The Daily Devotion for February 2nd, 2024 is about not worrying about our basic needs. The passage from Matthew chapter 6 reminds us that God takes care of the birds and flowers, so we should trust that He will provide for us too. We shouldn't worry about what to eat, drink, or wear because God knows our needs. Instead, we should focus on seeking God's kingdom and righteousness. Planning for tomorrow is important, but worrying about it is a waste of time. Trusting in God and living one day at a time helps us avoid being consumed by worry. Welcome to Christchurch's Daily Devotion for February 2nd, 2024. Today we will be reading from Matthew chapter 6 verses 25 through 34. Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body. What you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air. They do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you, by worrying, add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow? They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothed the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow, is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, What shall we eat? Or what shall we drink? Or what shall we wear? For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. One of the statements in the Lord's Prayer is, Give us this day our daily bread. The line relates to the teachings from Jesus in today's passage. God will provide all our daily needs. Planning for tomorrow is time well spent, especially if following God's guidance. Worrying about tomorrow is time wasted. Sometimes it is difficult to tell the difference. Worry leads to us being consumed by fear, and it is hard to trust God. But this is not what God wants for us. He wants us to seek him, which means to turn to God for help, to fill our thoughts with his desires, and to serve and obey him. Don't let worries about today and or tomorrow affect your relationship with God. Trust God. The same God who created life in you can be trusted with the details of your life. Remember that God does not ignore those who depend on him. Living one day at a time keeps us from being consumed with worry. Your personal worship option today is, What consumes your thoughts? Share those thoughts with God. When worry invades your mind, stop, talk to God. Then remind yourself God will provide for this day.
