April King’s “Keeping it Green” podcast explores holistic living and detoxing. She advocates for gentle, daily support of the body’s natural cleansing processes rather than harsh cleanses, suggesting methods like green smoothies, fasting, and saunas. A key focus is sea moss (Irish moss), a red algae rich in 92 essential minerals that supports thyroid health, immunity, and digestion. While noting its strong ocean flavor, she recommends mixing it with other superfoods. April emphasizes this is traditional wisdom, not just a trend, but reminds listeners she isn’t a doctor and to consult professionals before changing diets. Welcome to Keeping it Green with April King, the number one green culture podcast where green cuisine meets real wellness, superfoods meet freestyles, and every episode is repping green culture for a green world. I'm your host, April King, mama, artist, vegetarian food alchemist, and your ultimate green lifestyle guide. This isn't just a podcast, it's a movement. We're talking truth, taste, and transformation. This is green innovation. And yes, we've got an original soundtrack curated just for you. Are you ready to live your best green life? Let's go. I play the green game cause I'm a green girl. Keep track of green trends cause it's a green world. Keep making green friends so that my green grows. My green never ends. I'm in the green zone. I love good food. Take pleasure in life. I'm in a good mood cause I eat what's right. Green cuisine in my kitchen. Green life is my vision. To be a green generation is my mission. We could all buy stock in green commodities. This is green culture doing green properly. I like my yerba mate from Yerba Madre. Check Amazon for my acai. Get my chi straight with my yogi tea. Vitamin C after over the cherry. Raw vegan bling. This is April King. Yeah, we keep it green. Hey. Welcome back, earth mother lovers. You are listening to Keeping it Green with April King, and this is the Holistic Hustle, part two. Why is it the holistic hustle? Because if you're about that holistic life, then you are a hustler. You are out here going to different stores. You are keeping superfood in your bag. You are detoxing. You are staying up with the trends and reading the labels and what the newest superfoods are. You are a holistic hustler. I'm here to help you. I'm here to help you get your holistic hustle on. All right? So let's get into it. Let's talk detox. Now, listen, I'm not talking about some crash cleanse or a trendy starvation tea that's gonna have you running to the bathroom and like regretting your life. No. I'm talking about real detoxing, the kind that honors your body, supports your organs, and helps you stay clear, glowing, and energized long term. So, what is detoxing? Detoxing is simply about giving the body a break. It's letting your liver, kidneys, digestive system, and lymph do what they are naturally designed to do, but with a little support, a little intention, and a lot less junk in the way. So, think of it like this. Your body is a full-time housekeeper, and detoxing is when you stop trashing the place, let it catch up on that deep cleaning. All right? Now, there's lots of different types of detoxing, from extreme or long-term to everyday. You know, there's folks that like to go on juice cleanses, doing a three-day, a seven-day, a 30-day juice cleanse. You could start even just by adding one fresh green juice to your daily routine. There's people that like intermittent fasting or long-term fasting or, you know, gently easing your way in and out of different types of cleanses. But what I want to say, here's my little PSA. Whatever type of cleanse you're doing, I recommend start gradual. Because if you dive in too fast, you can shock your system and trigger detox symptoms like headaches, nausea, irritability, fatigue. And it's not a punishment, but it is your body just releasing what no longer serves you. Now, you can do that a little bit at a time with some things that help the process be nicer, feel nicer, or you can flush your system all at once and get those wild detox effects. So, that's one of the reasons I'm a big fan of daily detoxing, you know, combined with some deeper cleanses throughout the year. Because when you do it daily, you can still nourish yourself. You can detox with smoothies, teas, tinctures, baths, breath work. I mean, why stop at food frequencies? But, you know, some days it might look like a green smoothie that's got moringa, maca, vitamineral greens, ginger, coconut water. Other days you might be, you know, doing a liver cleanse or a kidney cleanse or a lung support cleanse. There's so many different ways that you can choose to do a detox and give your body the rest it needs to do its divine work. And you don't have to choose just one way. You can do it with whole foods, with superfood powders, with capsules, soup, ritual rest. You know, it's about what supports you. Sacred bath, sauna, spa time, vacation. You know, for me, detoxing, it's about building immunity and resilience every day. Because we live in a world where pretty much no matter where you're at or what your lifestyle is, there's gonna be something in the air, from your electronics, from your water sources, from just being here on this earth. Even if you're eating as clean as possible and doing all the things, we can take in toxins. We're gonna