The writer Lénoa de Ménoudané was willing to do anything to join the expedition of botanist Paul Gramard called L'Espalvare. In 1839, she embarked with her husband from Les Havres. She became the first woman to cross the Arctic Circle, and her journey was documented in nine letters published in 1854. La scrittrice della maturca, Lénoa de Ménoudané, disposta a tutto per perseguire la spedizione L'Espalvare del botanico Paul Gramard, nel 1839 si imbarcò a Les Havres insieme al marito. Lei sarà la prima donna a oltrepassare il circolo polare artico e il suo viaggio fu raccontato in nove lettere pubblicate nel 1854.
