CB Pastor & the Prophet discuss X-Factor 147 & evaluate it by Christian values & genre likability.
The main idea of this information is that the Convict Pastor and the Prophet are hosting a podcast and YouTube show called "Comic Book Pastors." They aim to connect the worlds of comic books and Christianity by discussing comics with Christian undertones. The Convict Pastor has had experience in the comic book world and wants to make it more Christian-friendly. They discuss X-Factor issue 147, which contains Christian imagery and undertones. The Prophet shares his thoughts on the comic and highlights the presence of Christian symbolism throughout the pages. Welcome to our first ever podcast and YouTube extravaganza. I am your host, the Convict Pastor, and with me, we have the Prophet. So sorry, I cut him off. He's a big talker, as you'll see. I just wanted to introduce ourselves. We go to a church and we are both comic collectors. I am a very avid comic collector. He is a comic book collecting wannabe. I would say reader. There we go. Both go to church together, and I am an ordained pastor, and just wanting to try to connect the comic book world with the Christian world, or at least let one another know about each other better. So here we are today, and that's the whole point of comic book pastors, trying to connect the two worlds together so they have a better understanding of one another. Now I have had a lot of experience in the comic book world, and the comic book world is not a very Christian-friendly place, so I just wanted to see what I could do to help with that. This all started out from a conference that I went to, Alistair Beck Basics Conference, quite a few years back, and we were talking about comic books, and Alistair, there's also a few other people there, one of them being Sinclair Ferguson. They really didn't have an answer on how to help the generations today understand comics along with biblical truths, and how to work with that. So I talked to numerous people who had concerns also, and this is where it all started, but it's taken me probably around seven years to get to this point. So I am blessed to have the prophet here with me. He's going to be my sidekick in this, or my helper, my partner, in understanding how to do this. So today, we're going to be going over X-Factor, issue 147, with the cover of Shard on the cover. Now, Shard is not a typical character that people would know very much of. He's actually Bishop's, which a lot of people know who Bishop is of the X-Men, it's his little sister. This is actually a photon, like a computer-generated character with her personality, kind of like if you watch the Netflix upload, kind of that, but on Earth, not just in a computer. But in this book, the reason I picked this is I wanted to see how you can see Christianity within the book in a good story. Now, the artist in here is Mike Miller. Mike Miller has had some controversy. Mike Miller has controversy because he has been vocal about his faith. In this book, you will see numerous pages to where he is showing some type of Christian undertone within it. And I just wanted to kind of talk through this with him. So, prophet, what was your first thoughts? Well, I would say I do enjoy X-Men comics. So X-Factor is a team of younger X-Men. They're a team of just different people that are mutants. X-Factor made a lot of changes through its title. This is towards the end. I think they had like 150 issues, I think. So this is towards the end of it. But right now, they're basically, at this point, a group of vigilante mutants trying to do Xavier's dream, but not quite as extreme as Magneto, but with more aggressive attitudes than Xavier's. So that's the idea of the team. Well, I think reading through this book, there is some pretty obvious Christian imagery in the first few pages. Kids running through a subway train, and there's graffiti on the subway, and there's a cross, obviously. Yeah, there's another one over here where it actually says, I think it says Jesus or something like that on one of these spots I saw. I'll go through it later, but every, almost every page has something in there that's really neat to me. The one that isn't maybe quite as, well, for a Christian, I think it may be a lot obvious, but for a non-Christian, maybe not so much. Let's see here. There's where the one I was talking about. Right here, it says, there it is. Oh, wait, no. It says Jesus. I think I know what you're talking about. Something about Jesus on the wall there. That on page, on just the fourth page, there's a shard. Yeah, a shard is trying to help this kid that's getting chased by somebody. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
