The speaker wants to simplify the book of Revelation, comparing it to John 3.16. They believe that the book is often misunderstood and treated as difficult to understand. They emphasize that the book is meant to be a unveiling or revealing of something, just as lifting a curtain reveals what is behind it. They criticize the tendency to overcomplicate the interpretation of the book and encourage a straightforward understanding. They mention that the book starts with a description of Christ in the midst of seven golden candlesticks, representing seven churches. They suggest that the book should be read as letters to these churches without unnecessary complications. Now tonight, we're going to take you through the entire book of Revelation just briefly and cover the details in a night or so later. I want the whole book to become a very simple thing for you. Just as simple as John 3.16. Won't that be wonderful? Huh? If you listen and believe, I'll do that. No kidding. Let's all turn to the first verse. First verse of Revelation. The only book outside of the book of Daniel that cannot be understood except by the Pope of Rome and a few special Protestant preachers. Hmm? Is that it? That's the way it sounds when you hear people talk about it. I just don't understand Revelation. Why? Something uncovered for you and you can't see it? What are the first two words? De-revelation. De-unveiling. Just like something, a curtain has been thrown over this table here. You don't know what in the world's under there. But want to lift the curtain? Everybody can see what it is. A light. Then you don't have to have a bad perception. Well my interpretation of that is this. And my interpretation of that is this. That's how childish and foolish we are sometimes. This is simply a lifting up of a curtain so you can see what's back of it. Don't we show you what's back of this curtain? Hmm? What's back there? Any of you see anything back of that curtain? What do you find? What's back there? What do you see? What? What kind of a table? What's the table? Who ever heard of a table? What is the spiritual meaning of a table? Give me the symbolic meaning, the figurative meaning. Let's get two or three dozen interpretations of a table and then we'll vote on which is the best one. Do you see how foolish it is? Everybody that has eyes can see back of that there's a table. And there's something written on that word to say. This do in remembrance of me. Is that what you see? Or do you see double? Or two or three dozen? If you see two or three dozen things there written. Well so much for that. That's how we treat the book of Revelation. That's how we treat the book of Daniel. That's how we treat Ezekiel. So many books. As if they're the hardest thing in the world to understand. God Almighty never dreamed that one of us would ever even attempt to understand anything about them. When he gave it to us in such simple everyday language that even the king can understand it. Children, boys and girls like these here in the front seats can understand. Now then let's go to it. Let's make it that simple. Look at verse 11. What thou seest John, write in a book. Send to the seven churches which are in Asia. Seven churches. I want you to send this book and what you write in that book. It'll read the same to every one of them alike. And I want every one of them together alike. So they won't have to knock down and drag each other out of churches every once in a while over interpretation. Now John, I've come to get you to write a book now. And I want you to sit up and take notice. I want you to put in that book what I tell you to write. No more, no less. I don't want you to scare those good saints down and stick a mug of half to death. But a lot of you are foolish as either John. Your interpretation is what you think I might mean. I mean exactly what I say and I'm going to say exactly what I mean. So put it in the book. What do you see first? Verse 12, he saw Christ in the midst of seven golden candlesticks. Clothed with a garment down on the feet. Good about the pats of the golden girdle. Having seven stars in his right hand. Standing in the midst of the seven candlesticks. Which are explained in verse 20 to be the seven churches. And the stars are explained to be the seven pastors of the seven churches. Or angels of the seven churches. You know pastors are angels? You never heard of them before? They are. There's an angel sitting right over there. Get up pastor. I want you to see what an angel is like. There are some angels out here too. The word angel in the Greek and Hebrew literally means messenger. Messenger. It could be a spirit messenger, an angelic messenger, a human messenger, a divine messenger. Anybody sent take a message as an angel. That's why I claim that right. And everybody else can do the same. At any rate we have him standing. Now that's what he said he saw. That's a very poor picture of it. But when he saw that, he fell down at his feet as dead. Down he went. If you ever want some fun sometime, get a big Bible and look up the word emotionalism. Emotionalism. That one word in the index. I'll give you every emotional experience of everybody in the entire Bible. You'll find all kinds of emotionalism. You folk like to climb poles, you better read that before you do it again. It's religious emotionalism. At any rate, John fell down at his feet and Christ had to shake him or do something. He told him anyway, get up. You can't write a book down on the ground like that. I didn't come to get you to flop before me, I came to get you to write a book for me. Get up. I am he that was dead. But behold I am alive forevermore. And have the keys of hell and of death. All right now John listen carefully. Look at verse 19 now, what he told him. What was the first thing you told him to do in writing a book? What part, what subject did he give him to write about first in verse 19? Here's the key to the whole book, just this one verse. And if we can possibly master this one verse, we've got it made. The whole book. Isn't that wonderful? Now look what he told him to write about first, what was it? Write these things which thou hast seen. You, first part of your book now John. I want you to write how you saw me here in the midst of the council. That's why we have it. Verses 12 to 17 there, 16. That's the first part of your book now John. I sure hope those good spiritual saints down in Chickamauga won't stumble over what you write. Won't worry their little heads and fret themselves too much to death and die of a heart attack. To try to understand what I want you to write about. We didn't have very much problem with this first part of his book did we? We just took it for granted since he described Christ. And he wrote about it and that was the first part of his book and the first division of his book. We just took heart and tried to get the rest of it but we run into a lot of snags. Wasn't as simple as the first chapter and the first thing. But it'll be just as simple if you'll make it that. What is the second part of his book now he's supposed to write about? Of course, same verse. What? Write these things which are. Let's see now John, did you tell them everything now correctly that I told you to write about me in the midst of? Well look it over Lord. Yeah that's okay, I was putting my okay on that. Now the next section of your book John, things which are. Not the things which are going to be or not the things that you have seen but the things which are. Now what do you mean Lord? Well what did he write about next? That's the secret of it. What did he write about next? What did he write about in his second division of his book? Wrote about some churches. Wrote seven