detox. So, we're gonna be talking about some ways you can do that today. I've got some great superfoods to share with you and one of my favorite smoothies. And we're also gonna, we're gonna dream green today. I can't wait to dream green with you. So, see you all on the other side. Okay, okay, okay. What the fuck is sea moss? I mean, like, what is it? Sea moss? That is such a good question. All right, let's talk about this wellness baddie, sea moss, also known as Irish moss. Sea moss is a type of red algae that grows on the rocky coasts of the Atlantic. It grows in places like the Caribbean, Ireland, even off the east coast of the US. And it's been used for centuries in traditional cultures for everything from healing wounds to nourishing the body after illness. Now, here is why people are going wild for it. Sea moss contains 92 of the 102 essential minerals your body needs. That's right. It's like a ocean-grown miraculous multivitamin. It's rich in iodine, which supports thyroid health. It's got iron for energy and blood support, magnesium, calcium, zinc, potassium, everything your cells are craving. Plus, antiviral, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory. People use it to support immune health, digestion, mucus reduction, thyroid function, skin glow, and even libido. You can get it in gel form, capsules, powder, or even blended into drinks and gummies. I'm gonna be real with you, okay? You take it on its own, it's got, it's got a ocean funk to it, okay? So people like to mix it in smoothies, juices, teas, stews, put their own spices and flavors, you know, to get that goodness in it. So I like to combine it with other superfoods to balance out the taste and boost the benefits. And let's be clear, this is not just some new superfood trend that just popped up. It's a traditional Caribbean and African diasporic medicine that has been part of ancestral healing for generations. The trend might be new, but the wisdom is ancient. So whether you make your own sea moss gel at home or you buy it pre-prepped, just make sure it's wild harvested, clean, and preferably unsweetened or unflavored if you're using it for healing. And in short, sea moss is that mineral-rich, immune-loving, mucus-busting ocean realness. And if you haven't tried it yet, this might be your sign to dip a toe in the tide. And while we're talking about healing and wellness, I just want to remind y'all that I am not a doctor or a nutritionist. I am just a girl on a green journey sharing what I love and what you might love. Please check with your doctor, your healthcare professional, for any changes to your diet, adding new supplements, et cetera, et cetera. And always remember, you, you, you, you, you are the ruler of your body. You get to make the decision. So now you know. That's what the fuck T-Moss says. Take me on a little dream green voyage. I want to dream green. Mmm, all right, let's dream green. Earth Mother lovers, let's take a breath together. Wherever you are, drop in with me. Take a deep inhale. Slow, sacred, real. Unclench your jaw, let your shoulders drop, soften your belly. Now, if you can, close your eyes and open your mind's eye. You have entered the Green Utopia. Greentopia. It's not a dream. This is the future calling your spirit home. The sun is alive with golden light, wrapping around you like honey. You're walking, maybe floating, through a city that pulses with green life. There are glowing fruit trees on every corner, pomegranate petals rain down like confetti, lemongrass growing in the cracks in the sidewalk. The buildings are covered in edible gardens, climbing vines, solar crystal windows that shimmer in blues and golds. The air smells like basil, honeysuckle, joy. People dance in the streets. There's drummers on rooftops, kids laughing as butterflies chase them through kale forests in the schoolyard. Every surface hums with beauty and intelligence. Every soul glows with energy and ease. And you? You feel phenomenal. Your knees feel great. Your skin is radiant. Your breath is easy. No need for caffeine, your spirit feels like it's been kissed by the earth itself. You feel alive, like your body is a sacred temple made of rhythm, light, and sacred plant goodness. You pass a local cafe called Green on the Go. It's solar powered, community owned. The menu is wild and divine. They've got soul salads, medicinal smoothies, healing wraps with turmeric, tahini, food that feeds your body and your mission. You sip something purple and sparkling. You laugh. You look up at the digital billboard and it says, "Global carbon emissions dropped 5% again. Ocean regeneration ahead of schedule. The green economy just hired two million more artists, gardeners, healers, and builders." You see fleets of gliding windships, a dancer teaching yoga on a balcony made of hempcrete and jasmine. You see your people thriving. Everywhere you look, life is not just surviving, it's thriving in wild, unexpected ways. And you? You're not hustling. You're not burned out. You're in rhythm. You're nourished. You're legendary. You live in a future ancestors are weeping to see. Not waiting. Vibrating. Elevating. Take a breath and feel it in your body. It's not just a dream, this is the seed. This is the vision. This is the memory of what we're meant for. Greentopia is real. And it begins inside you. You're the garden. You're