This seventeenth episode on A Step of Faith is titled Start With Who You Have. My name is Greg Alabi, and I'm inviting you to come let us study the Bible together. One common mistake that some of us make is that we take people for granted. We do not value people who are around us, nor do we know the value that they could likely bring to the table. We dismiss some of them as if they are no good or no use. But hear me, God brings people to cross our path for a reason. Now that you have decided to take a step of faith, then people start showing up. People around you start giving you ideas. Things start taking shape little by little. You see things working out. You start seeing possibilities. People are willing to assist you in one way or another. Hear me, that is how God works. My advice? To take a step of faith to accomplish anything significant, involve the people around you. Start with them. Ask them questions. Ask for assistance. Delegate assignments to them. Build a team around them. Use your team to grow your network. It's your network that will connect you, bring you leverage, and give you things that money can't buy. They could even bring in benevolence, charity, and connect you to relevant people that you probably would never have met. Do not wait until you find the best hands before you take that step of faith. Even the immortal God is a true mortal man. In the Bible, when Samson became blind, he requested a little boy that was by his side to lead him to hold onto the pillars. It was the housemaid of Naaman's wife that had valuable information that eventually led to the healing of Naaman's leprosy. It was a young boy in a crowd that was holding five loaves and two fishes that Jesus needed to feed the multitude. Moses started off with his own older brother and sister, Aaron and Miriam. His own Naomi started her life all over again with the only person around her, Ruth. Remember Nehemiah? He built the walls of Jerusalem with everyday people, ordinary people around him. My point? Value those around you. Instead of waiting forever until the most talented, gifted, rich men, able-bodied men show up to help you out, let's start with the people we currently have. Let's not give excuses like that impotent man in John chapter 5 verse 7 who said to Jesus, I have no man to help me to get me inside the pool. Now let's learn some valuable lessons from Jesus himself. First lesson here is in Acts chapter 4 verse 13. When they saw the boldness of Peter and John they perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men. They marveled and took knowledge of them that they had been with Jesus. The Good News Bible says they were ordinary men with no education. The lesson? This was the generation that produced men like Luke who was a medical doctor, Zenos and Paul who were lawyers. Yet Jesus worked with fishermen who were unlearned and ignorant. My point? When you want to take a step of faith, start with who you have. Second lesson is in John chapter 1 verse 40 to 42. Andrew, he first founded his own brother Simon Peter and he brought him to Jesus. The lesson? Inviting and involving family members could be a good idea. Involve your spouse, your children, your parents and those around you. At least get started. Third lesson is in Matthew chapter 9, I think it's in verse 9. Jesus called Matthew who was a custom officer and tax collector and possibly a Levite to join his team of Peter who was a fisherman. Now the Levites are supposed to be in the temple serving God but he is now working for the Roman government collecting taxes and custom duties from his fellow Israelites for their enemy nation. Jesus brought Matthew into his team to join Peter, Andrew and other fishermen. The lesson? Now hear this. Let us look beyond our differences and focus on a common goal to do something noble. To take a step of faith and achieve anything significant in life let us learn to walk together. Let us learn to build a team, look beyond our differences. Let us look beyond our shortfalls. Let us learn to walk together with the people that God brings into our lives. They came for a reason. Even if it is for a season start with who you have. Let us pray. Father we thank you for the lessons we are learning. We ask that Lord you open our eyes to see the value in the people around us. In Jesus name. Amen.
