After the Divorce

"After the Divorce" by Grazia Deledda is a story about Giovanna and Costantino Ledda, a couple living happily with their child in a Sardinian village, until Costantino is wrongly convicted of murder. With no means of support, Giovanna is forced to divorce him and marry Brontu Dejas, a wealthy but abusive man who had always lusted after her. This leads to a life of slavery for Giovanna, who is also ridiculed by the villagers for having two husbands.