letters. The seven local congregations of believers all located in modern Turkey. Right about where these stars are located. You take a trip over there today you can see Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamon, Styx, Tartarus, Philadelphia, Laodicea or any of these church towns. You wouldn't find the churches all that because they were too mean to continue forever. So he just said repeat or else I'll remove you. But he gave a message to every one of the seven churches located in modern Turkey. And he said in verse one of the second chapter unto the angel of the church at Ephesus write. I want you to write to that pastor now John and tell him exactly what I tell you to write. So get it straight, get it right as we go along so we won't have to repeat. So he told him, commended him for certain things and blessed them for certain things. And rebuked certain things and commanded certain things. Promised certain things to every one of these churches. Seven little verses. They were not verses in that day but they make verses today just seven little, just a small little letter. And then in verse eight unto the angel of the church of Smyrna till he had written seven letters to seven local congregations of believers. The pastor receiving the letter supposing to read it to his congregation. You can tell in a minute, in a minute or so what's in every letter. Doesn't take you long to read these little short things. All he wrote to Ephesus is verse one to seven. I thought it was just a few verses each to each of the seven churches. And I don't see why in the name of common sense we can't believe what he wrote to the churches. Like if we'd been members of those churches in that day, we could have understood it when they read the letters to us. But we make them so complicated. We make them bags of mystery. Instead of just simple little epistles or letters. How many of you know what a letter is? What is a letter? It's the communication in writing isn't it? From one person to another. That person if he's got any sense at all that wrote it, he should want to make everything clear in a letter to somebody. That fellow who received it, he should accept the letter just like the fellow who wrote it meant it. And I don't see why the two couldn't get together the first time they ever read the letter. If they ever read it together, why it would have been clear to both of them. The sender and the receiver. Why can't we make it that simple? Every one of us believing what he wrote to that church in Ephesus and don't stretch your brain any further. Just let it be that way. It tells you in plain English what's written in these churches. Why worry about it? You don't have to spiritualize, symbolize, make figurative, make spooky spiritual. You don't have to get these deep hidden meanings out of these little letters. You might have to do that with John 3.16 or some of those complicated parts of the Bible. But you certainly shouldn't have any problem with these little letters. Hmm? I haven't found anything wrong. I wrote that book over there on Revelation. I just have about five, about ten of them left. You won't get one. Five dollars. I wrote that when I was 23 years of age. I went to a Bible school when I was 18 and the professor taught us the book of Revelation. It consisted of things past, present, and future. Just like it reads there. Most every teacher tells you that. Most every book you get emphasizes the threefold division of Revelation. But I've never seen the one yet outside that one over there. That will give you the literal truth. I'm going to hold to that. Keeping each section separate from the other sections. Each division of his book from the things that are supposed to be in that division. Keep it in that division. I've never seen a one yet that ever did it. When they get over to the man child, why we will make him the historical ascension of Jesus Christ. And when we get to the woman we'll make it the church or we'll make it something else. And when we get to the antichrist or some of these other things over here. When we get to the sealed trumpets and violins and so on. We mix them all up and we buy a little tumbling machine evidently. And we just let come out what will first. And my interpretation is as good as yours. So we're satisfied. And we're not going to do that. We're going to be sensible. Take things literally as we read them. First seven little letters to one church then we forget about them. And there's some other conditions in the next letter. We're not in the first letter so we just take it where churches were a little different. As all local congregations are. Having different conditions and so on. But a letter is simply a communication and anyone who writes a letter should have sense enough to make it clear what he wants the receiver to understand. Do you think Christ was simple and sensible enough to do that? Do you think he did a good job of telling us about the conditions in each local church? Did he lie about it and mix them all up and just told us to mix them up anyway? Whether he did or not. No. You know good and well he's an intelligent person. At least half as intelligent as you are. And more so than what I am. He just told the most simple human words in these letters that could possibly be written telling exactly the conditions in each local church. And here's the problem we have made for ourselves and as long as we do it we're going to live in eternal confusion. We didn't realize that those letters were to be limited to those local churches. And that they portrayed actual conditions in seven local congregations of Christians. But, and that we get the same, we profit by the same mistakes those seven churches made. We profit by the same message that they profited by whether those local conditions are in our local church or not. We know we shouldn't do those things. Anything he forbids, either one of the letters. And we know that when he promises something in any one of the letters to the overcomer well anybody today that overcomes will be blessed likewise. All that's sensible. But we've made these letters to be seven church periods. Seven phases of church history. We've stretched these seven letters all over this whole age as if. Now for example the first church, Ephesus, that pictured the church in the first century. Then the Smyrnian letter that pictured the church in the second or third century. And so we've got them scattered all through this age as if no one should have profited by anything except the Ephesians in that first century. And when they profited by it then it came to an end. And we're not supposed to profit by that letter to Ephesus at all because that church age is over. And the big argument today is whether we're living in the Philadelphia or the Laodicean period. So that gets us all confused. We get mixed up. We're not using good intelligence at all. If we would take the 14 letters of Paul and make 14 church ages out of them. Take the seven general epistles, James the Jew, make seven more epistles out of them, or church periods. That would give us 21 periods right there, wouldn't it? No, 28. No, 21. Then I remember a very little short letter, you know, in the 15th chapter of the book of Acts. Just three or four little lines. I guess we'd make a little church, a very small church age out of that one. We'll squeeze it in somewhere. Preachers cannot seem to think about these seven letters under any other terms and periods of time and phases of church history. And they try to force this church period into a certain period, or this letter into a certain period. That's about all we've ever heard. But I didn't do that. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
