive and I invite you to take this break in your day, in the wild world that we live in, and stand in militant positivity for yourself, for Mother Earth. Flip all the motherfuckers to Earth Mother Lovers. Yeah. I'm April King and I'll see you next time.