the solar panel. You're the system upgrade. So go on, open your eyes, smile. Take that next sacred step like it's a drumbeat in paradise. This is dreaming green. That was trippy. I could totally see it. Dreaming green. Welcome back, welcome back. Let's get into our superfood superstar, Manuka honey. Okay, so Manuka honey is like one of the real MVPs of my immune game and my skincare game. I had heard of Manuka honey and I knew it was good for you. I had gotten sometimes Manuka honey lozenges and I knew it was expensive, but I didn't know it was straight up medicine until this one wild moment. And I do want to say shout out to Trader Joe's who has a really great Manuka honey. I hope they still have it. You know, sometimes like your favorite thing disappears from Trader Joe's and you don't know. But I hope they still have the Manuka honey. Okay, so anyways, I'm gonna tell you about my aha moment with Manuka honey. It was right before I was flying to Senegal to meet the love of my life. And I decided that I was gonna do something myself I had not done before, wax my mustache. You know, a lot of people have to do this, a lot of ladies have to wax their mustache. So I was trying to be all smooth and cute, all my international goddess energy, and I like over waxed and I ripped patches of skin off of my freaking face before I was going to meet the love of my life. And I did not know what I was gonna do. Enter divine intervention. Angel from Professor Snooks saw me and was like, "Ooh, honey, what you need is Manuka honey." And I heard the name, I knew it was like fancy, I trusted her. And I went and I got the most powerful Manuka honey I could find. She's like, "The higher the UMF, the better." I didn't know what the MF she was talking about, but I was like, "Let me get this." So I used it, I dabbed it on, I kept my face like slightly, you know, drenched in honey in the chillest way possible. And it saved my face. Like, I don't have crazy scars. Like Manuka honey literally like saved my face. So, um, what is it really? It comes from New Zealand. It's made by bees that pollinate the native Manuka bush. And it's got this wild name of Leptospermum scoparium. Ha ha. And what makes it special is this natural compound called MGO, methylglyoxal, that gives it serious antibacterial and antimicrobial power. We're talking wound healing, skin regeneration, digestive support, immune boosting, throat soothing, and yeah, so clearly waxing emergencies should be a go-to. It's so powerful, some hospitals actually use medical grade Manuka honey to treat wounds, burns, and even surgical dressings. It's literally been studied in clinical settings and shown to speed up healing, reduce infections, and support tissue regeneration. And so like, I'm not out here, you know, rubbing hospital grade anything on my face casually, but I do keep a jar of high quality Manuka honey in my wellness stash at all times. And there's a grading system. So UMF stands for Unique Manuka Factor. And the higher the UMF or MGO rating, the more potent the honey. So like, UMF 5+ is good for like daily wellness. UMF 10 to 15+ is good for immune support. And if it's got a UMF of 20 or more, it's considered medicinal strength. And just a spoonful coats your throat, nourishes your gut, can heal your skin from the outside in. And you know, I don't use it every day, but I definitely have it around for when I need something serious. And it's not just sweet, it is smart. It's powerful, ancient bee magic in a jar. If you haven't tried it, get you some Manuka honey today. She's our superfood superstar. Okay, Earth Mother lovers, it's time for our green cuisine recipe of the week. And this one is a healing, hydrating, immune boosting blend straight from my 5D kitchen. Let me put you on to my green immunity smoothie. This is the one I make when I want to feel radiant, resilient, and ready for anything. Here's what's in it. A cup of plant milk of your choice, or switch it up with coconut water. Two tablespoons of vitamineral greens. Start slow if you're new to this one. Begin with half a teaspoon, work your way up to the two tablespoons over three to six. Two teaspoons of maca, two teaspoons cacao, one teaspoon camu camu, a tablespoon ginger powder or one ounce of fresh ginger juice or shredded fresh ginger, one teaspoon moringa, half a frozen banana or avocado, one cup of ice if you want that milkshake thickness, a splash of cinnamon and a little clove for warmth, and some stevia or honey to taste, manuka if you're feeling fancy. Now, if you want to add some protein, choose what works for you. Your favorite clean protein powder, maybe two tablespoons nut butter like cashew, almond, peanut, a handful of raw cashews or a scoop of hemp seeds. You know, whatever you feel like. Throw it all in the blender, say a little gratitude over it and sip it like a wellness spell. This smoothie keeps me nourished, energized, and glowing from the inside out. And the beauty of it is you can adapt it based on your body, your budget, and your vibe. That's green cuisine, and that is the AK Green Immunity Smoothie. Wow, I'm feeling the green vibes. Is it time for shout outs? Shout outs! Yeah, before we wrap, I want to give huge shout outs to all the wellness warriors, the green geniuses, and the brands that help me stay supported and sacred in this holistic hustle.
