Die Ahnen - Marcus König

"Die Ahnen - Marcus König" is the fourth book in the Ahnen series by Gustav Freytag. The story is set in the time of Martin Luther, starting in 1519 in the city of Thorn. The main character, Marcus König, is a respected Patrician and member of the Artushof. The city of Thorn had gained independence from the rule of the Teutonic Order in 1454 and had since been under the Polish king's jurisdiction. However, the Polish attempt to integrate the remaining Teutonic state led to a war between King Sigismund I and the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order. "Die Ahnen - Marcus König" retells the story of this historic conflict and the role played by Marcus König in it.
